Subaru DCM Issue

DCM parasitic power drain!

2018 Subaru Forester has been diagnosed with a parasitic power drain due to DCM issues. Subaru won’t do a software update citing that updates for the 2018 no longer are being done, and my only recourse is to get a new DCM. However, there is a backlog of several months before a new DCM can be installed. Meanwhile, I have to either jump-start my car every time the battery dies, which is often, or pull the fuse (*5) for the DCM. I’ve been told that I must not remove the fuse. That makes no sense to me. Currently, I’m removing the fuse when the car engine is off, and installing it again when I am driving the car. I cannot see why this is a problem, and nobody tells me why I should not do this. Since I don’t have a problem with not having audo, I cannot see the problem here.

Engine Failure at 60,000 miles!

I have a 2013 Subaru Forrester that I love!! I have never had one problem with it. It was well maintained and in near-perfect condition inside and out. Just before Thanksgiving, the engine failed. I have had replacement quotes from $8000.00 to $14,000.00. I am 78 years old and on a fixed income. I am still without a car. I am still in shock! I have contacted Suburu Corp. and so far I have not been contacted. I do not know what to do. This was the perfect car….. I need help. 60,000 miles????

Subaru Battery Life Span Issue

Battery life span and Subaru dealership battery warranty!

I’ve owned a Subaru Levorg since 2016. I’m a first-time Subaru owner and am reasonably happy with the car. However, I have an issue with the battery lifespan which has been getting shorter and shorter over the years. Even the warranty for new replacement batteries has shortened dramatically. When I asked Subaru (Singapore), I was given a bunch of unconvincing answers including “the battery manufacturer just makes them that way now”. So now I find myself buying a new battery just after 1 1/2 years! I’ve requested for the warranty period to be as per when I bought my car back in 2016 but was told the dealership is unable to do so. I’m trying to find an email address for Subaru Japan so that I can get an explanation as to why the battery life span has dropped drastically together with the warranty period. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Known Issue with Subaru Crosstrek that Subaru does not disclose to buyers

December 15, 2023

We have a Subaru Crosstrek with less than 10K miles that has a persistent and constant noise from the dashboard that sounds like something is loose. When we took it in for service, we were told that this was a known issue and that there was no fix. Here is my conversation with the dealership – “Hello Jeremy, my mother brought in her Subaru yesterday to check a noise I always hear in the dashboard. She was told that all Subaru’s have this noise and that it is normal. Personally, that does not make any sense to me. Why would you release a model with noise like something small is loose in the dashboard? I would love to hear what your thoughts are. Thank you”. Here is the dealership’s response – ‘ spoke with your technician concerning the noise in the dash. The noise is common to the model of Subaru that your mother has. Subaru is aware of the noise, however there is no remedy available for repairs at this time. If I can be of further assistance please let me know. Thank you and have a good evening.” My question is – why would Subaru not disclose this information to potential buyers? We love this car, but the noise is annoying, to say the least, and really, no solution. Sounds like a possible class-action lawsuit.

Subaru is Overpricing for Service

Rated 1.0 out of 5
December 9, 2023

I loved Subaru and have been an enthusiastic supporter….until today. I am appalled at the exorbitant service pricing at Ocean Subaru of Fullerton. My 2020 Forrester was stalling, so I brought it in for repairs. I (mistakenly) didn’t ask for a quote at the time because I assumed they had standard prices for service and parts. They charged me over $600 to change the spark plugs and then said I needed a new battery which would cost another $650. At that point, I called another Subaru dealer. They offered to do the spark plugs for $350. Unfortunately, I already agreed to Fullerton’s price. But they are going to replace my battery for $270 (not $600). After this experience, I doubt that my next car will be a Subaru.
