  1. Itness 19 in Algonquin Il. continued removing monthly fees from my bank account after I cancelled for health reasons.Manager KYle(would not give last name,or his superiors name)said there was nothing he could do because I did not have the yellow paper they give when you are cancelled. The club removed 5 payments of $19.00 after I had cancelled, saying they had no record of a cancellation.

    9. Micah, (re: Buena Park Location)
It has been about 20 crazy weeks since you and I met briefly via a quick phone chat and a couple quick e-mails, spurred by a situation that acutely developed around my mother’s medical condition. Unfortunately, due to a lost phone, I no longer have your contact info.

This e-mail version of this memo ends in a lengthy chronological account of this issue too lengthy for this format; But essentially my Mom (Karel Martin) signed up for membership as well as private lessons. Very soon after doing so she was informed by her medical overseers that she must not do anything unsupervised. After you and I communicated, everything spun quickly out of control.

I am appalled at how many phone messages left with front desk guys went unreturned. I was also appalled at the inability for anyone left in charge of that place to provide me with Some piece of contact info to reach you. And with Reid Spiegal, it wasn’t due to lacking the ability to put me in touch with you- but his DESIRE to do so.
      What an arrogant worthless dope.

    10. Background:
      May 5/6. Purchased $360
End of May- mom and I learn that

June…. During vacation Reid tells me on phone to plan on handling it at end of summer

End of August between brush fires had a few messages go unanswered. This was over the course of about a week or two.

Begin of Sept, I managed to find Micah. He said that he just needed a few days but would see no problem working something out. Understanding there was nobody to transfer the services to he felt we should be able to compromise. My stance was and remains to be that NO SERVICES were ever rendered other than the few minutes of admin time needed to sign her up. And to boot she paid for a couple months of membership without ever being able to step into the place.

Returning home from more brush fires I retrieved an e-mail a few weeks old from Reid Spiegal saying to call him back since Micah gave him "approval on how to handle".

I called 2-3 times over the next couple weeks. There was also a couple e-mails advising him that my calls were going unreturned.
I recall getting a reply to one saying I just needed to "[provide some documentation regarding my Mom's health to get a refund going] ".

In trying to do so, I hit a wall with my Mom as she had become extremely incoherent. In contacting the doctors I was aware of I was met with all the HIPPA obstacles and basically my hands were tied. So I sent a letter to my Mom telling her to handle this Fitness 19 snafu. Unbeknownst to me, her ability to do anything of the sort had diminished in very short order.

Most of September came and went in a flash due to several brush fires. I was called by a hospital in Orange County last week of Sept '15, due to my Mom being taken there via 9-1-1 services.

As things unfolded, I spent the next couple weeks watching her die. In mid-October, I left a full page note on Reid's desk relaying much of this. The front desk guys made sure it was put where he would see it. I was stressing that I needed to chat with you (Micah). I also let him know that I now had a copy of my Mom's death certificate consistent with the ailments of 2015 that kept her inactive.

January 21 I recommenced my efforts. Reid is who picked up the phone when I called at 9am. After stating my name and reminded him I needed Micah's info he told me "look, You nor your situation rings a bell; anyway I am in conference and I should call back at 3pm.” Wow!

The dissonance this caused! Who answers the phone in your setting when you are in “Conference”, especially one that is so long that I have to wait 6 hrs to call back?! But I have learned from previous chats that Mr. Spiegal gets the last word so I resolved to just hang up politely then proceed to call at 3 sharp.
At 1500 hrs I got to speak to Andy only---Reid?
"Reid [oddly enough] is Out To Lunch".

Andy advised me to utilize the corporate website. I replied that I had but found the number published on it to be a hoax. So, he provided me with this address for sending you this e-mail. I left a message for Reid to contact me by e-mail. No more undocumented phone conversations. There should be no question as to why I choose to not deal with Reid anymore. By the way, I found the e-mail address given me also to be a hoax. I tried to tweek it in different ways- like .ca etc, but Undeliverable regardless. ([email protected]) .

No e-mails, visits, hand-written notes, nor phone calls were ever answered. No comm ever initiated by anyone from Fitness 19 since that missed e-mail written August 8th.

I have been dealing with another family death in Texas where much of my time has been spent, and now as things are normalizing somewhat I am determined to put this issue to rest.

I have put more effort into this than $360 will ever reconcile, however I cannot bear to see this kind of conduct persist in an industry that is supposed to be founded on the desire to serve.

There is always a bad apple in every bunch, and Reid is certainly that Apple.

    11. they remove fee's when they aren't suppose to which if you are like me I know exactly what is coming out of my account so when they do this it causes unexpected fee's which they don't credit back. Not to mention the trainers. Let's just say don't get a trainer from this company. The trainers are not professional in any sense. They tell you what you want to hear. They will say well done and after you leave they are telling others how you sucked. How is that for a trainer???? The funny thing about it is that people talk and it get's back to you. When you go back in trying to get it out of your head what they it's pretty difficult especially since they act like they are interested in your goals. Right!!! Oh, and they think that they can treat you however they want. I was working out one day and as I was leaving heard one of the trainers basically get rude with one of his customer's. He told this individual that he didn't really care what she thought and that this individual wasn't allowed to discuss their training. What is that? Don't we all talk about our training. Why doesn't this trainer what this individual talking about their training for. Oh, maybe cause they aren't training them. Possiby cause they tell them it's cardio and that's consider training and have them sign a book saying they received training. ARe you kidding me. Well ladies and gentlemen this is what's going on. Also you are basically just a dollar to them. A friend of mind was telling me how they brag about telling people what they want just to get them to sign up. Then they tell them they need more training to get them to sign up again. It's all a game. This is what the manager's of the gym's preach to their trainers. Now, tell me how they would feel to you. Plus if your a trainer that has mastered it and get's people to sign up they can do whatever they want. Can you imagine you pay for a service and get treated like crap and simply don't want to go back. But because you signed a contract you are out of the money. How would you feel if the trainer even states to you that they don't care what you think they have your money. Oh, women let me just tell you what they say about you. You work all day then go to the gym (the trainers will say horrible things about you that just me you wouldn't even imagine). They tell others in the gym that you smell like fish and when you come in they are laughing at you. I know cause I actually saw this happen. It's sad I would never let my wife go to this gym.

I could go on and on but I think you get the ideal. If you don't care about your results or what is talked about you well enjoy the unprofessional services. Or getting ripped off....

    12. I cancelled my membership to Fitness 19 in Cary, NC on 9/9/2016. I was told at that time I owed delinquent because my debit card had been changed by my bank and my monthly draft was not processed. When I protested that fee, it was waived and I was informed that my account was paid in full. On 10/11/2016 I received a letter from Sarah Carson saying they were having problems with my billing information. During a phone conversation the following day I was told that I owed the monthly fee for September and a fee because my old debit card had refused the monthly draft. Evidently there is a very low level of training at the Cary, NC facility. I guess they need my $30.00 in order to avoid bankruptcy. Then again according to the reviews I've read Fitness 19 makes a habit of beating people out of their money. What a very, very sad way to earn a living.

  2. Riverside, La Sierra office (March 15, 2013) but Jeremy refused to take my cancellation letter saying it had to be notarized. I went to the notary, had cancellation note notarized and a customer at the notary shop said they were able to cancel their membership recently WITHOUT getting a signed notarized note (and incur the added cost).

Went back and had the same Fitness 19 person (Jeremy) and he just ignore me for 10 minutes only to say he couldn't help. I asked if I could take only 2 minutes of his time to drop off some paperwork, and asked if the person he was with would mind if I could take 2 minutes but he yells over me to say that "You don't have to do that, she can just wait." Most people don't mind when others need to a minute or two just to put in paperwork, look up account, which are online and easily accessed and then be on their way, but I found Jeremy rude from the beginning and worked hard to block being able to receive the cancellation note.

    1. fitness 19 also refused to return my enrollment fee when I decided to cancel the very same day I enrolled. They also have refused to stop taking money out of my daughter's account even when we faxed a cancellation letter. My daughter is a single parent and now she has overdraft fees at her bank and only works part time. There ought to be something we can do. I know there are more people out there with the same problem from this company. Lasierra fitness 19 have no integrity or concern for their customer.

  4. To Whom it may concern,

My name is Andrew. I have attended fitness 19 for almost 3 years. In that time I have gained over 20 lbs of muscle, even cutting my body fat percentage down. In short, the gym is my sanctuary.

I have dozens of friends that work out at this Fitness 19, about a quarter of which I brought. When Brian, (the old GM) was working here, every time I walked through the door, I was greeted with a warm smile, a handshake, and a "how you doin, buddy?" EVERY time. This new manager (Bobby) and his female friend (another manager) have yet to say ONE hello to me. Bobby said goodbye, after a 17 year old female employee said goodbye first, so it was only because of the situation.

In this time, I have heard over 10 people come up to me out of the blue and begin venting about things Bobby did. "Bobby told me I can't have water while I'm working out. He makes me put my water bottle in the locker." and "Bobby was harassing me today."

I thought these were purely horror stories, and today I got a taste of what it was truly like. Bobby approached me and made me put my gatorade in my locker. I was respectful and did what he asked, although I saw no reason to put a lidded drink away. What was it going to do, spill on the floor and make a mess? But the worst part is how he handled it. He walked up to me and my friend; "Hey, you guys need to put your drinks in your locker. Only water out here. That rule will NEVER change." Hello to you too, Bobby! Nice to meet you. Nope. Those are the only words he has ever spoken to me. He said it like he had told us before - like a reprimand. And I have never even spoken to this guy before. He sat in the office this whole time, playing on his phone, asking the two female employees to cover the door while cleaning. So they were running back and forth, cleaning equipment, while trying to check people in while he lounged in the office.

Later, the other gal that is a manager (I am not sure what her name is) came up to me and my friend and got mad/aggressive with us for "dropping the weights." Me and my friend were going heavy with dumbbell press, and were lowering the weights as far as we could before we dropped them, not to tear our shoulders. We weren't maliciously throwing them. I thought that's why the gym floor has some give to it? So people can do deadlifts, power cleans, press workouts? I cannot even count the amount of people that are upset with this new management.

Like I said, Fitness 19 is my sanctuary. A place where I can go to workout, blow off steam, and zone out. Now, I feel as if I am walking on egg-shells.

If I do not see change in the attitude and rudeness levels of these managers (Bobby, especially) or if he is not let go, I will be switching back to 24 hour fitness, and taking everyone I am able with me.

  8. I'm a member of Fitness 19 in Cary,NC ( located in the Preston corners shopping center )and I really want for Fitness 19 to STOP playing that KAYLAH MARIN- ON THE FLOOR ( OH BABY PLEASE ) song ! In my opinion ( and according to MY MORALITY/ETHICS/VALUES/PERSONAL BELIEFS )I really consider playing a song like that out loud in a PUBLIC PLACE ( like a public gym where all kinds of different and diverse types of people are PAYING to be members of the gym )to be TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE and TOTALLY RUDE and TOTALLY DISRESPECTFUL and TOTALLY TASTELESS and TOTALLY CLASSLESS!

This song OFFENDS ME,this song OFFENDS MY EARS and HEARING and MY MIND/THINKING everytime I HAVE TO hear it being played out loud at Fitness 19 ! HAVING TO hear that song being played at Fitness 19 feels like a kind/type of VIOLATION or ASSAULT on me, IT IS a kind/type of VIOLATION or ASSAULT on people if they HAVE TO listen to a song like that being played OUT LOUD in any PUBLIC PLACE that is NOT a NIGHTCLUB,DANCECLUB,or STRIPCLUB or some place like those!

Today I walked into Fitness 19 around 5:30pm Saturday 8/3/2013 and THAT song was playing REALLY LOUDLY in there! THAT song is also REALLY EMBARASSING to have playing in a PUBLIC place where people of BOTH SEXES are around each other ( like I said before: that is NOT a NIGHTCLUB or DANCECLUB or some place like that ),atleast I find it EMBARASSING and DISTURBING!

I'm a ADULT FEMALE and I WOULD BET MONEY ON IT that whenever THAT SONG is playing at Fitness 19 ALL the MALES that are in there that can HEAR that song playing ( who are not listening to their own music that they brought with them )start to THINK about SEX and start to THINK about EXACTLY what THAT SONGS LYRICS are SAYING while that song is playing in the gym!

ANYBODY who thinks it's perfectly OK and perfectly ACCEPTABLE to play a song like KAYLAH MARIN- ON THE FLOOR ( Oh Baby Please ) in a PUBLIC PLACE that is NOT a place like a NIGHTCLUB or DANCECLUB or something like that really needs to be and deserves to be SHOT !( in my opinion )

Fitness 19 really needs to take THAT SONG off of it's MUSIC PLAYLIST FOREVER ASAP! I really don't want to HAVE TO hear it being played at Fitness 19 EVER AGAIN after this !

No SEXUALLY EXPLICIT,SEXUALLY GRAPHIC or SEXUALLY SUGGESTIVE or SEXUALLY STIMULATING songs should be played at FITNESS 19 GYMS or in ANY PUBLIC PLACES( that are NOT there/meant for SEXUAL purposes/intended for SEXUAL purposes )!

  11. I joined Fitness 19 for a 3 month membership in July 2012. It wasn't what I wanted so in September 2012, a friend and myself went in so I could cancel membership. The employee printed off a form which I signed and left. I found out they have been charging me $15 a month since then by taking it out my account. I cancelled that account and found out today, October 10, 2013, that this was being done when they sent me a bill. They had also charged me a $35 renewal fee. I called them and was told there wasn't anything they could do because they had no record of me cancelling my membership. The friend who went in with me also cancelled her membership and they have no record she ever belonged. Obviously there is a problem with record keeping. They also told me today that I had to come in today to cancel or they would turn me into a collection agency. This is in Billings, Montana. I am in the process of complaining to the Better Business Bureau. I am looking at also maybe small claims action.

  13. Joined on June 15, 2013 in Cary, NC. Paid $12.95/month. Went in on Sept. 25, 2013 to advise I was moving across the state and needed to cancel. Was charged $22.95 on Oct. 16 for the 30 day payment notice (was told the $10 extra fee was noted on back of contract for 30 day cancellation). Charged $39 on Oct. 16 for the next year's service contract. Stated because my membership went into October they couldn't do anything to refund this. Stated it was their individual ability to do this.; I tried to offer evidence from the apartment complex I am renting from effective Oct. 25th in Charlotte and there was no budging. I think it stinks that for 16 days this company thinks they can charge me $39 for the following year's service fee.

My check was cashed within a couple of days (in July) and I honestly thought nothing of it. But I also didn't think I'd be waiting 3 more months for the club to open. Very disappointed. Not sure this is the way to run a business Fitness19. Seriously. Ya' had no problem cashing my check ASAP, but to take 3 months to get the facility open - not cool. And to be honest - as of this writing - I still don't know when the location will open. I called early in Oct and was told they were getting inspected and would likely open Oct 10-11. It's not Oct 28th - nothing. Come folks - get it together.

  22. I would like to make a complaint regarding your Rancho Cucamonga, CA (@Haven) facility. There is never any toilet tissue or working/empty hand soap dispensers in the ladies restroom!! This is a on going problem every week when I go. Several members have complained to the front desk but
issue continues. Secondly, the exercise class room is always filthy! It is suppose to be mopped/cleaned after each class which it is not! There are
hair balls rolling around on the floor, sweat covered mirrors and floors and
gum stuck to the floor!! This has resulted in members slipping and falling.
Some instructors have stopped holding classes due to the danger. Some
of us members take it upon ourselves to sweep the floor!! Another
complaint ignored. All of us members pay a yearly maintenance fee!!!??? We should not have to be subjected to these issues!! Please address this asap. This is a health hazard for everyone. If it does not improve, I will contact the Health Department and they may possibly shut this place down until problems are solved! I speak on behalf of many! Thank you

  23. When I asked the employees at my Temecula Ca Fitness 19 location to consider posting a notice to all guests to rerack their weights, the employee stated, "it wasnt in their policy to have things posted because the gym likes a clean atmosphere." So I then responded, that reracking weights after use could be considered part of said clean atmosphere. Where the employee then stated that I should let guests know it's their responsibility to rerack weights after use. Meanwhile he and his coworker are sitting and chatting at the desk while 6 machines that I counted had plates just sitting on them.
Clearly, this establishment requires customers to not only pay monthly dues, clean their own machines and apparently notify all guests of proper gym protocol. God forbid employees earn their hourly salary actually working.

  24. Not very customer service friendly at all. They speak polite but are out to screw you in the end. I started working 60 hours a week, then I did not have time to show up and work out. I was okay with 15 a month, but several months go by, then annual fee gets taken out on top of that. I do not have time to write and send letters, nor do I have a car, nor do I have the time to show up to stop payments. I asked if their was anyway to refund the months I did not show up, and she freely, laughingly said, there are a lot of people who do not show up for months and years and they still continue to take money out of their account. I really wish THE CO office would put a stop to legally trying to rip people off. I will continue to tell everyone I know how bad their business is for the rest of my life. I will never, ever have anything friendly to say about their business conduct or customer service conduct at all.

  25. Based on my review of the comments above, I should say that I am not surprised that I am having the problems with my local Fitness 19 located on Boston Rd. in Lexington, KY.

Fortunately for me, I don't work out in the fitness center. I have a problem with the management and sharing space in a shopping center with this location. My company has tried to do our part in being a greener company and have employed a recycling dumpster to use for all of our recyclable items. The employees of the club have been told that the recycling dumpster is owned/rented by my company and that they should not put anything that is not recyclable into the dumpster. After several conversations with the local Fitness 19 they continue to dump items into our dumpster preventing the city from being able to empty the dumpster. I have spoken to what I believe is a manager (Cody) and there has still not been any change or help in the matter. I have asked to speak to the general manager and apparently that person does not exist or at least does not work in the gym. Two days in a row now I have spoken to Cody about removing gym mats that they put in the dumpster and two days in a row nothing has been done. I have heard three or four different excuses as to why they cannot get them out.

If you are thinking about joining this gym, I would be really cautious. If they cannot determine what stuff goes in a dumpster and cannot take the things out of the dumpster that they mistakingly put in the dumpster, would you want them guiding you in your workouts? I think not.

If you are a member at this gym, I would encourage you to support me in demanding that they follow the rules or leave their gym. There are plenty of other gyms in the Lexington area and I am sure they would love your business.

  26. Same thing happened to me!! (Brookly Park, MN) I cancelled last August (10 months ago) and they just yesterday called me saying I had over $170 in late fees and unpaid monthly memebership fees. I too, cancelled my card and got a new one. The manager I talked to tried to make me feel bad for him when I asked him why it took them 10 MONTHS to get in touch with me before threatening to send my bills to "a collection agency." He said that he gets a list of people that owe money and if bills aren't paid, that "(his) credit score is greatly affected.." YOUR CREDIT SCORE??? I am not sympathizing with a manager associated with a corrupt company. He offered to wave my "late fees" and cut down my payments in half so I would just owe $65, yeah not happening. Cancelled that account. It is not my fault that your system is shit. He told me they had proof of my cancellation...so that would be the end of it! But no, trying to scam me out of my own money. FITNESS 19 IS A SCAM.

  27. I was going to put a complaint in but it doesn't seem like it would do any good....this page doesn't even look like a real corp page....soooo disappointed but if I cancel I believe I will still get charged from reading the comments above.

  28. I didn't even bother to read any of the complaints above. This is a great gym. It has everything you need to stay in shape at a price anyone can afford. but PLEASE turn off the rap that you started to play at the gym in Orange CA on Tusting and Chapman. Go back to the crappy disco music that was, at least, conducive to exercising.

  29. [Fitness 19, 40789 Garfield Rd., Clinton Twp., MI 48038, phone number (586) 226-1915].
I noticed that my monthly membership fee had increase. I asked the manager Dylan at Fitness 19 in Clinton Twp., MI why after three years had my membership increased. He informed me there is new ownership and this would be corrected.
On Sunday, August 17, 2014 I asked Megan, a Fitness 19 employee, to speak with her to find out why my monthly fee had not been adjusted as of yet. She showed me a piece of paper stating that my monthly fee is $17.00. I asked her where is the paper stating that I was paying $5.00? She wasn’t able to answer my question so I asked to speak with the general manager. She told me she didn’t know when he would be in. I happened to notice a basket full of membership cancellation papers next to her. Suddenly she raised her voice and burst out, “I am the manager! Don’t touch my computer and you came into my office!” I told her that I did not touch her computer, which I hadn’t. I also stated that her office is in an open space and that I had asked to talk to her prior to starting our conversation.
Then she start screaming, “The other day you told the receptionist you don’t need to say the number one in front of your last four digits!” I told her that the new receptionist could not check me in with my last four digits, which previously had always worked. Megan shouted at me, “Come to the front desk, I will show you!” We went to the front desk where she continued to scream, “I am going to call police on you! I am going to cancel your membership!” Fortunately I was able to stay calm and told her, “No, you cannot” and walked away.
I was in complete shock. Never in my life has someone been so rude and disrespectful to me. My pride was hurt and at the same time I felt sorry for Megan’s immature display. She was extremely unprofessional and I was embarrassed for her. I was also confused. Why would she threaten me with calling the police and cancelling my membership when I had simply asked when my membership fee would be adjusted back to what Dylan had stated it would be? Instead of trying to retain and grow Fitness 19’s membership, she is doing the exact opposite with her unacceptable behavior.
That same day I called my bank for a copy of my statement and also to put a block on my account. I am cancelling my membership.
The following day I went to Fitness 19 to talk to Dylan. He told me that yes, Megan can call the police and also cancel my membership. I was later informed that the two are dating. Could this have something to do with this irrational behavior? Dylan said, “Ma’am, there are always two sides to every story.” I asked him if the three of us could please sit down and discuss this matter. He told me that he had a client now so I shook his hand and thanked him for hearing me out. I asked him to give Dawnee, my personal trainer, a hug goodbye for me. Dawnee was also sad and said, “Oh, you’re leaving?” Suddenly Megan approached and started screaming, “Ma’am, I am asking you to leave!” What triggered this behavior? I was saying goodbye and leaving, why would she scream at me? She used to greet me in a sweet voice and smile at me. Now she has become irrational. I was so hurt and embarrassed by this treatment.
I don’t believe the customer is always right, even though many companies abide by this rule. However, I had done nothing wrong and instead of assisting me in setting things right, I was yelled at, threatened, and embarrassed. Even as I was saying goodbye and walking out the door, I was verbally assaulted by a Fitness 19 employee.
I hope by writing this letter that no one else will have to go through the same unprofessional and undignified experience.

  30. I have been attending Fitness 19 for a little over a year now and in the past 7 months I have been having off and on problems with them. It started when I had a personal trainer and the would charge my account 4 times in a month. I complained and got my money back. After put in my notice to cancel the training they still charged months later. I blocked them from taking money out of my account. I started paying me monthly dues in person and guess what the manager did this past week he took the $15.00 out when it was done in person and then made another $15.00 come out 3 days later. Now it's a fight again. All this happened at the Mira Loma location in CA.

  31. I just enrolled at a Fitness 19 in Shorewood, MN two months ago and this week they announced they are closing. I know they knew they were closing but they still took my fees for a full year anyway. Then when I heard rumors I confronted the workers who told me that of course they were not closing. I now find out they all knew. Where is the accountability for them and their dishonesty?

  32. I Go to the fitness 19 in Edmond, OK and I have to say the man (maybe head of the gym) Xavier that works there is horrible and a liar, he told me there was only on of the black friday coupons left to get the one dollar sign up fee and so i scheduled to sign up with my friend on friday, but thursday when my friend when to work out with his buddies the head of the gym told him there were three black friday coupons left and did not even have a good reason for wanting to sign my friend up that night without me. He is a horrible salesman and I did not feel a genuine care for my goals, I felt like i was being read a script. The staff is unprofessional and does not remember commitments made to certain customers, they even forgot to give us the free training (the one were the trainer is just supposed to go around the gym and show you how all the machines work) that we were supposed to get at first untill we said something, and they didn't even show us all the machines they just simply didn't make us pay for one of the trainings. -.- they say "welcome to the family" but it feels like anything but family over there. In fact I walked out the other day and smiled at the head of the gym and he just stared at me, with an annoyed expression on his face. According to the other complaints i've seen i guess fitness19 has a problem with hiring unprofessional idiots. If this doesn't get fixed I'm going to find somewhere else that actually gives a dang about my business.
