  1. It's not often that I tell people to steer clear of a business because of the ineptness of their customer service but this is definitely one of them. What is worse, I should have known. I looked around the internet and saw instance after instance of the poor customer service of TomTom. Get a Garmin!

I'm posting this anonymously because I am still in the middle of a very long drawn out attempt to obtain the service that I contracted for with TomTom.

    1. We should stop buying their product, there are a lot of complaints, I had problems with their customer service, plainly rude, won't give their names, I asked to talk to a supervisor, the same person came back, claiming she was a supervisor, and then she hung up. Typical Dutch arrogance (I'm Dutch" they sell garbage and don't stand behind their product.

    3. I totally agree as it looks when they can not solve a problem, they just hang up on the customer and I called and asked for a supervisor and again was denied this also and was rudely just hung up on!!!

    4. I thoroughly agree. This device is SUEABLE. I had a car accident from this incident and it costed me 3,000.00. I immediately got another GARMIN. This is a joke to humanity! I tried to talk to customer services and was hung up on. I then got harassed and she states,"I'm glad you were hung up on! Losers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I am having about the same problem. I purchased a map upgrade for my Tomtom XL330S and they sent me a download that damaged my device. My device came with USA & Canada maps software platform and they sent me USA/Canada/Puerto Rico map upgrade. They are not assuming any responsibility to repair or replace my device. They informed me, after paying and sending me the download I did not asked for, that, Tomtom was not issuing the USA & Canada upgrades, now they only issue the one they sent me. This is the most irresponsible way of treating a loyal customer. They only informed me my device was out of warranty and they could not do anything about the damage. My device was working in perfect conditions, but, I felt it needed a map upgrade after 4 years.

  3. After purchasing a new TomTom GO 720 from Sams in 2007 and having the battery fail abt month past the (1) year warranty and receiving no help from the company, I decided to take a chance and purchase a newer TomTom unit, a START 55TM, which also included free fuel prices, because the 720 had generally performed well (as long as it was plugged directly into a 12v feed). About 30 minutes ago, I got off the phone with an unhelpful phone rep, who indicated she was south of the lower 48 states, who didn't know the content of the email she had, 2-3 mins earlier, sent to me requesting START 55TM box photos and to which I immediately replied, attaching the requested photos, which clearly show "Free Fuel Prices" on the box rear/top/center. When she couldn't locate my REPLY email, she then stated that I had to "get on the website" in order to be able to attach the photos, even though her email clearly stated in the 3rd paragraph, that I COULD "REPLY" to that email.

Earlier in the call, per her request, I provided her the unit's serial number, which almost immediately enabled her to confirm my lifetime maps and traffic and, which, presumably, should have also enabled her to verify the unit was entitled to the fuel price info, given that the unit's serial number is also plainly adhered to the side of the box. It's truly sad that devices, which generally work quite well, are supported by such incompetence and indifference. I've posted this as Anonymous, because I don't want them to interrupt my unit's Maps/Traffic subscription.

    1. With regard to my post earlier this afternoon, in the spirit of fairness and full disclosure, I did receive a subsequent email, which advised that the fuel price info had been added to my account. I have downloaded/installed it and verified that it works!

  4. I purchased a GO2535TM on 18 March 2014. On the box it says "World Traveler Edition" and "Lifetime Traffic and Maps". I downloaded their software MyTomTom and installed it on my computer. I connected the GPS. Several updates were installed. Maps were updated. But not Europe. A message onscreen says that I have to pay for that. I called customer service. They confirmed that to update the maps of Europe will cost me $79.95. What? But on the box it says . . . Well, they don't want to hear about it. So this device is going to be returned and I will NEVER buy another TOmTom product because IMHO they are a bunch of f*cking liars. They can stick this where the sun don't shine. LIARS!

  6. Called the 866 number twice for customer service and got no help, the managers are always in a "meeting". Tried to call corporate and the voice mail says you are being connected, but the voice mail just plays over and over, SMH

    1. May I suggest a Garmin? They are a little more expensive but you do get Customer Service and a unit that works. I have owned Garmin products for over 20 years with no problem until I purchased a Tom Tom VIA 1500/1505 and all went doe the drain. To Date I have been hung up on over 4 times even when I asked to talk to a Supervisor!!!!

  8. Yes I agree with all of the above comments about Tom Tom, I call the tech support and the rope a dope begins. After many emails and phone calls about my issue they finally give me a lame excuse why they can't fix the problem. Then blow me off . All the time spent is good to eat up customer service time so they can justify their existence. Just Good job security for them. So at this point I do not know if there is anyway to get Tom Tom to honor their guarantee. Looks like the seller of the Tom Tom products will be the only way to get any replacements. Good luck with Tom Tom corporate. Very good products but a lousy company attitude.

    1. How to buy a Tom Tom. GO to the Tom Tom website and search out the product you are interested in read all the features and specifications. Then Go to Amazon.com or the Tom Tom factory outlet ( actually Tom Tom tech support says that they are not connected to the factory) and find the product. These two sellers have a money back 30 day guarantee. When you receive the product check it out thoroughly , if it does not perform as advertised on the tom tom website , SEND IT BACK under the 30 day guarantee. IF you keep it past the 30 day return guarantee you are stuck with it and out of luck Tom Tom tech support is a JOKE, you will spend your valuable time trying to get them to do something for you. Each time you call you will get a new reason why they can't honor their guarantee. SO the truth is that Tom Tom products are only good for a 30 day guarantee if the seller gives you one. I spent 6 months off and on trying to get them to correct their inaccurate advertising and replace the unit to no avail . THE other problem is that when you contact their tech support you have to try to understand the dialect of spoken English from India , not good.. They have made up so many excuses for why they can't honor their guarantee that you will be rope a doped to death. Save yourself the grief and buy a Garmin or do the 30 day guarantee with the seller.and take your chances. It's amazing that a big company like Tom Tom could have such a bad attitude and business plan. Believe me they do. I have NOT read a good review about their customer service anywhere.

  9. I agree with above comments - I too agree with 2/18 comment: Called the 866 number twice for customer service and got no help, the managers are always in a "meeting". Tried to call corporate and the voice mail says you are being connected, but the voice mail just plays over and over...My tomtom worked fine. I called support to help change my email and told them I needed to update. They said they could help and had me do things that I had never done before when updating. Now it doesn't work at all. Been dealing w/customer service since 9/12 and have wasted over 8 hrs. trying to fix what they screwed up. Cannot get a mgr nor answer at corp. HQ. Worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I was in customer service for 30 yrs and always believed "Service Sells"...will never buy a tomtom product and for sure will let others know how badly customers are treated.
