Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores: Fueling America’s Roadways

A Brief Overview of Love’s

Founded in 1964 by Tom and Judy Love, Love’s began its journey as a humble gas station in Watonga, Oklahoma. Over the decades, it evolved into a nationwide phenomenon, now recognized as one of America’s most trusted travel stop brands. Initially a gas and convenience store, Love’s rapidly expanded its offerings in response to the evolving needs of America’s motorists and truckers. Today, with more than 500 locations spread across 41 states, Love’s provides professional truck drivers and motorists with 24-hour access to clean and safe places to purchase gasoline, diesel fuel, travel items, electronics, snacks, and more. Their Tire Care and Truck Care centers also offer roadside assistance and maintenance to ensure the journey remains uninterrupted.

Love’s and Its Unique Position in the Market

In an industry dominated by large fuel conglomerates and franchise-operated gas stations, Love’s has carved out a distinct niche for itself by offering a comprehensive range of services tailored to both regular motorists and professional truck drivers. Beyond just fuel and food, many of Love’s locations feature amenities like showers, truck parking, and even on-site restaurants featuring brands like Hardee’sSubway, Arby’s, and Godfather’s Pizza. Additionally, their commitment to customer service, epitomized by their “Clean Places, Friendly Faces” promise, has been a key factor behind their widespread acclaim and trust. In an ever-competitive market, Love’s continues to set the benchmark for travel stops, ensuring that those on America’s roadways are always well catered to.

Love’s Competitive Landscape in the Gas Station Sector

In the expansive realm of highway gas stations and convenience stores, Love’s faces stiff competition from several renowned brands. Casey’s, predominantly found in the Midwest, offers a unique blend of gas services and made-from-scratch pizzas that have garnered a loyal customer base. Racetrac, operational in the southern United States, boasts a broad variety of fuel options and an extensive convenience store lineup. Speedway, which recently became part of the 7-Eleven family, has a widespread presence and offers the Speedy Rewards loyalty program, making it a top contender. Wawa, with its cult-like following, combines fuel services with a fresh food market and is especially dominant in the Mid-Atlantic region. Beyond these, there are other significant players like Pilot Flying J and TA-Petro, which, much like Love’s, specialize in serving the needs of long-haul truckers. As the industry continues to evolve, these brands are constantly innovating, with a focus on enhancing customer experience, broadening product offerings, and integrating technology to maintain a competitive edge. Another competitor is Kwik Trip.

Loves Corporate Office - Blood on the shower wall and No Towels

Rated 1.0 out of 5
October 31, 2023

I came into Store #753 to take a shower at 4:42 pm 10/29/2023 upon getting ready to get into the shower I noticed there were no towels. I proceeded to put my pants back on and go out the door and noticed a towel cart a couple of doors down so I went down to get a set of towels that should have been already provided in my shower. A girl named Stephanie proceeded and said next time ask with her sassy rude self. Upon reentering the shower after completing my shower I turned around and noticed blood all over the wall that had not cleaned off by the previous person. This means the shower was never cleaned and would explain why there were no towels in it. I immediately stopped Stephanie upon leaving and let her know about the blood on the wall. I’ve had some bad experiences but nothing like this one just plain nasty. Worst experience ever

Burned by the hot water…

First, the minor complaint: I want my Dove Dark Chocolate bars back! lol

Second, this one is going to get you sued: A little before 7 this morning in Marion, NC, I came out of my bathroom stall, and, being a clean person, I went to wash my hands. The hot water burned the palm of my hand in the first degree; I was surprised because in spite of the signs, I had adjusted the water to warm, then I was suddenly burned when someone else flushed a regular toilet in the same room.

As a safety person, one, administrative controls such as the signs about the excessively hot water temperature are always inferior to engineering controls, such as shutting off the hot water to the sinks, especially in the presence of an obvious workaround such as the sink with the manual faucet control. I’d rather have cold water than burns!

It was 5° outside…I stopped to urinate and buy a drink…I was informed a customer had just left the men’s restroom in extremely bad condition and an employee (female) had just cleaned it..and I was NOT allowed to use the urinal…I had to urinate really bad so I urinated in the clean urinal…the female employee followed me in there while calling me mother… this mother… that…then she called the police on me…the police arrived and told me I was trespassing…I didn’t break any laws and I did not threaten anyone…while waiting for the police to arrive, I did start recording the conversations to cover myself and this embarrassing incident.

1. None of the service centers ever have mechanics. Been to three stores and only 1 mechanic. 2. I was hit by a vehicle on the left side rear of the trailer. It messed up my rim, tire, and hub. I take it to store #619 to have the damages fixed. I stated I wanted everything wrong fixed(EVERYTHING). I was told no problem we will make it happen. So it worked completely I was happy and I saw my abs light was still on, so I said hey I need that off I was told it would go off on its own in roughly 20 miles. Well, 500 miles later it’s still on. I brought it to store #206 and was told there would not be a machine for 2 days. I then proceed to store #802. They will take a look and see if they can even fix the issue and I would be charged. 3. Why am I being charged for something that should have been done from the get-go? I was told it was taken care of. It was never put on the work order and now I am having to pay for it. This poor very poor.. if I don’t have it fixed I get fined by DOT. So why would I take my truck and trailer that has damage and not have everything fixed so I am legal? I would its just poor unprofessional and incompetent workers who are lazy.. also these are not the only stores. 4. The staff that work in the majority of the stores are garbage. Way way way unprofessional. No common courtesy or customer service. Always having attitude and never having showers ready for guests I had to wait 2 hours one time for a shower that no one was in all were empty just none were cleaned. 5. I chose LOVES as my go-to care center for my personal and truck needs. I am an owner-operator and I will be looking elsewhere for my services.
