Three months later I got a collections phone call - that I owe over $2000. what heck. and there is no one to speak to . collections tells me to speak to corporate. corporate tells me to speak to collections....its totally crazy i'm loosing my mind.
I cry on the phone....to a deaf ear

    2. They also will not allow me to cancel. I have cancelled twice already and they told me I am lying about it. I dont even own the credit card that they are still billing. I had paid off my oustanding balance the first time they did this to me and then cancelled again and now they are trying to pull the same shit. I dont think its right that I must keep doing the same thing over and over again. Worst part is that since I dont have the credit card anymore I cant even use the protection they offer against malicious business practices like this. I plan to call News 12 and have them join me as well as someone who has had their own problems like this to fight against the injustice.

  8. My name is Nick Tarquinio and I think my member # is 450445. I have been a member for almost 3 years and joined at the Retro in Middletown, NJ. Over the past year I have been going in the morning at the new facility in Edison, NJ on Park ave. The purpose of this email is to let you know that you have a very good manager by the name of Judy at that location. Every morning she opens at 4:40am for all the regulars. I have been at 4 facilities so far and none treat the customers better than Judy does. She is the best and you should be proud of her and be sure to never lose her.

  9. I subbed two Zumba classes at Retro Fitness in Fitness and to date not only have they never paid me but the manager Vicky refuses to return my calls. I have gone to the gym 4 times on different days and there is never a manager present. I called and finally spoke to the night manager Joshua who had the nerve to tell me the gym has bigger issues to deal with and he is unable to assist me because I need to speak with Vicky. The one that is never in thr gym and refuses to return my calls. Seems like Retro treats their employees the same as their members which is horrible. I personally know more instructors they never paid as well. Shame on you Retro for all your shady business pratices. Beware of joining this gym because they have zero professionalism and will rob you blind.

  12. I am a member at the Retro Fitness in Williamsburg Brooklyn. can someone please explain why half the machines and in disrepair, the ladies locker room and bathroom smells of mildew, toilet seats are broken, lights bulbs not being replaces when they blow out. There are not wipes and paper towel available in most of the machines, and forget Sunday. If you are planning to work out on Sunday you need to bring your own wipes. The list goes on and on. Doesn't the corporation have a standard that all franchisee's need to adhere to? Was the whole Undercover Boss thing for publicity only??

  13. I completed a 1 yr membership and I stopped going. The billing continued. I was told it would not and I can't read small print so I made sure the person I signed up with confirmed the billing would end. After leaving 5 (FIVE) messages for the manager of the Ramsey NJ Retro to call me he finally did about a month after I started calling. Apparently he;s a sickly man having been in and out of the hospital during that time. He started by calling me and attacking me accusing me of claiming to call 5 times when I really didn't. He's got serious mental illness. He should not be in a customer facing position. I'm taking them to small claims court if their corporate office does not refund me and apologize for his irrational behavior.

  14. A Retro Fitness in Layton, Utah just opened last month and the new manager is very unprofessional. She is rude to the staff and when a trainer from corporate came in to help set up before opening did not say anything to her. Even when I complained about her and the owner, there was nothing done. She plays favorites with the staff and then gets confrontational with the good employees. The staff love their job, just not rhe environment. A lot of us are thinking about quitting.

  15. I go to the retro fitness in Staten island NY. I was offered a personal trainer and I was not told that it was an extra $50 a month on top of the $20 a month. i was under the impression it was $50 for the whole month I am 19 years old paying for school, they literally watched my car go up in flames in the parking lot about a week ago, and I cant afford $70 a month. they need to learn to explain themselves or get better employees.

  16. This is a terrible, deceptive gym. I thought it was only the gym on Richmond Avenue in Staten Island that was a rip off but from the postings here, obviously it is the entire corporation.
Don't even bother trying speak with their representatives at the centers since they obviously are clueless and forget about trying to e mail corporate since your e mail will be returned as undeliverable. Maybe a group legal action should be considered?

Only to go to the gym an hour later later and see the both of them drunk working!!!!! Seriously???? This is appropriate???? They are representing your company, and this is what you allow??? DISGUSTING!!!!!! It was clear, even if I hadnt seen them, that they were DRUNK!!!!!! Figures thats why the gym is going to hell! Machines broken, not being fixed, dirty....Outrageous!!!

  19. I am writing regarding the Retro Fitness location on Hope Chapel Road in Jackson, NJ. I have been a member at this location for many years and over the past three months, the hot water for the showers runs out every morning. Many of the morning members have raised the issue to Scott (owner) and Nick (manager) and have been assured that the club is in the process of repairing the problem.

This morning, Nick informed us that the club was unable to resolve the problem and that the club would not pursue any further remediation activities and that we should expect the hot water to run-out in the morning as it has over the past three months.

This is not the way to treat paying customers. My monthly fees are paid up until the end of this year and I am requesting a refund on my monthly fees in order to compensate for the lack of services.

Please call me to discuss my concerns.

  22. Hi! My friend and I come to RetroFitness after dinner. We do separate workouts. Zumba does a variety of music. Sadly, RetroFitness just wants to play the most recent music. I feel insulted, because I was born in 1985. We need both new and old music. Too many radio stations are bland. RetroFitness has poor taste in music. I like Zumba, though.

The worker refused to give me his name and claim the mananger was busy and unwilling to speak to me. I don't know who runs a proffesional company this way. What happen ever happen to the customers satisfaction? Let 's just say I will not renew my contract EVER.

  24. I have been a member since the Moorestown, NJ location opened. I recently wanted to get out of my contract!! Oh sure but it will take 60 Days!!! What? it should take 3 days tops.
The reason behind wanting to leave the gym was it's just not as clean as it should be. the bathrooms are messy, the paper towel dispensers are usually empty on the floor, it smells, the equipment is ripped. I'm not happy with it.
I'm calling the corporate office next from the reviews I'm sure that won't help.

  25. I was a member and then ended up getting the opener job at the Retro in Fort Myers, FL. At first it was okay, and I knew the manager was a jerk from the first time I met him at an even at my college where my husband and I first heard about Retro. A couple of months after I started working there, a member found my phone number off of my business page (I also own my own business), and started texting me. At first I didnt think anything of it and was polite, but didnt carry on conversations. He started sending photos from the locker room which I deleted . Weeks would go by between texts so I would forget about them until one day he sent pornographic material involving him and a female. I refused to open the tumblr link he had sent me so he sent the pics straight to my phone. I asked why he would do something like that and that I would never do anything with him. He stopped texting so I thought it was over until he asked me for a photo. I said NO. He said, why? No one will see it, I need something pretty to look at because my girlfriend broke up with me. I took these messages to the manager. The manager did nothing. He had a smirk on his face the entire time and said he could do nothing about it because I had not saved the gross pictures. Of course I didnt save them. The text asking me for something should have been enough to say something to this member on my behalf but he refused. Later he blamed me for everything that had happened and said it was my fault it had happened. I told the owner and the owner asked me if I found the guy attractive and then said I could have had a fling even though Im married with two kids. Are you kidding me? HOW RUDE. This member was homeless and very emotionally unstable so I bought mace being the opener at 4:15 in the morning by myself (he always came in very early). The manager, Tyler Dowland and the owner Mike M are just as bad as this creeper for doing nothing having a wife and daughters themselves. Retro in Fort Myers will now have the reputation of allowing perverts to remain members of the gym while the manager retaliates and fires the gym employee. Not long after this situation I had to leave on a Friday morning by 8am (I had requested this day off weeks in advance). I had to work but needed to go by 8 to make it to my school by 8:30 for appointments and then a doctors appointment after that, and still getting my husband to work by 2pm. Tyler said he would come in before 8am but he did not. He came in after 8 and when I went to clock out, he made me take the company flags out to the road. I said I really need to go but he said take them out. When I came back in I said that Joe or Tyler could have taken them out at 9 like everyone else does (I was the only one that ever took it upon myself to take them out earlier so it would be done). He said I could have taken them out earlier. I couldnt because it had been raining and then I couldnt leave the gym without a staff member with that many members in the gym. I was very late to all of my appts the rest of the day. The next day on Saturday, he had me work my whole shift. Right before I left he called me into the office and said he was not happy with how my shift had ended the day before. I simply gave him an option that would have been just as fine since he knew I had to leave before 8. He stated that he did not care what I thought about the situation. Okay. So then how am I supposed to care? So I said then I dont care how you feel about it. He said, fine, youre fired. I said Okay, got up, clocked out, got my purse and left. As I was getting my purse he said that I needed to drop the key and shirts off before I could have my last paycheck. Well, he cannot withhold hours worked and has to release my last paycheck. Its not a laughing matter but Tyler seems to think that everything is below him and especially protecting his employees which he refused to do at all costs. He would rather keep the membership of one creeper and lose every membership my family had plus other regular memberships. Talk about bad business and very bad management.

Paid auto debit for 14 months then they convieniently dont bill the filnal two months and send me a bill from collections for $156. Dopnt know where the number came from. 31. I'm going to sue Retro for everything they got. They straight lied to me and said I was under a month to month when they really locked me into a 1 year contract. That's the actions of a supervisor from Ronkonkoma's Retro. THEN my fiance who worked there for a week, was terminated by Audrie, the supervisor of West Babylon because my fiance called in sick. If I don't have a case, I'm at putting both these women out of jobs.

  33. My name is Stacie Palma and a year or so ago I was tricked while visiting the Hillsborough NJ location as I saw construction for the one in Manville where I wanted to join. They had many issues with the permits in Manville and I had no want or need to travel down 206 to go to the Hillsborough location. I called week after week and month after month and told me soon they promise and the demo is open and I can go visit the Manville location if I had issues

When I walked in the poor girl called the manager on duty who of course was not there and was advised to give me a tee shirt. I stopped paying out of frustration and I am so tired of the continued harassing calls from RI area code saying they have an important message for me

They did not care that on November 28th 2014 I was in a car accident and have been out of work since December 10th 2014 and to current and had two major back surgeries and still unable to to twist, lift, and bend and in PHYSICAL THERAPY 3 days a week

I saw your CEO on under cover boss and thought what a great man and how he helped his employees and thought if he had any idea how I was bullied in a contract that I was put into for a location that did not open a few weeks later but almost a year later and to get harassing phone calls multiple times a day and they do not care

I hope you can fix the credit and make good on this. I understand things happen but I only showed up in Hillsborough once as I had no intention of using that facility and had to use my one training within a week of signing up

I feel for all those months I should be refunded for multiple times calling and getting the run around or a courtesy cancelling my contract instead of continuous billing month after month until I changed the debit card only way I could avoid to keep on being charged for a service I could not use and would not be able to get a manager to help me

    Attn: President/CEO of Retro Fitness

RE: Cancellation of Agreement number 890610388

I phoned the Flatlands Retro Fitness facility in Brooklyn, NY today to cancel my subscription due to a health condition. Mr. Russell Knight who works at facility informed me that my condition was not a cause for cancellation of my membership. I am pretty sure that whatever credentials Mr. Knight currently have does not place him in a position to analyze the terms of my cancellation. I am sending a certified termination notice via return mail addressed to:

    Retro Fitness Flatlands
    1625 Flatbush Avenue
    Brooklyn, NY 11223

This letter is a written request to the aforementioned parties of my desire to terminate my subscription effective immediately. I am also sending a copy of this Notice to the President/CEO of the Retro Fitness Corporate office.

RE: Cancellation of Agreement number 890610388

On February 18, 2016, I hand delivered a letter to the Retro Fitness branch on Flatbush Avenue between Avenue H and Avenue I because I was relocating out of state. As of today, I am still being charged for my monthly membership and I have written and search for someone to address my issue however there no listed to contact.

In addition, I recently on 6/22 received an email about someone using my membership and I replied that my membership should have been cancelled since Feb 18, 2016. As of today, no one has replied.

These series of events are very unfortunate because prior to cancelling my membership I held this company and employees in high regards now I would not recommend anyone to join. I was skeptic about releasing my checking account info for auto-payment, again this experience only makes me further skeptical and I hope someone attempts to contact me soon to resolve this issue.

  42. I was a member back in 2013, cancelled my membership and was put in collections for $70, which I paid. It is now 2016 and I received a call from their collections agency stating that I owed them those $70. I called the gym I use to attend on a Friday, left a message for the manger in which they told me he will call me no later than Monday. A week passed and I did not receive a call, so I decided to go in person. Thankfully the manger was there, but he was not helpful AT ALL. I told him about the collections agency, so he began looking up my account and said i owed them $300 and that if id like to pay that as well as re open my membership. I then explained to him that, that was impossible because I haven't been a member in over 3 years. At this point he seemed annoyed. Now, he got the collections agency on the phone, then he put them on hold and told me to wait as he went into the back room to consult with his wife (whom i guess is a manger as well). I waited for about 10 min, he came out and said that his wife handled the issue and sent a cancellation email the week prior and that the collections agency said i didn't owe anything. ( Mind you I cancelled it in 2013) But just 10 minutes ago he was trying to get me to pay him $300 that I supposedly owed. My credit was affected. He couldn't explain to me why I am still in the system but he told me i no longer owe anything. I asked him if i'd be put into collections for that $300 that the system said i owed, and he couldn't even answer that, even after telling me I no longer owed anything. He than told me that he was tired of repeating himself. Two weeks later, I received a letter stating for me to pay a one time payment of $50 to be forgiven for my past collection which also contained a hand written post it which said " We would like to see you back at retro. -Steven" Steven was the manger who was rude and not so helpful that day. This company is beyond unprofessional. I tried contacting corporate but no one is ever available. And reading the rest of these shows how much of a scam this corporation is and that they are attempting to collect money from old members by putting them into collections. This was the facility in Bay shore, New York but I see that they are not the only problem.

  43. I would like to have my member ship Canceled with Retro Fitness, I've attended the gym in 2014 & after that I haven't been going, due my busy schedule. I went into the gym sometime in 2015 to cancel my membership and was told that I can't cancel it. I don't think it's fear that we should have to pay for a membership that is not being used. I attended the Brooklyn location 81 E. 98th Street. The gym is being run by individual that are young and unprofessional. I went to the gym one day in 2016 and a member had her son in the ladies locker room. He had to be 8 or older, how did this child get in the gym and why is he in the ladies locker room? Who authorized this. I would like to cancel my membership, you can check my attendance record I've been paying for 2+ years and only attended maybe about 9 months out of the 2 years. Something needs to be done.

I have reached out several times in different ways and never got one response back. I am very disappointed with the way I have been treated and would honestly like a refund of my money as it has been alot to be taken out when I am not using any of the services.

As I gathered my children to walk over there the two staff members were making out. This has totally turned me off with Retro Fitness. These are two adults working while a couple booths from children's area. Totally unacceptable. After I took a picture of the two working just in case the Corporation wanted to know who it was.

These are two adults working while a couple booths from children's area. Totally unacceptable. After I took a picture of the two working just in case the Corporation wanted to know who it was.
