  1. I have promotional overload. And the fact that a lot of them are not honored. But at least Von's customer service people on the phone are professional. I feel sorry for the frontline of Von's. The second time the error was 17.00 - from what I could figure out from their confusing receipts. The first time I tried, my card was not in the system - for the new discount program. I have just been eating the difference, but today, the chips were not 2.50 at promotional price, but full price (3.79), so I told the checker to skip the chips.
I cannot wait for the Walmart to be built. My sister lives in Burbank, and my brother in the town between. And CostCo is the next town over. And Gelson's is a few blocks from me for produce, if I miss Saturday's farmer's market.

Tags on every item, alledgedly at a discount. And the newspaper printed promos. And now the three different promos online. And then, on top of that, to have to choose between holding up the line while figuring out which "deals" have not been honored, while the people behind you grumble and sigh, and then try to get the checker to honor the "deals" or just paying more than you expected - or not buying the items . Pleasant shopping experience.

  3. I totall agree with the orinal poster. I've had it with Von's. It's too confusing and annoying to shop there now. "Promotional Overload" is a perfect way to describe it. When you can't even look at a shelf tag to know the price os something it makes for a horrible shopping experience.

I'm treating Von's like a convenience store now. I do my main shopping else and only run into Von's if I need to grab a quick item and it's on the way.

The marketing people may think they're pleasing their customers with all the choices for discounts and instead all their promotions are driving some people away.

  4. I just got home from one of the two local Von's stores in this area. I brought home four ears of white corn priced at 25 cents each, so the signs said. The four ears were packed in a tray with cellophane wrap. When I got home and looked at the receipt, it read I had paid 2.99 for the four ears. There was no price on the wrapping. They were displayed right under the sign. I will be going back shortly to get a refund and to talk to the manager about their display practices. I intend to contact the Von's corporate office with this as well. I rarely shop at Von any longer because of deceptive display practices such as this. Believe me, with Stater Bros. you don't get this kind of baloney. So I get to learn one more time about paying closer attention to the displays, though the customer should not have to do this. One more lesson, eh?

    1. Yes u should pay attention to what u buy who buys four ears of corn for 25 each really the wrap cost more then 25 let's see a bin of corn Yeah sir look again

  5. Just returned from Von's. Manager refunded the difference on ears of corn mentioned in last "comment." I did check the display and there was a small sticker under the sale sign noting the packaged ears were not priced the same as the others. Sorry, but the big sign caught my eye, as it is supposed to, but all that was displayed was corn, packaged or not. I intend to write the corporate office about this anyway. Shopping with plastic cards for discounts and tracking don't bode well with me. I intend to shop Stater Bros., as it doesn't deal with any of the other nonsense.

  6. I think the gas station in pacific beach is the worst. Not only are the staff rude and degrading to local customers they are the pregidous and say disgusting things to wmen. ESPECIALLY ONE STAFF MEMMBER IN PARTICULAR THAT MUST GET PAID ON THE SIDE TO BE EXTERMLY DEGRADING AND RUDE TO PEOPLE HIS FRIENDS DONT LIKE. I WILL NEVER BUY GAS FROM THAT COMPANY NOR SHOP AT THE GROCERY STORES. I HAVE LIVED IN THIS TOWN MY WHOLE LIFE AND WILL SEE TO IT THAT THIS EMPLOYEE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO TALK TO PEOPLE LIKE THIS PERSON DOES. HE MUST OF SLEPT WITH THE WRONG PERSON TO GET WHERE HE IS AT. NOT MY PROBLEM, I ONLY NEEDED GAS, NOT THE POLITICAL PROPAGANDA YOU THRIVE ON, ITS A CITY OF EASY GOING BEACH CROWDS, WHO CARES WHO YOU GOT DRUNK WITH

  7. I just got home from the Von's in Las Vegas on Twain and Maryland Parkway. A Cashier by the name of Miranda was in the back smoking marijuana and making out with one of the stockboys. I guess the manager allows this type of behavior.
No wonder why they have so much criminal activity at this particular Von's, most of it is obviusly caused by the employees.

  8. I shop at that same Von's in Las Vegas on Twain and Maryland. They really should close this store down. I am personally going to go to a Clark County Commision hearing and ask it to be investigated. There are always panhandlers and drug addicts outside and inside there is an excessive amount of shop lifters. The police are called to that location an unacceptable amount of time a month. Today I witnessed 2 seperate arrests in front of the store within 30 minutes of each other. A few months ago my car was broken into while I was inside shopping. They have Security officers that are required to wear $250 blazers ( they look like they are worth $25.Who is getting a kickback there?) when they should be wearing combat gear. Considering the amount of danger they are exposed to they are extremely underpaid. A license to do business is a priviledge not a right. This store is perpetuating a hot bed of criminal activity and should have that priviledge taken away.

  9. I am an Elite Customer for vons in La Crescenta,Ca
i have written many complaints on the suggestion or comments card and personally have talked to store manager jorge
i do not think it has been to your attention that this vons has very poor management.
today when i came in the store the manager was talking to an employee very rude, by the front of the store.
i have been coming to this vons for many years and i am there on almost an everyday basis.
since your corporate managament has changed the store manager, the vibe in the store is awfull
many employees complain how this store is run downed by him and he is unfair to his employees working them double what they are paid for and i would suggest that this should be immediate attention of considering changing the manager.
never enough check stands open mostly one or two checkers are open on rush hour with long lines. they call thier manager for help never does he come.
before when this store was under the management by other managers and also joe jessick never did i ever feel this awful vibe and employees were happy and the help was there.
Due to these occasions i have been considering changing my grocery store of almost everyday to a ralphs due to the management that runs this store if these issues are not resolved i will be considering my decision if i do not see a change or improvement.

  13. I've been a regular shopper at vons for 8 years, spending about $800.00 a week there. Recently they billed my checking account (I use debit to make my purchases) double for my bill, almost $200.00 and when I showed them they refused to refund the money, even after I brought it to the attention of their corporate office. Clearly they don't care about my business, in spite of the fact that I've been a loyal customer for so long. Too bad, that $200.00 is now costing them $9600.00 a year! What a bad mistake on their part.

  15. I am a avid customer of Von's in Glendale on Los Feliz Blv., as well as Von's in Pasadena on Orange Grove Blv. On, Sat. Dec. 29th, I was in the Los Feliz store, and I noticed that there was sign that stated that anyone could turn in their unused gift cards for cash. I proceeded to ask a lady at the custoner service desk how to go about exchanging my giftcard. She stated that the person who does the gift cards would be in on Sunday, Dec. 30, between 9-12. I returned to the store at 11:30 am, and was told to go to the cashier on isle 5. The cashiers name was Kim, and she stated " I don't have the pass word, so you have to come back tomorrow", very rudely I might add. I then requested to speak to the manager by the name of Carl. While I was waiting for the manager to come out, Kim motioned me over to her station, and stated that Carl just called her on the phone, and said that their system was down until the first of the year. I asked Kim was Carl going to come out and speak to me? She said "no", that he just called her, and related the message. As a customer, I was very disgusted by the way the situation was handled. The manager should have come out and addressed the matter, but instead he chose not come out at all.. This is very poor customer service, and I will be contacting the corporate office to make a complaint.

  16. I am a resident of San Diego, retired and do 90% of the grocery shopping. My wife and I don't eat beef, we do however, eat chicken and pork. While at our local Vons Store (Black Mountain Store) I continually check for ground pork. THEY NEVER HAVE fresh ground pork! They have "Farmer John" ground pork and turkey......pork @ $5.49/pound. I asked an employee of the meat department why it was +$2.00 per pound over ground beef.....I asked if it was because they didn't want to clean the meat grinder and he simply smiled and said I should check the price of Milk!!!!! We have a very special friend who is in the supermarket meat business and he says "They simply DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR the cleaning of the machinery" It appears they sell more meat than pork so the amount of scrap is far less, consequently, NO GROUND PORK! Instead of all those ridiculous YELLOW Super Saver Signs all over the place why don't they discontinue posting them and pass the savings on printing and posting to the customers??

  17. I go to Vons mainly for their $5 Friday deals but let me tell you that I don't enjoy shopping there whatsoever. The cashiers are alwyas rude, always! As well as the managers. Every woman seems to be going through menopause. They are so rude and give me dirty looks when I use my coupons. I feel like I'm not wanted shopping at Vons and honestly don't want to come back. I live in Lake Elsinore,California and I am talking about the Vons which Manager Sheryl Newcomer works at. These workers must hate their jobs to treat customers so darn poorly. They all need a reality check and should keep their personal attitudes for themselves and save it for after work.

  18. ive been shopping at vons at 3610 adams ave in normal heights for over two years now and aside from one or two rude employees (when i found i had been overcharged)it has been a pleasant experience shopping there until recently when i complained about the recycling dept, the manager eric abrahamson was rude and insulting and since then it has gotten worse. first of all the scale at the recycling center is off by 20% in favor of vons yes i returned my water bottles that i purchased at vons 5.oo dollars worth and was paid 4.10 thats 20% in there favor meaning i was cheated and customers are being cheated every day at vons. i know .90c is not much but lets say they take in 1,000 a day in recycling and pay out 800 dollars after they skim 20% thats 200 per day still not alot but in 10 days thats 2000 dollars and in one month its 6000 dollars. thats just a guess at how much they take in but 20% profit is still 20% and people that care about recycling and our planet are being cheated and the manager at vons abrahamsen says he dosnt care and that its not his problem. and btw the place stinks to high heaven which indicates the presence of bacteria and the containers that customers are required to use are filthy and disgusting which makes the place a health hazard of which the manager also doesnt care. so two violations one with the department of weights and measures one with the health dept. and btw vons is required by state law to accept your recycling in return for having the privileage of making a ton of money selling you all those beverages in the first place. so i brought this to the managers attention and he was rude and dismissive told me it wasnt his problem so i called customer service and told them they tried to mitigate the problem and patronize me. and so i left it at that now after two years of shopping at the store and bring my knapsack to carry my groceries home in i was told rudely by a checker that i wasnt allowed in the store with my knapsack and to leave it on the front desk, which i did. but then i asked him why and he got rude and looked away and just shook his head. i asked him again and he told me he doesnt have to tell me why and he doesnt have to serve me and TOLD me to leave the store which i did but not until i asked him his name and refused to give me his name. which only leaves me with the option of providing you with his discription. he was a black male about 5'6 or less he was overweight he had short hair and a very bad attitude which he probably got from the managers example (sorry but he could have just givin me his name o but then he would be accountable for his actions oh well i guess thats how they do it at vons) ive never been asked not to shop with out my knapsack and have seen other ppl with knapsacks shopping bags oversized purses and never have i seen anyone asked to leave there bag at the front of the store while they shop. i find it insulting to be asked to leave my knapsack at the front of the store. and if this is going to be a vons policy it needs to be posted and applied to everyone otherwise its the very definition of discrimination. nice going vons. violating weights and measures laws health code laws recycling laws and responsibilities and now harassment and discrimination. i guess vons and its employees can do what ever they want and if you dont like it, youll have to LEAVE THE STORE! guess now all i can do is write a letter to the ceo but customer service doesnt know the name of the ceo or his correct address maybe thats the real problem o well i just google that and while im at it google the dept of weights and measures, the department of health and who ever is in charge of discrimination oh and why is it the price error is always in favor of vons ill have to check into that too. there must be a dept for that. one thing i wont be doing is going to vons to spend my money and be insulted again.

  19. Vons in Scripps Ranch - Scripps Poway Parkway location has a manager named "Noberto" who is the most RUDE person I have ever encountered. He has ZERO people skills, speaks rudely to employees in front of customers, reprimands employees in front of customers AND other employees. Perhaps something could be done about him? Until he is transferred or fired, I plan to boycott Vons altogether and will let others in my immediate neighborhood know of my disgust. We DO have MANY other stores to shop at and I, for one, will not support a store with that caliber of management. It is shameful.

  21. Yesterday in the Granada Hills CA Vons, my 88 yr. old mother had her purse stolen in the store. Management and clerks were insensitive, and I was shocked to learn that store policy does not include a call to the Police in such an event. I am sure that Police would be called if someone lifted a bag of potato chips...There was no offer of privacy for my distraught mother, indeed the clerk asked her how she was going to pay for her groceries! I plan to pursue legal action, and I plan to get this incident addressed in the LA Times.

  23. Vons is like most places that sell gasoline, where paying at the pump is an enormous frustration if you are from Canada. After you've inserted and removed your credit card, you're asked to enter your zip code, which Canadians don't have. And using the three numbers from your Postal Code plus two zeros doesn't work. So, you end up going to the cashier and prepaying, which requires guess work if you want a fill. I just don't understand why with the large number of Canadians (in the millions) who visit the U.S. every year they haven't come up with a way to allow us to use our credit cards at the pump.

    1. I know how you feel. I just shop in Von today,Friday,Mar 29,2013 at 1210hrs. They had a few great deals for being Friday. As a average Joe shopper? I saw a display for $ 5.00 and my wife thougth that everthing was the same price. When we were ready to pay it I notice the cash register read out $ 8.99 for the chicken. I informed the manager and he took off the sign due to being deceptive. Als,o the soda were false adervistment? Why is the store manger attempting to steal a few dimes and nickles for the company to make a profit? When the store makes a mistake they should give it the lower prices to the customer? The cashier stated I would feel the same thing due to placing that display on the cart and complain about it?

  27. you corporate people at vons better wake up and read these valid complaints. I am the squeaky wheel that will get oiled because at the 2 von's stores I shop at I make these people do their job and will not leave until I get my refunds on register errors. this happens each and every time I go in there especially since they've rolled out this "just4u" program. I don't waste my time with the clerks anymore. I call the mgr. or the asst mgr. to handle it. I don't want a Band-Aid solution by just giving me my refund---you need to find out why the data input is continually full of errors; hence the wrong prices that get rung up. it's very frustrating shopping at vons but I keep coming back because of the good deals. some of your $5 Friday specials are not so special if you know your prices though. I do a lot of homework before I go to the market(s), and I shop all of them.
and as for as all of your rude employees that keep getting mentioned in these reviews; it's time for corporate to either straighten them out or get rid of them. there's plenty of other people who need a job.

    ReplyDelete
  28. just when I thought the frustration level couldn't get much worse shopping at vons, NOW the brilliant "think tank" at corporate has decided to change the way the receipt reads. truthfully, what is wrong with you people?? just last week you could follow the receipt with your club discounts/coupons/just4u all grouped together. the wrong prices could be easily located making it faster to point out to the "powers that be" that a refund was required.
tonight I went into the moorpark vons to find that many of the discounts are now being printed at the bottom of the receipt. it is very hard to follow because many of the discounts have no description next to them nor do the coupons I handed to the original checker. you don't know what is what. I had the asst. mgr. open up a check stand and re-ring each item and try and explain this confusing and stupid system. of course there were errors that resulted in me over paying. the original checker walked by and said "everything is messed up since corporate decided to change things". this was a colossal waste of my time. you're also paying 2 people to do one job.
I don't know if anyone reads these reviews but you better start. it's way too much work to shop at vons anymore.

    1. You got ripped - Pay attention to the specials online and/or at other Vons stores and call them on it when they illegitimately manipulate their pricing. They've been messing with the price of Ben & Jerry's ice cream over here at the Maryland/Twain Vons all week. The online ad says 2 for $5.00, but when you go in it switches around daily between 2/$5 and 2/$7. The online ad for the store (and all other stores, actually) states it's 2/$5, valid 8/21 to 8/27. I told their Mgr. about it and he claimed he was going to straighten it out with his "scan supervisor", but it keeps on changing. It's bullshit.

Von's in Sylmar Ca. laugh at a lady (by the cashier and Manager) for presenting a Matricula Consular which is a valid ID. to get back money for a mistake they did. Mistake was done one day and they had her come back till the next to get her money back. This is not right and when the daughter stepped up for her mother the police was called in. Why??? The police should have been called in when the cashier didn't want to give the lady the right money back. I really hope corporate does something about this and maybe have their cashiers and managers get retrained for proper customer service.

I am so discussed with Von (in Los Alamitos) when I went to your store today the change machine was not working and did not give me my change I informed the employee at the register and what they did next was the part that discussed me did they take it out of the till no......... they opened (with a key) the money box in which people donate money to charities and took it from there in which I might add right in front of my 4 year old son that had just put his change in there! When I asked them why they did that that money was not there's to use they said whats wrong with it we will put it back later. When I asked to speak to the manager he was the man standing right next to me when the employee did this. He seemed irritated that I had an issue with it. I have placed a call to the corp office and in hopes that they will make sure this will not happen again but we will see if I get a call if not I will get the phone number to the charity notify them then call the local paper and/or news. 36. Employee (Pat) refused me service at Vons Gas because of service animal. Employee was shown the animals NSAR registration card more than once. Employee still chose to harass customer and would not take money for gas. I called the manager of that area vons. He said he would be down in 5 min. and that service animal with registration card not an issue. 25min later he said he sent the field manager for the gas station to talk to employee. I was waiting in front of the door to the station with my animal when she walked into the station without acknowledging me. I went inside again to pay for my gas. The employee was no longer there. Now the field manager for the gas station was behind the register. I asked her why didn't she acknowledge me when she came in when I was clearly the customer with the animal. she was fixed with an attitude, abrupt and condescending. It was 40 minutes since I had first come in to pay for my gas. I have never experienced such disconcerting behavior by a person hired to a service position. It is illegal to refuse service to a patron with a service animal. These two employees did not have a clue what laws governed the situation nor did they care, they were on a mission to ruin my day because they could. The poor animal is always perky, bright eyed and happy to please. Vons employees could learn from this little fella, might even enjoy the change. I know I would, geez.

  37. First of all let me say how wonderful it is that Vons hires special needs people. It warms my heart to see these people working and so proud be be doing a good job. However, I have seen an employee named Carlos be rude to customers and yell at a special needs employee more than one time. The boy looked very embarrassed and sad when I spoke to him after the incident. He shed a few tears. I think there needs to be some sensitivity training done at the Vons on Balboa. Overall, most of the employees seem very nice especially the manager, Kelly. I have shopped at this Balboa / Genesee vons for 27 years and would like to remain anonymous at the moment but would appreciate this matter to be dealt with as soon as possible. The Girard Vons in La Jolla is exceptional to their special needs employees. I have observed this over the years and think they are to be commended for their patience and warmth.

  38. I was behind a disabled woman in wheelchair today who was treated abusively by cashier at Vons Scripps Poway Parkway. The cashier was incredibly rude and actually THREW each item of the customers food while checking her out food damaging some (crushing rolls with cans etc..) All of this rudeness was apparently because the disabled woman needed to leave a basket at the next register because she couldn't carry it all and this witchy young cashier had to walk over and get a small basket from the closed register right next to her. Astonishingly appalling. The disabled woman left in tears with much of her Thanksgiving items damaged. I won't be shopping at this store again. Many people witnessed this and were all in shock at this public temper tantrum.

  39. I was a loyal customer at Von's for many yrs. until I went in there with my daughters WIC coupons
And had the checker make a derogatory comment to me. I was shocked and could not respond to her
After I got home the anger hit me hard. How dare she judge my daughter whom she has never met.
My daughter has been with her boyfriend for five yrs. he works 12 hr. shifts sometimes seven days a week.
Who is she to say whether they have a right to start a family. I know one customer lost is no big deal to the store
But I need u to know why I will never shop at UR store again. And I need to bring peace to myself for not standing
Up for my daughter at that time.

THANK YOU....Aare words like I love you, never could be said enough, but I want to thank you for having her on you staff.
    Sincerely the best,
    Chinyem

  45. Von's Store #2121, Vista, CA. T he store manager, Andy, came out to my vehicle personally, after assisting my sons in exchanging their recycling for cub scouts camp $. First, the store clerk turned my sons away, referring to their "50 bottles per person" limit. The boys recycled their allotted amount, & returned to the car, pretty bummed out. I called in & spoke to Andy, who then asked if we would be willing to come back in, so he could personally assist them for their fundraiser. Not only that, but he came out to the car where I was waiting, (my older son is 15 & was helping his little brother inside), introduced himself, & shook my hand. He hoped I understood that the clerk was new, & that they are doing their best to discourage the transient activity that the recycling center brings- oftentimes there are situations that arise from the local homeless population being under the influence & causing disruptions, hence the policy being created. I completely understood, & thanked him for the changes he has made :-) Calling corporate tomorrow. Happy Mama=more $ spent there :-)

  46. Wow, and I thought I was the only one who dislikes Vons.... Currently they are selling recalled almond butter, the management is clueless, as is corporate.... They told me the almond butter is not recalled, as did corporate, when I called the manufacturer they said yes the item you have is recalled.... And should be pulled from the shelves.... Vons RanchoVista Palmdale. I could go on about the rudeness of the manager, Tony, and certain employees, over charging, open items, etc... Seems to all be here... Btw, when I was handicapped because of arm surgery I was refused any help, (bagging) even after speaking with Tony the manager, because I was male, and didn't "look" handicapped, (no use of my right arm). Even after showing him my receipts, (200@week), and scars, lol.... I said I was going to shop at Traders.... He put his arm on my injured shoulder and said "good luck"... Such compassion! This place is for women, (housewifes) only! They live you and will bend over backwards... But for olders divorced, single, handicapped males, STAY AWAY!

  47. You advertise online a FREE Dove White Bar Soap - Trial Size 2.6 oz. which expires 8/26.
I went to two Von's stores and they don't carry Trial Size anything.
Why would you do that? Offer something that all Von's stores carry. I was told by the cashier that the recently closed Pavillion's on Ventura in Woodland Hills would've had it. Does that make sense to you?

  48. I have been going shopping at Vons for more than 12 years and I used to love the store in Tarzana, CA,but the staff has changed over the years. Because I had some awful experiences at Vons repeatedly,I switched to Pavillions in Woodland Hills, but they now closed their store, which is very unfortunate . The staff at Pavillions, especially the young manager there, were always friendly and accommodating. Quite often I had to go back there because their promotion didn't work as advertised,or the Just for you coupon didn't deduct properly, but they always fixed it without giving me any hassle,as long as I had the reseat. Now recently, I had to go back to Vons because it's closest to me ,but again and again I had awful experiences with the staff and the new manager there. They were extremely rude, when I tried to return a product that they overcharged me more than 5 $ and then after I had already paid for all my groceries, but they made me go back in a long line to return this one item because the manager decided to go on break. Now, I buy very few necessary things there because I don't want to run into the same problem anymore. When they overcharge you there, they treat you like you are at fault and they talk down to you, like you are not worth their time. The last time I was there, I was so irritated because I had to repeatably request my reseat. The new Hispanic manager ignored my request to double check if all the coupons rang off. He turned his back on me ,while I was trying to request my reseat because he was too busy chatting with other staff members about where to grab dinner. I had to ask him several times for the reseat, before he turned around to give it to me. The other staff m seemed to kiss up to him and he really enjoyed his little power-trip. It definitely feels like they all cover for each other .Besides that I noticed that other customers just completely have blown up in this particular Vons. On several occasions, I 've witnessed customers throwing a fit. Once again, the manager would step in and defend the cashier,no matter how rude they were to that customer. I don't agree with how the customer threw a fit or with the language he used, but the manager should at least be a little bit understanding towards the customer. I have never seen customers flip out like that repeatedly, only at this Vons.To me it is a sign that the staff needs to improve their work attitude. Maybe, something has changed that makes the staff miserable ,but it doesn't give them the right to take it out on their customers.
