  1. I don't think this is right. Anthro's Home Office is in Philadelphia, PA.

  4. This company does not take care of their customer in any way. Buyers beware, don't make a purchase on their website, they don't send the product to you.

    2. I ordered a necklace and an elephant charm, got a confirmation of my order, then when I got the shipping confirmation it said they shipped a peacock charm. After numerous emails, they still adamantly refuse to admit their mistake, instead insisting I ordered the peacock. They expect me to return it at my expense and order the elephant charm and have that shipped at my expense. I have sent back the confirmation email that showed my order 3 times but they won't admit their mistake. Instead of just admitting they are wrong, they would rather be an asshole over a $22 charm. I like the stuff at their stores but I won't be shopping there anymore after this.

This is the second time I've been screwed over by them ordering online. If you want to exchange something, they receive the package and it just sits there somewhere for 3 weeks while they "process" the return, whatever that means. I've never dealt with a company that has worse cutover service.

  5. I will say, I agree this company does not take care of their customers. I've been shopping at Anthropologies and Urban Outfitters since my mid- 20's in Philadelphia and their launch store in Wayne, PA. Now I live in Tampa, FL and shop with my daughter and granddaughter. Today, my 2 year old granddaughter was not allowed to use their "private bathroom" when she announced she had to pee. I was dumbfounded by the "not so trendy" snob and her inhumane treatment of this sweet child. This company has clearly taken the wrong direction with trying to entice the Urban Trendy by hiring suchs idiots... I've decided, as well as my daughter to never shop at Anthropologies again. They have lost a long time customer.

    1. You've obviously never held a service job. An employee could be fired for letting someone that is not an employee into the backroom - even to use the bathroom. Someone would not be willing to risk their job to satisfy a customer. It is quite uncommon for chain retail shops (unless they are department stores) to have public restrooms. Next time, please don't blame the employee, blame the system.

  7. Not as original as they appear. "Very 2008". As well, I am a practicing artist and I find they make massive amounts of money on the backs of other peoples creativity...It sickens me that they pretend to support the arts in order to make money. As an artist I never shop at this store.

    ReplyDelete
  8. but,,,, the artist get experience and they are being paid, and it is their choice. Yu must start somewhere....

  9. Sorry to hear all of the above. My wondering is how the suppliers of all this "unique" merchandise are treated. Does their inventory come from sweatshops or places where the artists are paid low wages? Do they exploit the young in places like indonesia, India, and Africa to bring us their poorly made clothing, from substandard materials, impractical household goods and such. Folks from my generation do not fall for their IMAGE because we value clothes and stuff that is made of good quality. Their stuff is so overpriced it is embarrassing. I would rather see the younger generation go online to purchase from stay at home moms and others who are trying to make a living by supplying beautifully handcrafted items made with love, from good materials and at a reasonable price. Etsy is a great place to start finding such lovely gifts.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I am a seller on Etsy and was seriously considering connecting with Anthropologie to sell some of my unique handcrafted bangles. After looking at their jewelry for sale I know my stuff is of great quality that's a must and fair more creative than many of the items they have for sale. I have been a stay at home mom for five years and making jewelry is a skill I've been able to focus on more now that I no longer have to go outside of the home for work each day. Although I've had positive experience shopping online at Anthropologie It does make me hesitate to attempt to connect with them after reading such poor reviews on their customer service.

  12. I use to stop in there fairly often and was a good customer....until one day whenhe man at the counter at an Anthropologie store dropped my driver's license as he was handing it back to me after I made my purchase, it slipped between the register and desk. The store was closing and I insisted he try to get it out for me and I refused to leave without it.The man, manager H. Holloway had words with me and then actually called 911.
I left in fear, not wanting this to escalate with Police and was forced to go the DMV the next week and get a new license.I am barred me from entering this nasty store on 3rd ave. and 70th street in NYC and was told I was trespassing the next time I entered by a big hulk of a woman who meant business. Question, how does this overpriced, unkind store stay in business? Never going back....not worth the aggravation.

  13. WARNING!!! STAY AWAY FROM ANTHROPOLOGIE!!! They do not care for their customers! I ordered the ceramic Moby measuring cups online and not only was the GIFT box (not a typo) in which it was shipped and the product inside, crushed, but also the return process which I was told on two separate phone calls would only take 2-3 days has taken over a week...STILL NO SIGN OF PRODUCT!!!

I have been a loyal customer at anthropologie.com for 20 years, often spending thousands a month. When I first began shopping at anthropologie, I was informed that you may return or exchange items, including sale items, at any time after purchase. No questions asked. I admired their return policy since at the time I knew of no other stores who had a return policy in which you could return an item you purchased after 2 years as long as you still had the invoice. (now their are many stores that have the same return policy. Nordstrom and Bloomingdales to name but a few). Anthropologie does not stand by their word! And after 20 years of shopping there I am being blocked from shopping at anthropologie.com because they felt I returned too many items. I have the right to return an item if it was never worn and sat in my closet for a year. I have the right to return an item if I just plain don't like it. I have the right to return an item if it does not fit. etc. And now after 20 years I have been black listed! I ask, is this how anthropologie treats all their loyal customers after 20 years of service? I am disgusted and will never step foot in this over priced store again!

    1. Actually no you don't have a right to return a product after a year...the cost of these ridiculous and irresponsible return policies are born not by the retailer, it's the poor (and often small) middle man that wears your 'change of mind'. the same people that have to pay for raw materials before the items are even made, then pay for shipping, then wait sometimes 90 days after the goods are shipped and sold. THEN people like you think you should be able to call buyers remorse after months, or even worse give some bullshit excuse like 'it's broken or defective'. Guess what happens to that product - it often gets destroyed in field because it's too expensive for the middle man to have it shipped back so they can do anything with it. You and everyone like you are selfish and self centered and generally are just plain bad people.

  15. I HATE THESE BASTARDS. I too, have spent THOUSANDS of dollars online and at the retail stores in the past year....I go to the store and they never have my size OR what they feature online then I have to order online and pay shipping. I have spent hundreds in uneccessary shipping fees due to this. In the store, they offer to order it for me if I GO BACK TO THE STORE TO GET THE ORDER. WHO WANTS TO DO THAT? IF THEY CAN ORDER IN THE STORE WHEN THEY OBVIOUSLY DON'T HAVE MY SIZE, WHY CAN'T THEY ROUTE MY ORDER TO MY HOME? Worse, I spent considerable time complaining to the corporate office, NO RESPONSE...THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS PEOPLE I'VE SPENT and I don't usually wait for things to go on sale. Regardless, the retail clerks are RUDE, they follow me around, harassing me, so I prefer ordering online for that reason, their customer service via phone is just as awful, and forget about emailing them..you will get NO RESPONSE. They offer loyal customers NOTHING. The woman in the store offered me an Anthro card, telling me i'd get free shipping year round and other perks, I've had the card for MONTHS now, and I've seen no special offers AT ALL as a "special member." no free shipping, no breaks, no discounts, NOTHING. Then I called about this and am told that as a "special cardholder" I get free shipping TWICE A YEAR WHEN THEY ANNOUNCE THIS "EXCLUSIVE PRIVILEGE." ARE YOU F*CKING KIDDING ME ANTHROPOLOGIE? LOOK AROUND, YOU AREN'T THE ONLY GAME IN TOWN AND EVERY OTHER RETAILER OFFERS FREE SHIPPING WITH A MIN. PURCHASE. YOU OUGHTTA BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES AND AS A RESULT OF THE POOR TREATMENT AND THE CONTINUED NEGLECT TO ME AS A CUSTOMER, I AM FINISHED WITH YOU UNLESS I DECIDE TO USE YOU TO MY OWN ADVANTAGE TO GET A SALE ITEM. YOU WILL NOT SEE MANY MORE DIMES OUT OF ME. YOU CLEARLY DO WELL FOR YOURSELVES TO TREAT CUSTOMERS WHO SPEND THOUSANDS A YEAR AT YOUR RETAIL STORE LIKE CRAP. WELL, THANKS TO YOUR BEHAVIOR, I HAVE FOUND COMPARABLE WEBSITES THAT SELL BETTER QUALITY CLOTHING ANYWAY, AND THEY WILL GET MY BUSINESS.

  16. I am shocked at the treatment that my daughter has received during the last month. She was hired for a full-time position across the country from where she lived. She graduated with honors from a university with a degree in merchandising/journalism. Was hired for a visual merchandiding position. For the last month she has been trying to nail down the necessary paperwork and get the position solidified. During that time she has left countless messages for the manager who hired her; who supposedly went on vacation after she hired my daughter. There has been no communication other than to" show-up" for a Sunday shift..which she did. There was.no training, no one even knew she had been hired. She folded clothes for 8 hours. When she met with the scheduling person she was informed that full-time for this company is 32 hours. My daughter left a management position, traveled over 1800 miles and now has no idea what kind of a job she has. She mentioned that the store has more than 80 employees, no one knows each other and some work as little as 10 hours a week. How in the world can a company believe that this is a good way to treat their employees? This experienced has completely soured me on what I had always believed to be a great store. I will never shop there again and I will also make sure that everyone I come into contact with will hear of this story. I am very active in my community and hold a management position myself so I will (gladly) do a lot of damage to Anthropologie.

    1. I'm sorry to hear about your daughter's experience. I can somewhat relate. My daughter graduated from college in May 2014 and was hired as a part time sales associate. It seemed like the perfect position for her because it was local and allowed her to pursue studying for the LSAT, which she will take in December. She completed necessary paperwork etc., including enrollment for direct deposit which was done online. She received minimal training, and absolutely no orientation whatsoever. She was fond of the other sales associates and many of the managers who were all around her age, but had no idea who did what. It was very disorganized but she just went with the flow. The first pay period ended and pay day came. Money never entered her account. She was unable to speak to anyone during business hours at the store; Too busy. So she had to email the store managers. She was told that this is not uncommon; sometimes it may take a cycle before direct deposit would take effect. When she asked where her paper check was, she was told by the "manager" that the Urban stores do not give paper checks once you've signed up for direct deposit. We run an accounting firm and tried to explain to my daughter this was not true and more than likely illegal. The "don't ask" policy the managers intimate, is effective and she chose not to make waves. She waited another 2 weeks. The next pay day came. The money did not hit her account. At that point she had worked some 70 + hours. She immediately called the store and spoke with the manager who, unphased, told her it would likely take 24 hours to get information on what the problem was. This manager was going to email corporate. When my daughter explained she wasn't comfortable coming in for her 8 hour shift on that day without having some information about her payroll status, the manager went in to a rage and told her the choice wasn't hers...She had made a commitment and would be letting her teamates down... My daughter was in shock...The manager had the nerve to ask my daughter what difference one day would make. She did not get it at all. Finally, she gave my daughter the ultimatum of coming in or resigning. My daughter stammered if she could think about it and the manager said no. So she resigned over the phone. I could go on about the follow up or lack of but I won't. I do wonder: Do these people think their employees live under a rock without interaction with the outside world?? Obviosuly word gets out.
She did in fact recieve a check in the mail since. But I caution anyone who wants to work for this company to really ask alot of questions before taking the position. Someone else mentioned "secret society" to describe how these people roll and I think it is a great way to characterize the culture of folks who get hired and stay. Hope things are getting better for your daughter. I too, have told many people, mostly because it's natural for them to ask after my daughter. What am I supposed to say? I tell the truth. A shortened version, but the truth about her experience.

  18. I interviewed at one of their stores just a few months ago...the interview went very well. I had alot of retail experience and knew how to treat customers properly. After the interview, I proceeded to take their online opinion survey which would determine if the hiring process would go further, and apparently I formed a wrong "opinion" on the survey. It flagged the hiring manager not to hire me. How can you be graded on an opinion??? I was devastated because I knew I was a good fit and could help them bring back good customer service in their store, but now that I read all these comments, I don't want to work for them. It is almost like a secret society for a**holes!!

  19. you know, I've never had any bad experiences in 10+ years of shopping at Anthropologie. I've never had trouble with returns, attitudes, etc. It's not the cheapest store, but no one is holding a gun to my head forcing me to buy. They aren't obligated to carry clothes in any particular size or have items for everyone. They have a very, very focused target market, and it has worked for them. And if you have been barred from returns, I have to wonder just how many items you frivolously buy and then return. No, you aren't entitled to purchase items on a whim, have them sit in your closet for a year, and then return them for a full refund. That's not using a generous return policy--that is ABUSING a generous return policy. Anthro is a business. They need to make money. otherwise, they won't exist very long. As to artists and vendors--the rumors are that they can be challenging to work with. My advice to anyone who wants a line in Anthro is to either not sign an agreement that erodes any profit, or to do so only as a strategic marketing venture.

  20. I have shopped with Anthropologie for years, love the concept and the unique options that they have as far as clothes, home furnishings and accessories. I have visited many of their locations through out my travels and always am amazed with their visual team the stores look dynamite!
I am sad to have to write this negative review.... I have moved in the recent years but have another property which I kept so my shipping address may change more than the norm. I recently went online to purchase some items from the inaflurry sale 25% . I order a few items online and after I submitted the order I saw a pair of sneakers that I wanted to add so I called to see if the two orders could be combined.
The answer was no however they were going to wave the shipping... perfect they were on back order til the end of the month anyway. Well a few minutes later I get an email stating that the shoe order was canceled so I called. Here I talked with someone from customer service yes the sale had been canceled on the sneakers which alerted me there was an issue and also for the other order I placed online. This all took place on a Friday I was told there was an issue with my account and it would take 24/48 hours and someone would get back to me. Well today is Tuesday I sent emails...I called... I finally asked to speak to s supervisor she was able to tell me that my account ( which I find odd as if it is a credit card) was on hold due to shipping addresses.... so here is the facts it shouldn't have taken me the consumer calling and emailing to buy from this retailer to figure that out days later which now the items I wanted to purchase are no longer available I process should have been in place if Anthropologie has enough business that they can turn down sales ( literally I was unable to purchase anything for days) someone should have been able to ask me a series of security questions as to past purchases or addresses so this could have been resolved what a joke or shall I say poor training. I loose, they loose... the we are sorry well an extra 10% off... geez I think they need to rethink their service it is less than stellar

  24. Anthropologie is an overpriced store. I happen to know one jewelry maker who sells to them & they mark up the price so much higher on the high end items. If you notice around $500.00 for a bracelet that is not fake gold but "handmade." They should at the very least have the earring be gold platted backings for the price they charge. Most people can't wear earrings unless they are gold platted so they should just do that part. Then my friend who knows fabrics said they clothing made on tencel was way overpriced since tencel is super cheap. Everyone look at the type of fabric or get ripped off. They are not very smart due to the extreme greed.

  27. I have shopped at Anthro for over 20 years and have been a loyal customer. The Chula Vista store has a few very nice ladies and a whole lot of rude women working there. I decided to stop shopping at the store and now only order online (in the last month I have ordered over $700). I am so disappointed with them right now because they will not answer my emails or help me over the phone. Every time I ask for a manager they put me on hold then disconnect. I really didn't want to leave them but I might have to.

  28. Anthro needs to read the comments being left by their customers- if they do not wake up to their issues they will become obsolete as people will go elsewhere. I love their stuff and spend at least $1000 a month. They have a great return policy but no ability to manage stock as proven by many complaints when ordering on line. It seems their customer service people are not trained to deal properly with complaints of product not received and only end up making a bad situation worse. I love the product but the practices of this company may drive me away. So sad- It could have been a great company.

  29. My wife has got to be Anthropologie's most loyal customer for the past 7 years now and I'm always in there to stand in line and pay for the merchandise when she is done. Almost every.. single... week... for 7 years. Love all the employees and everything until I came across Breanna at the Grove location. She degraded me and my wife, humiliated me and made us feel like we were not even human. She is the rudest and most unprofessional sales associate I have ever came across in my life. I called and made a complain with the store managers Megan and Jess but who knows if they are actually going to discipline the girl. I hope they do because we will not go back if she is still there.

I was illegally detained & was harassed about what was in my bag as I was exiting. Went downhill in the past few years, trying to rip off customers. Business is down based on all the frequent sales & desperate scheming going on. I didn't get credited for a returned item--that is just the beginning of the saga.

  32. I would not recommend ordering online with Anthropologie. This company has issues, their processes are broken. I made a simple order and it was duplicated and my account charged twice. When I called Customer Service to have it corrected, I was told that was not possible because the order had already gone to the warehouse. This order was a gift. What company in this day and age of technology cannot correct an order, especially when their company made the error! Never again will I purchase from this joke of a company.

  33. I have been a loyal Anthropologie customer for more than 20 years. I have written letters to specific stores and Mother Anthropologie about how I love their designs, store atmosphere, and thanked them for being a part of the happy memories I have made shopping with my sister and mother. Through the years I have spent thousands of my hard-earned dollars in Anthropologie. That is not an exaggeration. But recent deplorable and in-excusable customer service has forced me to severe my relationship with Anthropologie. It took me a while to learn my lesson, but it is a deep-felt loyalty, even if it is one-sided. I have always been irritated by the slow credit Anthropologie.com issues for returns. If another retailer that starts with a "Z" can issue a credit in less than 7 days, why does Anthropologie take three weeks? But I accepted the inconvenience in the name of stylish offerings. The first serious incident was a return that wasn't credited to my account. After two months of persistent email correspondence, the credit was finally issued. If I were a shopper who didn't keep track of purchases and returns, I never would have noticed the oversight. I never received an apology for the mistake. Then I was double billed for an item. Anthropologie.com refused to remove the charge, so I disputed the charge with my credit card. Anthropologie blocked my account, so I could no longer place orders or receive back orders. I should have severed the relationship then, but I have ordered my every-day dishes from Anthropologie and the covered tureen is on backorder until September. So I had to accept the erroneous charge. Like a fool, I placed one more order which was immediately cancelled. I called customer service and explained the block must still be on my account even though I dropped the dispute weeks ago and had already called customer service to confirm the block was removed. Supposedly it was. Again I was told there was no block, but the associate didn't know why the order was cancelled. She had to send an inquiry to the order fulfillment department. Five days later, I got an email saying the block is still in place. I have submitted two email complaints to Anthroplogie.com about this issue and have never received any correspondence or apology which leads me to believe they don't read complaint correspondence and they don't care about their customers. But I guess that's the way of corporate America these days. I just hoped Anthropologie was better than that. With much sadness, I'm divorcing Anthropologie. I will spend my money with a retailer who will treat me better and show just a little appreciation for my business.

  35. The Anthro store in Natick Ma. The store manager "Courtney" is the worst, she treats her employees awful, right in front of customers, yelling and telling them they don't know what they are doing, she has a personality problem, she is always rude and disrespectful. I have witnessed her do this many times to the Apparel Manager "NiCollette" who is amazing, she is professional, always willing to help, knows the store and the concept very well. This little lady Nicollette should be respected for her work ethics and move up the ladder. Get rid of the manager "Courtney" or your store in Natick is going to go down hill. 37. I think that Anthro is crappy to their employees. My daughter applied for a part time job. Was VERY excited to get interviewed (a 2 step process) and then hired. HOWEVER, she was applying for permanent job but got hired as "seasonal" for the summer. She was told that if she performed well and wanted to stay on that she most likely could. She was also told that in the beginning she would be scheduled for 15 hours a week but could pick up shifts using the app. Well, I don't think think there was ever a week where she was scheduled for more than 7 hours. Some weeks ZERO. She was grabbing shifts like crazy (because she has bills to pay) but only was able to average 15 hours a week. She hired on with a bunch of other girls. Then later in the summer they hired even more EVEN THOUGH MANY WERE COMPLAINING ABOUT NOT GETTING ENOUGH HOURS. They scheduled her for training on the cash wrap but then kept putting it off. I tried to tell her that they were fucking her because they weren't going to keep her but she believed the managers who were saying she was doing a good job and would probably get to stay. Now she is being let go because they say she was seasonal and they are keeping the later hired people. This is a HORRIBLE WAY TO RUN A COMPANY AND A SHITTY WAY TO TREAT PEOPLE. Thanks Anthro for making my daughter's first real shop such a horrid experience. We will NEVER spend another penny in your stores. I am going to spread the word about this far and wide. I have worked retail and NEVER experienced crap like this. Also, what is with having so many flippin managers in each store. It seems there isn't ONE person that you can go to.

  38. I am a huge shopper for many years at Anthropologie but this past year I have been very disappointed in the lack of Petite clothing especially pants. I have been searching your site for Joggers in Petites and there are NONE. I started looking in the fall, spring and now summer. You continually get in new merchandise so it's not like I missed out on my sizing. You have a lot of beautiful spring/summer jogger pants BUT NOT IN PETITE SIZING. I would love if your store would insist on the designers that you purchase and buy to sell online and in store for them to make them in PETITES! I end up going else where even the huge department stores offer designer petites! I purchased three PETITE JOGGERS ELSE WHERE. SHAME ON ANTHROPOLOGIE a store known for having a huge selection in PETITES IN THE PAST OFFERING NONE IN SO MANY BEAUTIFUL STYLES BUT NO SELECTION IN PETITE JOGGERS. PETITE WOMEN WANT HIGH END AND A HUGE SELECTION IN PETITES IN EVERYTHING AND YOU DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING AT ALL IN JOGGERS!!!!!!!!!
