AutoZone Store Credit Issue

Rated 1.0 out of 5
January 28, 2024

Store credit in place of credit card refund! I bought 3 windshield blades in San Fernando CA for $42.96 using a $27.35 store credit and I paid an additional $15.61 with my credit card to cover the difference.

I had to return one of the blades in Sylmar CA since it won’t fit and I was owed a refund of $14.32. Instead of giving the amount back to my credit card, I was told that I could only get a store credit since part of my purchase was paid with store credit. I argued on the contrary but the manager insisted on the store credit.

Even after elevating the issue to their Customer Service, they still won’t refund the amount to my credit card. This doesn’t make any sense to me at all since I’m only asking for a credit card refund which is even less than the amount I paid with my card.

Is what I’m asking for unreasonable?

My young daughter away at school (Mizzou) had a dead battery (about Jan.17th 2024). I told her go to AutoZone as I have always had good service (in the Chicago area). The location she went to is 2003 W. Worley Street in Columbia, MO. Dave is the manager. They replaced her battery, but the power seemed low, so the polite worker suggested she needed a new alternator. He tried to sell her one but did not have one in stock. She called me, and believing him, I suggested she take the car to a shop. Once there they tested her alternator and told her there was nothing wrong with it, but it was the battery that was the issue. The mechanic said a new battery “Should not be that low on amperage. Battery needs to be replaced.” My daughter called AutoZone to get a new battery, but she was told they would need to test it before they would give her a new one. She called the manager said the battery was fine and suggested the shop was lying to her. She then put me on the phone, and I spoke with Dave (the store manager). He said if at any time she felt she wanted to get a new battery he would replace it since it had a three-year warranty. I said that sounded fine and I was satisfied with that answer, however he should tell his employee that he should not tell a customer an alternator is bad without checking it. I did not ask for the money back for that cost. The next day my daughter said she just didn’t feel comfortable with that battery and called to get it replaced as Dave had said he would. They ordered the battery and said it would be there in a day or two. Two days passed and she called, and they said it was in and she could come in to get it replaced. She drove the 25 minutes and when she arrived the employee said they could NOT replace it as Dave was not in and had a note on the computer saying only, he could take care of this. Trip wasted she went home and called the next day. She spoke with Dave, and he told her he changed his mind and will NOT replace her battery but will give her a refund instead. Thankfully he did do that, so she is not out any money, but he LIED to her and me. Not good service I would say to blatantly lie to customers. This is a store you do NOT want to go to unless Dave is no longer in charge.

You don’t want to work at AutoZone. I did it was Hell they intimidated, harassed me, gas light and many more crappy behaviors. I called HR a jerk came to the store and yelled at me then intimidated me. The fool asked me to sign a contract that said I would not discuss these matters with anyone.

I interviewed at your Pinckney Michigan store with your district manager Joe Ward 586-258-6346 and the store’s manager… this was last week say Tues April 28 …now Joe called me directly to come down the interview lasted about 1 hour ….then was told to get back with me in a couple of days [ say 2 days is a couple] now being a retired engineer and 30 years as a test engineer and as certified Electro-Mechanical mechanic in the automotive industry you figure I get at least a text or Email let alone a courtesy call back …wow never thought the staff at a Great company that I been buying my automotive parts from all my life would blow me off….so sad though your company was top notch….there I go thinking…

I work for the US Forest Service and was in need of some batteries for our solar system at one of our lookouts. I went to the AutoZone Store in Eureka CA. and spoke to the salesman. He said that they could order what I needed but because we are tax-exempt, he would have to call the manager. When the manager came up, she said she could not do it because she would have to create an account for the US Forest Service. I said I was okay with that, but she kept making excuses as to why she could not do it. Even the salesman said to her, “really, a $1000.00 sale?!” So, I took our business to another place. I just thought it was sad because there would have to be a little effort for the manager of the store to do, she let me just walk out of the store.
