  1. Tim Ryan Fox 4 Dallas-Fort Worth,
I am sending you a conversation that I am having with Payless Car Rental. I believe that they over charged me $231.59. Which is the amount for their Collision Ins. which I told the agent I did not want. If you look at the pdf file that they sent me you will see that I did indeed initial the spot that was indicated, in bold letters it says Collision Damage Wavier (ccw). After I told agent that I did not want the ins. he took down my ins. information and said ok just initial all the circles and sign the bottom and you are ready to go. I thought that the Collision Damage Wavier spot meant that it was a wavier. I feel that this is a practice that Payless Car Rental uses to rip off the public through out the company. This is not just an over sight but a planned thing that they use on people that don't catch it at the time of signing the contract. I did not receive an original copy of the contract that showed where I signed the contract with my paper work that night. The pdf file shows the original. I would appreciate it very much if you could look into this. I don't feel that I am the only one that Payless Car Rental has ripped off.

    1. This is utterly ridiculous! I cannot believe that they would argue over $200. Sound almost like a computer generated message more than a person. I will not rent from them and neither will everyone I know.

Sorry you are going through this, but good for you for sticking to principle.

      Love you

  2. Sorry you are having trouble with the Payless Car Rental people. They use to be a good company when they first started in Spokane. I guess this is what happens when they get too big for their own good. I will not rent from them and I will tell everyone that I know about your trouble.
    Sorry, Butch

  4. Gerry, keep posting the comments that you get back. Payless may listen when some of their stock holders get this information. I am so sorry that you are going through this when there isn't really a need for it. I will never use Payless and I will pass your email along to everyone on my list.

    Hang in there, Jerry D.

  7. I am making a complain about Payless Car Rental out of Hartsfield Jackson Airport... I had rented a car for an extended time of 6wks and they have overcharged me making my final bill amount over 6,000.00 and the problem was that we was told that for each extension would be $140.00 weekly but each time we called the phone no.# to extend the rental they would just note it on the account and they could never inform us on how much the total will be weekly until the Rep told us that she could not display charges weekly on her computer and that was the only no# that I can through to someone. The car was returned after that 6wk period of time with all these additional fees(airport fees. corporate fees, etc) leaving with a tremendous balance and they only took out 2 times a payment within those pay 6wk time frame...I till this day is trying to talk to Corporate Office to discuss this matter and cannot get in touch with anyone. Every No# on web is coming up as a Non Working No#...If there is anyone out there that can help with trying to get a good working no# please inform me on it, so I can get this issue resolved, even if this matter has to be taking legally, they are trying to report me to collection...

  8. Payless Car rental over charged us by $170.00. We have called many times trying to correct this but they don not answer the phone. We went back to the counter where we rented the car and they refuse to help us. We will never again rent from payless.

  9. If I do not get a positive resolution in my favor I will be reporting this company to the BBB, YELP, FB, TripAdvisor & every social media website/ travel blog I can connect with. Please read below...the "executive desk" didn't even UNDERSTAND the issue but assumed we already completed travel & didn't pick up our rental. We do not even travel until 23 JULY!
    Sir/Madam,
You are failing to understand the nature of the issue at hand. My husband made a reservation and within a 14 minute time frame CANCELLED said reservation, because your company's rental office in Austin,TX was unable to accommodate our flight arrival/your hours of operation!
YOUR EMPLOYEES DID NOTHING TO EARN OUR HARD EARNED $50.00. Most legitimate car rental company's have a 24 hour cancellation policy where is, if a customer changes/cancels a reservation NOTHING is charged to the customer. I REALIZE what it says in your "terms and conditions" but in reality, reading a 10 paragraph "terms & conditions" & burying a $50.00 canx fee within said document is a bit shady, in my opinion! I am requesting AN EXCEPTION TO POLICY, since, as I previously stated, WE DID ALL THE WORK and then were CHARGED, for OUR CATCH THAT YOUR COMPANY WAS NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE OUR RENTAL CAR NEEDS.
PLEASE, read the entire letter before ASSUMING, that we "were late picking up our rental" as you previously stated in your reply to the complaint. THIS IS A UNIQUE request, which is why I am asking for a UNIQUE RESOLUTION. Respectfully, Mrs. Cheryl Conder & Mr. James Conder

I am very upset the way I was treated by the manager their. He just Hung up on me and was yelling at me. I was asking him to send me the copy of the bill so I could compare it to the one we have. I was over charged by $50.00 and want to know what it was. He refused to help me. We picked up our car rental and discovered 30 minutes later we had no aircondition . We returned the car rental later that day for a new one and received a compensation and a new bill upon our return. He is showing the bill we signed before they compensated us for the no ac car. They gave us a new receipt and now he doesn't want to help us. I will not rent from Payless ever again nor anyone that I know.

  11. I was just ripped off by the Payless car rental in Las Vegas. They added the CDW on my contract and scammed me out of $167.00. I've rented my times and never had a problem like this before. It seems the clerks are trained to slip in items to see if you catch them and if not your bind by the contract.

The bottom line is "NEVER RENT A CAR FROM PAYLESS" unless you want to pay more!

I'm fighting to get this charge removed but running into deaf ears.

  12. Never, I repeat Never rent from them. It may look "cheaper" at first but I was over charged $197, the car was filthy!!! I had to purchase a car seat for my daughter at Walmart. The service rep didn't seam to care that they didn't have a car seat for us!! Will never use them again so upset and still haven't been able to get my money back!!!......

  13. This is their common business practice. It is fraud, plain and simple. Same thing happened to me at Sacramento Airport; I declined all extended coverage and they charged me for Roadside Assistance anyway. I protested and they refused to take the charge off. If you look closely they hide the "accept" coverage between paragraphs declining other coverage and then tell you to initial all boxes to decline all coverage. Writing to the Better Business Bureau is useless; they are a shill for the companies. Write the State Attorney General and the local prosecution agency to demand an investigation. And write to Avis; they are the parent company. These guys are crooks.

  14. Wow, I wish I had read the reviews before renting from Payless for the first time. I was overcharged by almost $20 (for gas @ $9.99/gallon, gas is $2.15) but after hearing some of the stories listed here I guess I should be grateful it was only $20! Needless to say I will never, ever rent from these BOZO'S again! I I will spread the word going so far as to tell the people waiting in the Payless line in the airport "Don't do it"

  16. I was charged twice by Payless. Once by my ezpass and another by there ezpass. In the past with enterprise and Avis I have used my ezpass and never have been charged twice. However, I was charged both times for toll charges even though there ezpass was in a lock box that I never accessed. I called then to tell them about there products and they said nothing they can do. I called my credit card company and they denied my dispute because both were rang and someone has to pay. After getting the run around I finally called the Toll Highway people and today they finally returned my call to say nothing they can do since its out of 3 month window. I agree this company is a joke and I'll never use them again. So because of heir faulty product, I had to pay $50 twice for the same exact trip.

    1. I am currently having the same problem with Payless. Transponder was in OFF position the entire time, I used coins for any tolls and then was charged $18.00 by Payless. I cannot seem to get them to understand that I PAID the tolls in cash and the transponder was in the OFF position. Car was beautiful, clean, great to drive but I had a nightmare of a time with customer service over extending my rental due to the extent of repairs being done to my vehicle after an accident. I made at least 6 calls, got a different answer each and every time. Apparently everyone is given a slightly different script to read from. Will never use this company again.

  17. Expedia led me in the wrong direction. I booked my last minute surprise trip to visit my mother who is on dialysis waiting for a kidney transplant for Christmas. We flew into Denver and raced over to Payless - since Expedia quoted us !!! $169 !!! I thought, what a great deal!
So, we pull into Payless along with many others - but we are first in line - we walk up to a man at the counter and hand him our paperwork, again stating $169. Well, he then starts telling us what else we need in the condescending manner.I was never asked if I wanted additional coverage, yes I signed it but it was only because your employee handed me a contract and said "You need to sign here, here, here, here, and here" He did not explain the contract and his customer service was awful as he made me feel pressured and like I was annoying him. I asked him "Do I need this" And he said "Do you want to cover just the car or do you want to cover everything" And I said I want to do the minimum required. Then he tells me my total is !!! $380.80 !!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!?!? I looked shocked and said, why was my quote so much less and he said "Its busy season, those are the rates for this season" Well, my quote was FOR THIS SEASON- FOR THIS DAY- FOR THIS TIME!!!!!!!
I contacted you guys an hour after I was on the road after reviewing my contract that stated ADDING INSURANCE WAS AN OPTION(NOT what I was told) and was never contacted back, so I called again on the 27th and finally spoke with someone who was very polite. Then, called back on the 29th since I had not spoke with anyone after they stating someone would contact me and whomever I spoke with in the Denver location, it was a male, was VERY rude. Now I am hearing there is nothing you can do because I initialed something when your employee was being rude and pushy.
    This is bad business.
I will never be using payless again nor will ANYONE I know, I promise that. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE, PEOPLE!

  19. BITTEN BY A PAYLESS CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE
At Payless Car rental in Puerto Vallarta, my family and I experienced the worst customer service experience when trying to exit from possible scam. Two hours into PVR, I actually got bitten by a grown woman. Really, BITTEN by Maria, the customer service representative at the car rental counter just off the airport.
My husband reserved a car online like we always do. When we showed up at the counter: 1) there was no Volkswagen Vento as promised but one with a much smaller trunk space, 2) they increased the rental rate from $312 to $802 despite producing what we were quoted in the printed out email confirmation, 3) we were forced to buy into all the insurance that we were told was optional over the phone (we have our own), 4) they didn't credit us with our deposit as they claimed they didn’t have our reservation on file, 5) we were being charged an airport improvement tax when the location was not in the airport. We were then forced to use our roaming cellular data to retrieve it for them.
The customer service agent, Maria, only spoke Spanish and my daughter had to translate with her intermediate Spanish. They informed us there would be a second tax for 'local taxes' although one had already been included in the email summary. After an hour of standing in the counter, we finally agreed to the outrageously inflated price and my husbanded signed the rental agreement with dubious tax charges and the blank credit card slip for $100,000 pesos to cover damages, notwithstanding the mandatory insurance purchase. We asked for the keys and were ready to finally leave when she said in broken English “more information”. She then asked us to sign a BLANK accident report admitting to liability for an accident that has not occurred. My husband and I both immediately and vehemently objected to taking responsibility for damages to the car which we had not even driven. Her response to our objections was—“Do you want the car or not?”
We responded “NO” and decided to cancel the deal. My husband went out to unload our luggage from the trunk of the car. I asked Maria to give us back the signed $100,000 pesos credit card slip. When she refused, I took the slip with my husband’s signature from the counter. Maria, then grabbed my hand and BIT it to get back the credit card slip. How crazy is that?!? My husband and daughter both screamed at her. She then claimed that I hit her in the teeth and that's how I got the teeth marks on my hand. We enclose photos of my bruised hand and Maria's face with a time stamp - she doesn't have any physical injuries and it's clear she was lying to try to cover herself.
My questions are: what kind of car rental company asks for a blank accident report to be signed admitting to any liability for any accident. But most importantly: What kind of customer service representative bites their customers?

    1. I had some problems with this company but nothing like you have encountered. My response was to contact the State Attorney General in my home state and in the servicing state where the car was rented. They have consumer assistance available for these type of situations and will investigate these circumstances.

  20. I rented a car last week thru San Diego Payless two weeks prior I reserved a car via Cheap cars .com. When I got to car rental they told they had no reservation said my email stating they were out must came to my spam mail. So I rented a car for 50.00 more .When I picked up the car told the agent that tire light was on he said it was fine and walked off I then drove 100 miles and engine light came on for 15 hours couldn't get anyone to answer the phone finally got an agent who told the car was due for an oil change and the car was fine . So I came out to get in car I have a flat tire.
Again called 10 times before getting anyone they had a tow truck change the tire the car had donut so I had take the car to get the tire fixed three hours later I can drive the car after two days of not being able to.
The engine light never went off on the day I brought it back the agent was extremely rude to me and only took off 10.00 off my bill I've rented from payless the last several years have never had a problem will never rent from them again tried to call corporate number online and not a working number

  21. Brian:
The telephone assistant's description of the issue is incorrect. Bottom line, I did not receive a car for my reservation. The reservation was originally a round trip from Houston Bush Airport. I was in Denver, and my flight to Houston was canceled, because Houston Airport flooded on April 18th and closed. While I was securing a stand by flight to Dallas instead, I spoke to one of your phone rep's who told me they would transfer my Houston reservation to Dallas, and the rental would be one way from Dallas pick up to Houston Airport drop off on the 21st. The rep told me the cost would increase to $288.00, and I agreed. As we were completing the transaction, I had to immediately complete my standby ticket for the flight, because it was the only seat left and was told by the rep to call back. I boarded the plane and called the Payless number again. I was speaking to a different rep this time. The new rep told me I could rent a car one way from Dallas to Houston also. While we were trying to complete the rental transaction, the flight attendant told me to end the call, because the last seat on the plane I received was an emergency exit seat, and she had to have my undivided attention to instruct me of the emergency proceedures. The Payless rep told me to complete the one way transaction with the Payless counter rep at Dallas International Airport. When I arrived at Payless at Dallas Airport, the counter rep refused to rent me a car one way to Houston. He said they had cars, but inventory was low, and they needed them for new customers. This left me completely stranded in Dallas with no reason to be in Dallas. I find to have a prepaid reservation, being stranded, because Payless wants to rent an available car to a POSSIBLE, IMAGINARY CUSTOMER, to be nothing less than absolute, authentic bullshit. I have never received such negligent, incredibly terrible customer service before in my life. Please, refund me my original, prepaid rental price for Comfirmation 01553755JS0, and the cost of the car rental from your courteous competitor for Payless' negligence, my hassle and pain to locate a rental and for the unbelievable terrible, poor customer service. I expect a phone call from Payless regarding this matter. My number is
    Brian:
    Cristy,
I appreciate your service in this matter. However, there is still a serious issue that Payless needs to address regarding their customer care. To deny a PREPAID customer a vehicle, when there are vehicles available, and leave the customer completely stranded in a city they have no reason to be in other than a flight reroute is not poor customer service; it is absolutely NO CUSTOMER SERVICE and inexcusably insulting. Because of Payless' NO CUSTOMER SERVICE policy, I ended up paying nearly 3 times the car rental rate for a car at a different company. Understandable if Payless did not have any vehicles left, but Payless had vehicles left. When the counter person told me they needed to save the cars for the new costomers flying in to Dallas, because of the Houston closure, it provided Payless with the opportunity to increase their rental prices due to the crisis, just like all the other care companies I spoke with that day. I was prepaid, willing to pay for the appropriate increase, had an active contract and was refused service, because Payless Dallas Airport wanted to maximize their profits to new customers due to a opportunity created by a weather airport closure. Very honestly, this has nothing to do with ticket systems and communications. Very honestly, this has everything to do with NO CUSTOMER SERVICE to a prepaid, contacted customer that should have received an available vehicle from Payless Dallas Airport. I want to escalate this ticket to Payless, US Corporate Management. Please, send me a telephone number of the manager to speak to at Payless' US Corporate office. By not sending me this number, I will again receive NO CUSTOMER SERVICE from Payless once again.
Thank you again for your service, very much apprecieated,

  22. I was overcharged $102.10 for insurance that I specifically waived at the counter. I'm in the military so I cannot settle my claim. I am going to make an official complaint with the Government to make sure this doesn't happen again in the future to other service members.

  23. Payless Car Rental is a complete scam!!! I was in Phoenix and rented a car from them and had to extend my rental agreement for 1 additional day and they had my sign a contract for the extra day which was going to be an additional $200. I told the agent that I didn't need any of the extra coverage and he told me great, just initial the circled areas and sign at the bottom and when I got home I found out that the second contract had different wording stating that I "Did Agree" to pay for those options that jacked my bill up to $487.00. When I received the invoice they double charged me for all of the items I thought I was initialing to say I "Declined" and those double charges resulted in a $688 bill. When I brought this to their attention through their Customer Service Webpage, they came back with the following:

At Payless we take complaint resolution seriously and thoroughly reviewed your issue within our Corporate Customer Service Team. After careful analysis we determined that the original conclusion not to issue a refund was correct.

Payless takes great pride in providing dependable cars and attentive service at great prices. Your feedback is very important to us and we hope that you continue to consider Payless for your future car rental needs. We have closed your case and no further action will be taken.

    Sincerely,
    Daniel,
    Payless Customer Care.

They also charged me for the days up till my extension so in total I have paid out over $890 for the car. They are crooked and shady and they definitely have very little value in the customers. I will never use them again and make sure that everyone I speak to knows never to use them!!!

  24. Do NOT park here at the Payless Philly airport location (6938 Norwitch Dr., Philadelphia, PA 19153)! I accidentally left a piece of luggage 5-10 ft away from the front door in the middle of the parking lot at 11pm on Sat, July 2, 2016. I was either the last shuttle or they had 1 more shuttle run. Amazingly--NO ONE saw a piece of luggage in the middle of the lot right by the front door. I have called 7 times, been told by 4 different people that they would call me back to let me know about the status of my luggage, and no one has ever called me back! To add insult to injury in the middle of talking with the general manager, Brielle Wilkins, she put me on hold not once but TWO times while I was talking mid-sentence.

If you can't trust staff to turn in forgotten luggage, you would be CRAZY to give them keys to your car. Interestingly, we found Styrofoam plates in our van on our return--did someone eat in our car???

  25. I had an experience w/ Payless Car rental this past weekend and I am recommending that you never use them for car rental. First the agent tried to add an insurance charge when I said I did not want any. Then I found they had charged me for roadside service at $6 a day. That is a free service w/ other companies and I have AAA so I would never have approved that charge if I knew it was there. Oh yeah and Payless is a Budget Car Rental offshoot so consider not using them also. They would not refund the overcharge so they are on the “no use” list for me now.

  29. This place is total garbage. Overcharged me by more than $300 dollars. It's astonishing this company still has a license to operate as a business. Every step working with this company to resolve the issue was painful, always speaking with incompetent employees and managers that make false promises to help resolve the issue. NEVER rent from these people. You may see a low price from one of their affiliates online, but be assured, they will bone you in fees and a higher daily rate when you show up to the counter to pickup. And if you're really unlucky, they will overcharge your credit card after the fact. You've been warned.

  30. The reason I had to cancel my recent reservation with "Payless" auto rental was the inability to reach the San Diego airport location directly. The phone number given 619-296-4966 is never answered by a human.

I was trying to find out what happens if my scheduled flight is delayed (scheduled 8:35PM arrival) and I cannot get to the pickup area before 10PM closing.
Are they there right up until 10PM or if it is not busy, do they leave early? Also, if I call prior to departure from Ft. Lauderdale alerting them to the possibility of the late arrival, will anyone wait? Is there a phone number, that will be answered by a human and not sent to an answering machine?

After leaving several messages for a callback on the answering machine, 3 days later, no return call. I had no choice, but to cancel and make other arrangements.
