Marriott International: Company Snapshot

Marriott International, founded by J. Willard and Alice Marriott in 1927, began as a modest root beer stand in Washington, D.C., and has since grown into one of the world’s most prestigious and expansive hotel conglomerates. Over nearly a century, the company transitioned from operating food service establishments to launching its inaugural hotel in 1957. Today, Marriott boasts a vast portfolio that encompasses a wide range of brands tailored to different market segments, from luxury offerings like The Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott to extended stay options such as Residence Inn. With over 7,000 properties scattered across 130+ countries and territories, Marriott International stands as a testament to visionary leadership and unyielding commitment to hospitality excellence.

Marriott International’s Place in the Hotel Arena

In the global hotel industry, Marriott International is pitted against a cadre of formidable rivals, each boasting extensive portfolios and targeting varied traveler segments. Leading competitors include Hilton Worldwide, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), Hyatt Hotels Corporation, and Accor. While Hilton’s portfolio features brands like Waldorf Astoria and DoubleTree, IHG brings to the table names such as Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn Express and Hotel Indigo. Meanwhile, Hyatt is renowned for luxury brands like Park Hyatt and boutique offerings like Andaz. Accor, with its international dominance, has an array of brands from the ultra-luxurious Sofitel to the budget-friendly Ibis. Despite the fierce competition, Marriott International continues to hold its own, constantly innovating and expanding its global footprint to maintain its esteemed position in the industry.

Brands under Marriott International

Marriott International, as one of the world’s leading hoteliers, boasts an impressive portfolio of brands that cater to a myriad of travelers’ needs and preferences. Their brand spectrum ranges from ultra-luxury properties like The Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott to more budget-friendly options like Fairfield Inn & Suites and Moxy Hotels. For those seeking extended stay options, brands like Springhill, Westin, Element, Courtyard, Residence Inn and TownePlace Suites provide homely comforts. For travelers craving unique boutique experiences, Autograph Collection and Tribute Portfolio offer distinct personalities. And then there’s the iconic flagship Marriott Hotels, which represents the company’s dedication to guest service and innovative travel solutions. With these diverse brands, and many more under its umbrella, Marriott International ensures a memorable stay for every type of traveler.

Marriott Valet Parking Overcharge

I am not happy about being overcharged for Valet parking and the lady did not ask me even if I had a car! I do not own a car and yet she charged me for that! Stealling is stealing!

I own Marriott Maui Ocean Club (2 weeks) and Timberlodge at Lake Tahoe (2 weeks). The yearly fees for Maui just went up $1000 each week per year. I understand the devastation from the Lahaina fire, I am looking at it. However, putting the total cost for new plumbing on the backs of owners by raising our dues this much in this horrid economy is unjust and unnecessary. Marriott requires all dues to be paid at the same also, which creates an economic hardship on many of us. There should have been a discussion and vote by owners, not an unrepresented deep gouge by the raising of yearly maintenance dues this much. The Maui Ocean Club is beautifully maintained, the staff awesome and we know many from our years of travel to this beautiful property. Marriott MUST reduce this $1000 per week increase and offer all owners the option of installments on our dues. Respectfully

Your restaurant Villagio at Renaissance Hotel at WGV in St Augustine is a joke–the service out of the kitchen was a nightmare and we live in the area and eat out almost every night and will NEVER come back to a place that doesn’t know how to service customers and doesn’t know the difference between a cheeseburger and a hamburger

What a joke for a business
