    1. LA Fitness in Fort Myers FL is the worst gym on the planet -period!! The mental midget running the place is an absolute idiot! It’s southwest FLA. and its hot and humid here the majority of the year. The spin room A/C has been out for weeks now! It breaks every summer and idiots can never fix it- totally unacceptable for a business which clients pay monthly dues. The stupid pencil neck that runs the joint won’t even let us have a fan in the room for Christ sake! Bathrooms are filthy, smell like total ass and the clock in the sauna of a spin room stopped working. Large groups work out in the AM and need to get to work on time, hey there’s simple concept. The clock was reported last week, probably a dead triple AAA battery, easy fix you think, and nope, they just remove the clock! Total lunacy!!!

There’s a large group who has had enough and will be moving to another gym! Enough is enough with this place!

    2. Sorry but, I have to disagree with comment published Aug. 14, 2012. You cannot have the worst LA Fitness gym on the planet... I DO! LA Fitness bought, Lifestyle Family Fitness, in Naples, FL on Golden Gate Blvd. and the ruined it. THE A/C HAS BEEN BROKEN IN THE CLASSROOM FOR A LOOONG TIME HERE TOO! They got rid of most of the friendly employees and their Les Mills classes and all of the certified trainers for them. Now, their classes are AWFUL. Everybody is jumping ship.

The only good thing left about that gym is their Zumba program

    3. Beware of any members with addons, I recently have some charges for a personal trainer from one of my add-on members without my concent. LA Fitness now claims that they are authorized. Read on EFT/CC REQUEST section 5. In which clearly states that they will not charge unless the primary instruct to do so. LA Fitness is now playing dumb and want to steal my money. This is a total rip-off

    4. I go to West Miami LA Fitneess, this WAS a brand new Gym. I have pictures, all the equipment is dirtty, rusted, batroom mold, 2 of the 3 urinals are out. The door for the sauna has not closed properly for 1 year, the place is full at all hrs so its not lack of funds. To use the weight equip. you always have to wait.

    6. I've been a member for 2 years and tried to make an online prepayment. The payment did not go through and I recieved a system error message from the L.A. Fitness website. I called the gym to see what was going on and they said my card had been rejected. I checked my balance online (knowing that they were wrong) only to find out that the monthly fee was taken out four times!! My bank can not do any thing because the charges are pending and have been this way for a week. So, not only did I not get to pre-pay on my account, my credit card balance is being held in limbo because L.A. Fitness refuses to do anything about the situation.

    7. Well LA Fitness just purchase Urban Active gyms in Columbus Ohio about a month or so ago. Now all urinals in the mens locker room has been broken for weeks and the place looks terrible. Sounds like we need to look for an alternative to LA Fitness. Lifetime is an awesome gym here in Ohio.

    8. You have got to wake up and pay attention to this business. I read with interest some of the criticisms of your clubs throughout the US and there are common themes. Whether its cleanliness, a simple fix of a clock not working, billing issues, or heat / AC problems. These criticisms could not be better stated if I sat here and penned them as I’ve experienced with the operation in South Windsor. It is filthy and frankly not sanitary. When the soap dispensers in the men’s locker room go empty, if even for one hour, no one can properly clean themselves. Additionally, there is a chronic lack of paper towels and the chronic loss of hot water. The hot water is out again and if this is a sequel to the last, recent episode it will take a week to repair. We’re talking HOT water in the middle of winter on the East coast! Three weeks to change a clock battery…ridiculous, but benign. Hot water…seriously.

I attend, every day, your club in South Windsor, CT and have personally witnessed the meteoric rise in club members and I am now witnessing the precipitous loss of many familiar faces as they abandon your club. It’s sad and disturbing, since ostensibly your corporation is oblivious to obvious. Someone in your group has lost focus or somehow contaminated your corporate fiber. Whatever it is, you should figure out, it will cripple if not close your company.

    9. Don't waste your money in this club. Joined a new club in Windermere,fl. The signed up the whole family. 5 people and paid extra for our son to bring a friend. My son brought his girl friend and was giving her advice on her work out and he was acused of training her and was threatend by the training director to cancel his guest pass membership. This club was the signature club and paid a premium to belong. My son is african american and they even questioned that he was our son. I have never been so insulted. I am rejoining the YMCA. I will also be calling the corporate office.

    10. I go to 4 different clubs between my house and work. They all are becoming rundown and gross. The floors where the classes are held show OLD sweat spots, there is ALWAYS at least one piece of equipment broken and a lot of the time th AC doesn't work properly. And we are in HOUSTON where it's 75 on a winter day, much less 100 in the summer. They are convenient to me, and no competition, but it there was I know at least 2 dozen of us who would be out the door. The mgmt. doesn't care. I recently visited a new club they opened and the equipment is of course wonderful. Too bad they can't see fit to replace old equipment that is broken and slowly phase in new equipment at the older clubs. Advice DON'T JOIN UNLESS IT'S THE ONLY CLUB AROUND

    11. New Gym in Jacksonville Florida is by far the worst run business (let alone the worst gym) I have ever been to. I signed up my wife and 4 year old to day care. They never told me day care was only open 8am-12 noon. My wife went for her first visit as she signed up for a tour.
When they got there they said the guy she spoke with was new and never made an appointment. She felt the girls behind the desk didn't care about her situation. I called there later that evening and the "membership" person cut me off half way through and told me it didn't happen the way my wife said. I said "are you calling my wife a liar?" She then said "hold please" and a guy picked up 3 1/2 minutes later and said "hello". I said "who is this" he said Chris, I said "I was speaking to a lady". He then responded I am the General Manager can I help you. So I explained my issue to him as well, (the 3rd person).
I was trying to cancel my membership based on the fact the day care was not open during the times my wife would like to work out. Needless to say, he was very defensive and explained my contract to me. I called the corporate office and the "manager in charge" told me there is nothing they could do but credit my $10.00 per month fee for Daycare.
This company will loose much more money than the $170.00 I paid them. I am now going to be a HUGE P.I.A. to this company and tell everyone I know......DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM ANYWHERE!!!

I have been a member at your gym at Lake Success in New York almost 6 years now.Me and a big group of racquetball players use the courts at the weekend mostly and to our disappointment a lot of times the courts get wet from the humidity,in result to waste the day of working out.For a corporation that big and for a gym that big it should be a better way of handling the temperature.there is no way to take 4 days to fix a temperature if it has to be done locally or through corporate. We like this gym and we like to stay here,it is up to you to keep us.BILL

    1. I am reading all the negative comments on this site and am increasingly distressed. Everything you are saying seems to be true of the LA Fitness brand. They have recently purchased LifeStyle Family Fitness where I work out in Orlando and I can see the handwriting on the wall. LFF in Hunter's Creek has been a real community gym with Les Mills elite programs, Zumba, Silver Sneakers and a very active teen program. Our instructors are the best I have ever worked with. Now all that is going away. Worst of all, LA Fitness clearly has no respect for its members as they have not made a formal announcement but programs have already been cut and the Fitness Director has been fired. What a terrible corporation. Shame on them. I certainly do not plant to maintain my membership with them.

  3. I am a member of you havertown pa location. I'm not sure if you drug test your employees but you should know that your trainers sell and use drugs while "working" with their clients. not only that but they sleep with their clients and cross lines that shouldn't be crossed. they openly talk about it as if it is a requirement to be hired. your managers find the situation pretty humorous too and stick up for them when their behavior is in inappropriate and unprofessional. to pay the amount of money that it costs to be a member here and after being harrassed into the training contract you would think you'd have smarter people working for you. it is a disgrace and embarassment to have signed up for this gym and look at your workers everyday when trying to be healthy and get a workout not a venereal disease

    4. The cost for a training contract (at least for me) was 360 a month for 12 25 min sessions per month. I was totally hustled when I joined the club to sign up for a training contract. I knew I couldn't afford it, as I had just purchased a house, am single and have a mortgage, but I was hustled so easily, that now it makes me sick. I was also promised (I should have known better) that if after 6 months if I am still struggling financially, I could discontinue the training. I tried and was told sorry, you signed a yearly contract, "you are screwed". It would cost me 800 penalty fee to stop. I would definitely not recommend this.

      Delete
    5. I am in the exact same situation! I was hustled by a pushy sales woman who gave me nothing but lies. At the time I could more than afford the training and then I was laid off from my job. I was told when I signed the contract that I could freeze my account. Big shock, now they no longer offer that and I will have to pay $800 to be released from the contract. I am at the point of cancelling my bank account and paying them what I can a month until the debt is paid off. I love my trainer, hate LA Fitness!

      Delete
    6. I am in the same situation also in Phoenix, AZ...I specifically asked when I signed up whether or not someone could cancel a training contract if you suffer an injury and have to stop working out. I was told that the gym wouldn't hold someone to a contract if they were injured because it wouldn't be in the best interests of the gym, or the client....now I've got a torn rotator (didn't do that at the gym) and can't work out upper body which is the main reason I looked into a trainer....which is very disappointing...I am trying to get out of the contract but am told you have to be disabled to get out of the contract....

      Delete
    7. Yes,you get the best service when you sign up, but after that the customer service stinks. It is crazy trying to get out of a training contract. I am just going to pay the 50% and be done with LA Fitness. This is a mis managed company and I believe it has to be from the corporate office down. Once I'm done with LA Fitness, I will not be going back to them.

  4. It is sad that there is so much crime at the la fitness gyms in florida, particularily in Orlando at the 4 to 5 clubs. For quite some time, my wife and I as well as others would always see police in the parking lots writing burglary reports for cars being broken into. Also, theft is a common regularity inside the club. The club does have fliers addressing crime watch, however it has been reported that some criminals have been daring enough to bring small bolt cutters to break into lockers and steals purses and wallets. The thiefs know that people do lock belongings in their car so they teal the car keys out of the la fitness gym lockers. From there they go to the parking lot with the keys ad use the remote car ket to locate the car and teal the belongings hidden in the car, wallets, purses, phones, cash, credits etc. At that point I imagin peoples identity are stolen while more theft nd fraud occurs. Why can't La Fitness install video cameras in the common areas of the club and the property owner have cameras recording crime such as muggings, car break ins and so on. I know clubs in California and Nevada that have video cameras to protect the club staff and members. There has been crime recorded in the past in clubs helping catch the criminals. I know because of privacy issues cameras cannot be installed in locker rooms. It is sad that many of the staff and managers show no care or concern for the break ins in the lockers at the clubs. If people showed more care and concern for others and themselves maybe businesses would be more enjoyable and safer to frequent. It is bad enough there is a lot of crime, however it is even more disheartening when some of these issues could be resolved but are not.

Your new GYM (southside Tucson, AZ) STARTED off good, but has taken a turn for the worse and today over 500 of my friends found out via Facebook.

I have asked 3 different people for HOT WATER in the bathrooms, try shaving with Cold water. Nothing yet! It is sad when i have to wake up and shave at home before i go to the gym.

Today at 0815 the bathrooms looked as if there were drunken men partying all night, urine smell and urine all over both toilets.

Then the sign of no paper towels till the following week, unacceptable!

  6. whomever is handling the PR for the transition of Bally's buyout, needs to be replaced. The whole process from start to finish was the most insensitive(too many to list) that someone should definitely file a class-action suit. I'm Korean, and I found out that the founder of this company is Korean. Korean people do not operate business this way. They are more accommodating and respectful to their customers. My only guess is that some uneducated Neanderthal climbed the corporate ladder who has no sensitivity or respect for people in general. I was told by coporate office, "too bad", as I had a gym available "close by". Which is 25 minutes from my house and 45 minutes from my work.

card information and said yes. Then the next month they billed me again...7 months later I am
still dealing with them! She went back and looked the trainer right in the face and said you lied to me! He then changed it to a 3 month contract instead of a 13 month, which she never even knew it was 13 because he told her it was one month! Now they are still running my card, when I called them they told me to go after my daughter for criminal charges for using my card without my permission, sickening! I told them they were the criminal. This place is beyond crooked, I would never recommend anyone to go to that place! 8. I work out at the newly purchased facility in Hollywood, on El Centro. It has become increasingly disgusting and dirty since L.A. Fitness took over, particularly on the weekends. Passing by the gym earlier this week, I saw something that exemplifies its condition: a homeless encampment was set up outside one of the emergency exits--a cardboard box shelter, a stack of dirty blankets, and a shopping cart full of belongings. The sides of the building are more often then not occupied by homeless street kids doing drugs; I'm not talking about the street area, but actual club property.

The mens' locker room is unsanitary and filthy: there is no cleaning crew on the weekends--the busiest time of the week! If trash is thrown on the floor anywhere in the gym, it stays there from Friday night until Monday! There's piss all over the floor; the urinals are filled with trash, gum, wrappers, anything that people decide to throw in there. The piss from the bathroom is then tracked into the gym area; the floors of the gym and the stairwells (where trash is often thrown) are filthy, with huge dust balls surrounding the equipment. The rug in the stretching area is filthy--considering what I see tracked on the floor, I wouldn't lay down on that rug to stretch. The equipment is breaking, and whereas in the past we could depend on it being fixed, it now appears to stay that way indefinitely, as there is no staff to even put up an "out of order" sign, which suggests that no one is paying attention and no one cares. Today, the eliptical machine I used had a huge wad of gum that had been ground into the foot pedal. I know this will be there tomorrow, next week, and probably a month from now. I never see cleaning crew on the floor or in the locker room.

The lockers are filthy, and many of them are broken. The cardio bikes are being fixed with gaffers tape. There is graffiti in the mens room and in the locker room--and it just stays there.

It's not at all surprising that their facilities have been shut down by the health department:

    http://triblocal.com/morton-grove/2012/02/23/la-fitness-shut-down-for-sanitary-reasons/

    1. WOW, at least your membership will cancel soon. I have lifetime membership with Bally's now LA Fitness and constantly consider cancelling it and joining another gym. I originally joined the Bally's on L street, but moved near Hampton Mall and have been using that one for over 10 years now.

My problem is they never turn the air on. I'm constantly told that it's not working, it was turned off because it got too cold or it's on, but I just don't feel the air. I'm sad to say this has been going on for the 10 years I've been going there and I have been miserable. I can bearly breathe and have to cut my routine short because of the heat. I cannot understand why these employees subject our well-being to this discomfort because it's too cold for them. They are not the people in there exercising and creating all this heat with other people exercising as well.

Hopefully something drastic will happen and that customer will put LA Fitness out of business because of their employees lack of consideration for their customers. I do plan to report them to the health department and I suggest everyone who have issues with the heat, complain to LA Fitness headquarters and if nothing is done to the Health Department which is what I plan to do too.

    2. I'm a memeber of LA Fitness 14100 SW 8 Street, Miami, and I can can tell you that in the last four years the quality of service in general has gotten to the point where I'm concidering joining another gym. The equipment is rusting, the treadmills controls lock-up and can't be adjusted up or down.
The latest is the poor temperature control or more precisely no freeking "Air Conditioning" in hot humid Miami. When members complain we get the "corporate controls the a/c and humidity remotely" line, but the problem does not get resolved.
Maybe they are waiting for someone to drop from dehydration or heat stroke.

    3. Today I walked out of there ready to cancel my membership. I just finished writing a long letter for the corporate office. Not only is the equipment deteriorating, but people go there to socialize and make friends. They make friends with the management, so there is no use telling the management that someone has been on a machine chatting and not working out-which is what many "ladies" do. Horrible!

    4. Same gym I go to. Today was my last day! Not only is the equipment deteriorating, but some "ladies" go there to chat and look pretty while occupying the machines. There is no use telling the management because they become "friends" with these people since they are the popular ones.

  10. LA FITNESS HAS TOP NOTCH EQUIPMENT AND MOST CHICAGO AREA LOCATIONS HAVE A VARIETY OF EXERCISE CLASSES. Therefore, it is not the physical club,it is the personnel problems that cause a club to fail: from the trainers, direct service staff, managers and field supervisors to the business accounting office. Regardless of your current acquisition, when you can not pay employee's correctly the company is getting ready to fail. Your business office errors: pays some people "to much" and other's "to less" and other's "not at all". I have lots of proof. Ask your employees!!!! Word to the Wise: Get a handle on this quick or wake-up broke some day.

There were peanuts and hair balls by the free weights and the mirrors looked like there had been an all night orgy against them. I am very disappointed in LA Fitness. I rejoiced when they took over Ballys but now I see it is just smoke and mirrors!

  13. LA Fitness in Woodbury, NJ...The managers of this club are sneaky, slimey, unethical. My husband, whose first language is Spanish, was harassed by their personnel to sign up for training. He agreed to sign up for a month and was told that he could sign up for the trainer as needed thereafter. My husband said he signed the screen to have his credit card charged for the month of training. At the end of the month, he told them that he wanted to reduce the training. THAT is when he found out that he had actually signed for a year. They misrepresented what he was actually getting. He never wanted training for a full year at $698 a month. Not only this, they never gave him any paperwork regarding this supposed "contract". Yet, when he joined the gym, they gave him a 4 page contract for the monthly membership of $30.00. Kind of funny that he has a contract for $30 a month but not $698 a month for a whole year.

So now, LA Fitness Corp. is telling us the only way out of the contract is to pay 50% of the balance. Of course we will fight it and have blocked them from charging the credit card.

Be careful when you deal with these people. Their concern is not "good health" as they say. Their concern is the almighty dollar and they will stop at nothing to get it.

I hope their unethical "ethics" land them in bankruptcy.

    1. It is no better in the suburbs. I started going back to the LA Fitness on York rd in Oakbrook because of a work relocation. OMG is all I have to say! I thought LA Fitness bought Ballys not the other way around. The club got nasty fast! No more locker service you have to bring a lock. No more towel service that is $10.00 a month. There were peanuts and hair balls by the free weights and the mirrors looked like there had been an all night orgy against them. In the mens shower in one of the stalls the handle was broken off, the shower head and the handle socket were shooting water everywhere! I wonder how long that has been like that. I am very disappointed in LA Fitness. I rejoiced when they took over Ballys but now I see it is just smoke and mirrors!

  17. I live in Winnetka, CA. A new LA Fitness Signature Club just opened around the corner from my house. My I became a member to LA Fitness I was told I was going to be able to use any gym. I was so excited my the new gym opened last Tuesday. I went to see the gym and it was very nice. I had a good workout....Yesterday I went back for my regular workout and I was told that I'm not able to come in. Not unless I pay an additional $5 for everytime I want to come in. Or if I want to upgrade my membership I have to pay $150 plus my membership would go out from $29.99 to $39.99. I think that's bullshit. I called the corporate office at 949-255-7200. They weren't able to help me at all. So I asked for the corporate address to submit a complaint. LA Fitness PO BOX 54170 Irvine, CA 92619, so I also ask if I would get a response from anyone in regards my complaints. The rep said someone may or may not respond to me.
I said then what is the purpose of submitting a complaint, if no one is going to acknowledge my complaint. I hate companies that instead of treating the customer right and make them happy they don't give a fuck about them.

This is my last month. I'm not going back.

  18. OMG, I can't believe I found all these other complaints on this site! At my loction in Portland, Oregon, the problems start with the frigid and dismissive attitude of the rude staff that "greet" me at the door. I say "hello, how are you doing?" They take my barcode card and scan it, saying nothing. When they hand it back I look at their face and say "thank you", sincerely, they never say a WORD and never even make eye contact! I would be fired from my job if I treated my patients this way-which I never would because I care about people, genuinley. And the worst offender, the most cold and uncaring is the MANAGER! Clearly she believes she is better than some people-many of the staff act this way, but it is their job to hide their true feelings because I pay the dues that pay for their jobs! And the trainers, or any staff, are always too busy for any small request-please turn on the 'closed captioning' on the t.v. set?, it takes 60 seconds with the remote control, but after politely asking 3 different people they lied to me and said the batteries were dead-how did they know since they never tried? The manager said she'd do it, but just blew me off and never came "in a few minutes" as she promised. So she had the staff lie for her...I suggested they swap out the batteries from 1 of the other numerous remotes and she said they were "the wrong size"-really? no AAA, or AA in the whole damn club? It's the blowing me off by the manager with her superior demeanor, and acting like I'm bothering her, then gettiing the staff to LIES to me like I'm an idiot...I was SO angry! I hate having to deal with these completely unwelcoming, better-than-thou people as the start to my work-out. And I can't imagine how much worse it is for the larger girls and woman who used all their courage to squeeze into their work-out gear, having decided to change their LIVES! Only to take this "greeting" personally, by shallow, ugly-on the-inside, insensitive staff; so along with the perseverance it takes to change their lives by working out, they have to get past feeling judged, and maybe it's even harder for them to return the next day...I hope some instant karma happens for the staffs of L.A.F., so they could feel the misery and emotional upset they spread

  20. I will be calling the corporate office this morning also to complain about a Manager in the League City, TX LOCATION.
I am very disturbed by what I witnessed yesterday and feel the reason Management these days are so bad is because we don't complain when we witness something wrong going on. it bothered me enough to talk to my husband about it when I got home last night and ask him what he thought about it. He agreed that the manager was WAY OUT OF LINE and should not be a Manager at all. Especially for such a large company.
I went to the gym and spoke with a training sales guy about getting some personal training. The young man was very knowledgeable, patient and very nice, Considering I had a lot of questions. I stepped away from the desk for a minute to run to my car and when I came back the General Manager(CRAIG) was reprimanding the employee about leaving work early the night before and telling him he won't work with a liar or a hypocrite and that he could request to have him moved to another gym. The sales trainer was so humiliated that he was turning red in the face. Even after I set back down the Manager kept on. I asked the sales trainer " who was that man?" And he said, " Craig the General Manager." And I told him, " Wow he is very un-professional and there is a time and place to reprimand your employees and that is just humiliating that he would do that in front of members and in front of your co-worker and he should not be a manger"! It really disturbed me that this guy has been put in charge of a gym and talks and treats his employees this way. No one should be embarrassed like that at work. I felt horrible for the guy and tried to cheer him up by telling him " he did such a great job with my meeting and that I would def. refer him to friends."
IF L.A. FITNESS WAS SMART THEY WOULD EITHER GET RID OF THAT MANAGER OR AT LEAST DE-MOTE HIM. He is way out of line and could easily lose the gym a lot of business by scaring people off.

The closing girl her name is Christina, she is forced to close, by herself every night she works and this areA is like 1 block from Detroit! It is a very bad area. There has been numerous car break ins in that parking lot and who knows what could happen to this poor girl!! The manager is just not doing her job, I've seen this Christina do a lot more for this club than that manager "Rachel". And she sure is a lot nicer too! I've asked around the club and there aren't many people that are to fond of the way she is running your club! I've been there many times on a guest past and I will never get a membership at this club do to this fact! Thank you and I hope something can be done about this matter.

  22. I am writing to send you a complaint about the LA Fitness at:

    536 Milltown Road
    North Brunswick Township
    (732) 342-7440

They keep the place filthy. The jaccuzzi broke down back in March. Now they keep opening it & closing it & the water in the pool is milky.

The shower stalls drip water even when no one is using them. There are always clumps of hair & various other garbage that is not picked up in the shower stalls. Used dirty paper towels (wet & dry) all over the place. I saw the same hair in the showers for THREE days. The toilets are also a mess. I saw one of the cleaning people act like she was doing her work but left the garbage everywhere. That was the last straw.

I have complained to the management many many times about these issues but they never get resolved. I asked them to put up signs saying pick up your garbage & use the trash cans to adding more garbage pails. Well the stalls are still leaking water, the garbage is all over the place & so is the clumps of hair, but there are no signs or additional trash cans. someone used baby powder & got it all over everything & the cleaning girl walked right past it.

Which is why I am sending you this information. I have complained many many times but to no avail. I know others have complained as well but nothing is ever done about it.

Maybe letting you know will have an impact. We shall see. If not I may cancel my membership. That would be a shame because other than the mess I walk into I love the classes & all the activities LA Fitness has to offer.

I hope you will do something to make it better. Thanks.

  23. I have belonged to the LA Fitness in Bridgeville, PA for 2 years with personal training every week. Many times I have been given passes to invite guests and have never been able to get family members/neighbors to go. Today, for the first time, a friend of mine came with me. He was told it would be $15 to work out. I gave LA a one week pass that was given to me several months ago. We were told that it was no good--there is no expiration date on the pass but we were again told it was no good. They said the man who gave us this pass is no longer with them. I said that that should not matter. They said we could use the pass at the LA Fitness that the man moved to in the South Side (45 minutes away). Again, I told them that this makes no sense that the pass says right on it that it is good for the Bridgeville LA Fitness only. They said they did not care they were not going to honor it. This has to be illegial and I plan on looking into it further. They also would not give me the pass back. I will be looking for another gym as will my friend.

  24. I went to workout this morning at 9:30 a.m. at the L.A. Fitness in Tacoma on 6th Ave. and at the front desk, your operations manager, was sitting there flat ironing her hair. This is so unprofessional and very offending as a member to this club. Your employees need to take their job more seriously (or attempt to pretend to). 28. Wow, wish I had done some research before I joined them. The attitude of the staff is rude and dismissive. They have this sense of entitlement and that the customers should be subservient to them. The club on County line in Tampa, Florida has a bunch of cocky children running the desk. They run it like they are in high school where u have cliques of people who are relevant and others who aren't. Since it's my money they are getting then common courtesy is damn well demanded and expected.

I am sincerely hoping that the corporate office pays attention to the comments here. There is a seminar that I and my staff were required to take....KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF CUSTOMER SERVICE. There have been cases of severe heat stroke, fainting that has culminated with 911 rescue calls... When I finally asked when if ever it would be fixed, I was met with wise ass remarks and despondent attitudes! Please address this matter because my next step is calling the health department which will surely follow in closing down the facility. There are many, many health code violations aside from not providing proper ventilation for the members... Moldy smells, inadequate upkeep on equipment, lack of mats(0 to be exact)water stained and collapsed ceiling panels.... and so on! The facilty is in Miami and the location is called Airport.

La Fitness took over Ballys in Copaigue Long Island NY recently, it is now a dirty gym where nothing is cleaned, weights lay around on floor for days, and most shocking and a risk to health is the black mold that is growing on numerous ceiling tiles through out the gym. When it rains the roof leaks. I see no corrections being made, i also see the mass exodus from this gym. I have also reported the black mold issue to the Suffolk County Health Department.

NOW SINCE ALEX WALLS WAS MADE MANAGER OF THE GYM THE PLACE HAS GONE "TOTALLY DOWNHILL." HE IS NOT A NICE MAN NOR IS HE A GOOD MANAGER. HE TREATS THE CLIENTS LIKE "GARBAGE." HE TALKS VERY CONDESCENDING,RUDE, AND HAS A "NASTY" ATTITUDE! THE GYM, CHAIRS, EQUIPMENT, BATHROOMS, LOCKER ROOMS, SHOWERS, FLOORS, NEW CARPET ETC., ARE A FILTHY MESS. I COULD GO ON AND ON REGARDING JUST HOW DIRTY IT IS BUT I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH TIME. I'VE HAD WOMEN COME UP TO ME AND SAY " DID YOU SEE THE BENCHES IN THE WOMENS' LOCKER ROOM? I WOULD NOT SIT ON THEM. THEY HAVE ---- ON THEM AND HAVE NEVER BEEN CLEANED." I WILL END THIS BY SAYING " I WISH NOW THAT WE NEVER SIGNED UP FOR SO LONG WITH THIS GYM." IT'S TRULY A DISGRACE TO WORK OUT IN.......

I have witnessed members falling and when complained I was told that the microphones have been on order for the past month. If someone gets hurt it will be on LA Fitness. I complained to one of the employee's & he acted like he did nt care & said i neede to complain to corporate. So I hope corporate reads this & will do something about this.. by the way i have 20 other members of my family also w/La fitness so they get alot of my families money plus all the other members that go. We should nt have an issue of no godd a/c unless the unit is broken other than that the gym should be cool enough to accomodate all of their clients.

  35. Encino, CA location. The men's gym changing room is carpeted from floor to bankettes. That's right, carpet in a men's locker room. That same carpet has been there since it was Ballys Total Fitness. It's smelled of reek and must and mildew then as it does today.
I complained to the management of then Ballys and they did nothing. I've even complained to the Los Angles Health Department and someone actually did something. A woman came out to the Encino, CA location and confirmed the wretched mildew stench but was powerless to do anything about it.
Then LA Fitness came along. Surely they would redo the men's locker room and put tile in like "normal thinking people" would have done. I was wrong. They did nothing and after complaining to he manager of the Encino, CA location, I was told don't expect anything to happen anytime soon.

  36. Greetings

I have been a member of LA Fitness for some time.
Took time off and returned with my entire family of five. We are dedicated to fitness and thought that LA Fitness had a hiring criterion above and beyond those within the business.
Imagine my surprise when I find out that one of your cycle instructors plans a “birthday party” for my wife and only he shows up with a woman that has been trying to set him up with my wife.
But wait; it gets better. He puts up pictures of her and him on his Facebook web page with lewd remarks next to the pictures. When she tries to get him to remove them he refuses.
I was introduced to this character on June 15, 2012 when I attended the morning class at the Coral Gables, Florida gym with my wife Marcela. He held a 15 minute conversation with me in which he told me and my wife that he had worked for LA Fitness for 11 years but 5 of those years he had been illegally in the country. Moreover he stated that he obtained his US residency by means of marriage fraud to a Cuban American woman who is part of a ring. He paid her $10,000.00 and she “disappeared” according to Mr., Javier Emanuel Pomponio, your cycle instructor.
Out of curiosity I ran a background check in his native Argentina and we found that he has a criminal record in Argentina. We requested a report which we will forward to Homeland Security and ICE, as we have reported his federal immigration fraud to ICE and will help ICE prosecute this individual by testifying in court. Both; my wife and I are appalled to know that a criminal is instructing our kids.
Truly a disappointment and we demand that this subject is terminated and an apology from LA Fitness may very well keep us taking legal action.

  41. I would like to address an ongoing problem at the Roswell West club in Georgia.
We have a fairly good following of racquetball players at this club but conditions have become unbearable and unsafe.
The Air conditioners over the past couple months have been on the fritz multiple times.
The air seems to work fine most of the time in the rests of the gym but the courts will easily approach 90+ degrees and extremely humid. The walls and floor become slick with moister and unsafe.
I have seen several players come off the court lately with what appears to be heat related health problems.
Many of the players I play with are now looking for a new place to play due to the poor conditions on the court. We have approached the ops managers several times and we always hear the same thing. They are looking into it but will take a couple weeks to fix.
The fix usually lasts a week or two and we are faced with the same problem.
I have requested that floor fans be placed next to the courts so we can blow some air in the courts in between games but nothing ever happens with that.
Please help us resolve this. It's not an expensive fix, it just takes some effort.
    Thank you for your time.

  47. To management,
This letter is to express my extreme discontent with LA Fitness, its staff, personal trainers and its obvious disregard for its members. The LA Fitness on University Ave in St. Paul is not only the most unprofessional LA Fitness I have been to, but the most unprofessional fitness center I have ever been to. To substantiate my claims allow me to provide some examples. The moment I walk inside I am never greeted by staff at the front desk. They rarely make eye contact because they are too busy on their phone or talking about how much they partied the night before. Other staff members will look at me with a scowl on their face and give the impression that I’m not welcome. I have never once had staff tell me to enjoy my workout with a smile on their face or when I leave to thank me for coming. Furthermore, I have never heard such profound use of the word “nigger” by some of the staff. This is used in usual discourse amongst staff themselves and primarily on the basketball court where staff sometimes plays. This is especially troubling coming from Aaron as I believe he is head of fitness sales. Do they forget they are representing the company at all times? The overaggressive play in the basketball court has led to fist fights on occasions. Since these young men are unable or incapable of policing themselves, there needs to be periodic monitoring before someone is seriously injured and you find yourself in litigation. The foul language continues with personal trainers while they are working out and even when they are with clients. During their workouts they scream, grunt, slam down their weights and never wipe down the equipment when they are finished. Rules serve no purpose if they are not enforced. I am under the assumption that staff does not care or they are intimidated. I believe it is both. I am personally offended by this because I too am a personal trainer. With the exception of one personal trainer, I have observed all of them use profanity, appear disinterested, use their cell phones (not to track workout times and rest periods) and carry on conversations with others while their client is standing there waiting for direction. It’s no wonder why many trainers idly stand around because they don’t have any clients.

I have witnessed many members allow their friends to enter through the fire exit in the basketball court. This welcomes many undesirables and criminal activity to take place in your establishment. There have been drug deals on the basketball court (primarily marijuana) and even one firearm that I have seen in a backpack!! I do not feel safe at this gym and I have recently contacted the St. Paul Police Department to deter this kind of activity since management is either unaware of the situation or is indifferent. It is my hope that many if not all these issues I have addressed can be alleviated not only for my safety and enjoyment of the gym but for others as well. Rest assured that I am not the only one who feels this way about LA Fitness. Take this letter as it is, as well deserved harsh criticism but also an opportunity to make some much needed changes. If you choose to disregard this letter than my assumptions of LA Fitness, its staff personal trainers and management stand correct. A copy of this letter has also been sent to your corporate office headquarters in Irvine California.

  48. The Barrett parkway facility is nothing like you guys are describing. From my experience, it is clean, the staff is well trained and professional, from the trainers, to the kids club team (they adore my son) to the maintenance and cleaning crew, the experience at Barrett Parkway, GA is wonderful. I look forward to my time there lifting weights and playing basketball. Other clubs should come and take notes, b/c this facility really does a great job.

  49. The Highland facility does not repair it's equipment in a timely fashion. I like to use the stairmaster. There are only 4 machines and one has been broken for at least 4 months. Now, another one has an out of order sign on it and if you want to use a machine anytime after 5:00pm, there is always a wait. In addition, there are two water fountains on the floor that have been broken for months and none of the remaining ones on the floor or in the men's locker room have cold water. The compressor does continuously run in one of the fountains in the men's locker room but the water is always hot.

  50. Be extra careful with Anthony Rentas, at the LA Fitness in Palm Beach Gardens, at 7070 Fairway Drive. Every word that comes out of his mouth is a lie. He's not even a trainer, and sells you his training services. Once you've signed the dotted line, he tells you that he can't train you, but that so and so will do it. If you complain, he responds "Too bad. You're in and you can't get our money back."
Also I just send an email to the address on the corporate page and it was rejected by mail-daemon.

He's not a trainer, but promises to be your trainer. Once you've signed the dotted line, he says, "Too bad. You're in and can't get your money back, haha." Literally like that.
Worst experience I've had in a while.

Always negotiate!! Well I loved my experience at LA Fitness. The only complaint I can think of is that you have to pay extra to go to other LA fitness gyms. Overall they were great though! Big place, lots of equipment, many features, classes, and more!! I loved it!

  55. Today’s Date: Thursday, August 9, 2012 PART I
I am a member of the LA Fitness in Parsippany, NJ. I have been having several issues with my billing since March 2012. I have been through 4 trainers since I joined in December of 2012. The trainers keep leaving because they are treated poorly by upper management. I am beyond frustrated. When I signed up for personal training sessions back in December 2012, of course I was told that every week I would be in a half hour session. Now without notice, the sessions are 25 minutes and it is not a session every week it is 4 sessions a month so if there are 5 weeks in a month such as July and August 2012, I not only lose out on a session but because their billing cycle isn't until August 16, 2012. I can't even schedule any sessions until after that date; so now I am losing out on 2 weeks of sessions with my trainer. To make matters worse, when I went to LA Fitness after work yesterday, I saw my trainer and said hello and explained to him why I don't have any sessions booked with him. Then I proceeded to go to the locker room and change so I can start my work out. When I walked out of the locker room, the head trainer stopped me and very rudely said to me in front of everyone, I am not allowed to talk to the trainers while they are with clients. I told him, I do not work for LA fitness. He is not the boss of me. He said to me “Yes I can, I am the Head trainer.” I don’t care who you are. No one can tell me who I can and can't speak to at the gym. If he has an issue he needs to tell his trainer and not me the member. And it's not like my trainer and I were hanging out, we quickly spoke about my training sessions and I explained to my trainer why I wasn't booked with him. Then I proceeded to walk up to the front to see if someone else can help me with my billing issue since both managers were too busy to assist me again. I also need to tell you that I wasted just about an hour with one of the managers on Sunday who wasn’t able to resolve my billing issue. He swore he would call me back no later than Tuesday (August 7, 2012) hoping to have a resolution. Of course I never heard from him. When I saw him Wednesday (August 8, 2012) after work, he didn’t even recognize me and he admitted he forgot. PART II is follow...

  56. PART II
The girl at the front was very helpful until the Head Trainer, the one who scolded me in front of everyone for saying hello to my trainer, charged up to the front and in a very harsh, very loud and aggressive tone started yelling me again and telling the girl in the front that I'm complaining about him because he told me I wasn't allowed to speak to the trainers and he didn't do anything wrong because he is the Head Trainer. So the head trainer disrespected and embarrassed me twice in a matter of 5 minutes. I originally went to front to figure out what was wrong with my billing. I had no intention of complaining about the head trainer being rude and disrespectful but at this point I had to and this did put me over the edge. At this point, suddenly one of the managers was free to speak with me. After I complained to the manager and explained both my billing and the head trainer issues, she even said that she as the manager, she talks to the trainers all the time during their training sessions while they are with clients. Then the manager said she needs a few days to “absorb” the situation regarding what the head trainer did to me. She agreed he was out of line but she wasn't sure how to handle it. She made an appointment with me for the following Tuesday to discuss what is going to be done about the head trainer. This incident took place yesterday, Wednesday, August 8, 2012. She did offer Monday but I am unavailable. I find it absolutely absurd the she is the boss of the head trainer and she needs a few days to figure out how she is going handle and confront the situation? This is the Manager of LA Fitness. Now that I am uncomfortable, and I feel that I was disrespected and also feel intimidated by the head trainer I no longer want to go to LA Fitness. I have a contract with them until November. They won't let me out of my contract. I have to buy out at 50%. I don't feel that it is fair since their head trainer created a hostile environment for me, the member/client of LA fitness and I still have to buy out my contract in order to cancel my membership. I should just be let out of my contract as a courtesy being what the head trainer did to me. I am considering contacting a lawyer regarding the head trainer situation if I am not let out of my contract.

  57. What you in the corporate offices failed to consider is that 90-95% of the people who attend the water arobics class are all senior citizens and ALL of us DO NOT use the other facilities. It appears that you are listening to one person voice a complaint and completely disregarding our rights as dues paying members. Only one lane is supposed to be made available to ONE swimmer who may want to use the pool while 15 of us donot count. You are aware, I hope that in order for us to get the full benefit of the water exercises we must be in water up to our shoulders. To stand in wastedeep water renders the benefits useless.
I am contacting our state's department for the aging and AARP and see what their thoughts are on the matter.
I certainly hope that you reconsider this recent policy change and convey it to your site manager. Thank you for your consideration of this most important matter.

  59. I'm a member of LA Fitness Signature Club in Rockville, Maryland. A club about one year old but already having a bad reputation of member services. Members' immediate concern are lack of maintenance an services as:
The pool and spa are frequently out of service and closed to the members. The showers by the pool side are broken for ages. There are no cold water running in shower rooms and wash basins. No cool water in the fountains.Shower heads are not spraying with normal/acceptable pressure. A/C is broken very frequently and ceiling fans are not working. One or more toilet flushes are broken at any time. Towel service is frequently in short supply to the members they paid for it. Club manager and employees not very much caring about members' concerns and complains. Members experienced the same careless reaction when called the corporate HQ to complain.

  60. I am a member of Royal Oak, MI club. The customer service here is no better. It's a very busy because of its location & that's the ONLY reason. Staff have nothing to do with you once you join or if you are not interested in paying for personal training. I had left an ipod on the machine & then called right away to the front desk. Do you think she could have went to go get it from where I exactly told her it was? No, she said the "cleaning people will probably pick it up later." Thanks for going the extra mile & walking over 20 feet to check for me. I later came back that day hoping she may have found the time to do so- not! The girls at the front desk were as equally incompetent & uninterested in helping. One just ate cheesy goldfish & told me I could look through all the drawers at the front desk myself which I did. The other could not provide me with corporate's address or give me a person to complain to at the location. She told me maybe "they put it in the locker room on the shelf?" Is that where you put a lost valuable item? Its not a headband.

  62. I am very unhappy with LA Fitness - and I am going to start spreading the word - I am going to start with the military base in my back yard - yes that's right - I am retired USAF -

I signed up for LA Fitness and I loved the idea that there was no contract. When I signed up I asked about the personal trainer and I was very specific about why I needed a trainer - "I want to use in equipment properly and I only need a few sessions to get an idea about how many repetitions and which machines. I made myself very clear.

At the time I signed up for the membership I was told that at any time if I thought that I had to many training sessions that I could get a REDUCTION - this is not the case.

I signed up for the personal trainer and the sales person told me to initial each statement and he paraphrased as we went along and stated that this is nothing more than exactly what we just talked about - well he left out the one year contract - he left out the fact that what I was initially was not exactly what we talked about - he left out the fact that a reduction in training sessions would be the result of a "buy out" which would only serve to preserve my credit score and that I would have to pay 50% of the balance of the training sessions and NOT get anything for it.

I have spoken to the regional office here in Dallas and the Grand Prairie gym manager (I-20 Grand Prairie) where this membership was initiated. Your people are NOT interested in customer service. Their own concern is their bonuses and their commissions from these sales. The manager stated that he would make the recommendation but could not guarantee that the personal training sessions would be reduced to once a month.

I made it very clear when I signed up - I do not need someone standing over me to make sure I do xyz - I have the discipline to do the workouts on my own. I just wanted guidance.

I am very displeased with LA Fitness and I am going to re-post this email on the various military sites and various military face book sites. I am going to warn unsuspecting military members and veterans that LA Fitness goes from having no contract to contract when you sign up for a personal training. It is not sensible that you would have no contract for gym membership and then add a contract when you get a personal trainer. Everyone that I have spoken to so far has found the no contract / contract policy odd. And I am going to keep passing on the word.

  63. Very unhappy with LA Fitness ...

I signed up 10 days ago and because i can't make time to go to the gym right now, I thought I would be able to make time, I have to cancel.

I'm one day over my 10 day membership return policy they won't return my registration fee. I don't agree with the way they do business and now I'm happy to be cancelling, I'm out 100 dollars, but its ok, LA fitness staff are all nice nice with you and become your friend when you want to sign up, but after that forget your name, they don't care about you after you've paid your money.

First I want to give thanks to your employees for running a first class organization and to make you aware of the great job your employees do in keeping the gym clean and the equipment in excellent working order. Secondly, as a senior, who has been working out since my military days the 1960's,I frequently am sought out by other seniors in the gym to give them advise. Obviously they are more comfortable having someone their own age to discuss and design their programs than someone the age of their grandchildren. Just a heads up to you keep you ahead of the game in the future, and keep up the good work here in Southeast Florida Bill Dugan

  67. The following is a review of LA Fitness in Clifton, NJ.

I can't say the facilities are bad. In fact, they have lots of equipment, classes, racquetball and basketball courts, swimming pool, etc, etc. It didn’t take much to be sold on the idea of becoming a member at first.

But they also have a bunch of thieves as members. My gym bag was stolen from the locker and I was just one of many victims, according to the local police. They should have an attendant in the locker room.

One of the reasons why I signed up with this club was the pool which is not always well maintained. I realize that it is a large pool and hundreds of people use it daily but the staff that maintains it does a horrible job. The water stinks at times, too much chlorine, hair and sometimes I’ve found band-aids in the pool.

According to a local ordinance the pool area must close when club manager is not on duty. I don’t think they even know this is there. I was in the pool on a Sunday afternoon and was very annoyed by a bunch of guys who were being rude and playing stupid games in the pool without regard for others. But guess what…there was no manager on duty to complain to!!!

Bottom line, this club is all about the number of memberships they can get. They don’t give a crap about members satisfaction and safety. Can’t wait until my contract is over so I can move on….

  68. My husband and I have been members of Bally's/Lifestyle Family Fitness for 24 years since moving to Florida. In July LA Fitness bought Lifestyle Family Fitness. Many of the Lifestyle members were part of Silver Sneakers. This wonderful program is offered by Medicare Advantage companies at no cost to the members. What a wonderful program to help seniors stay healthy. Unfortunately LA Fitness will not sign a contract with Healthways who manages this program because "they don't want to deal with insurance companies". They are not offering the seniors any special membership rates so they can continue coming to the gym. They don't seem to understand that these seniors are on fixed incomes and cannot afford the expensive gym memberships being offered. Many businesses in Florida recognize that much of the population are seniors and offer discounts to attract their business knowing that some money added to the bottom line is better than no money but evidently LA Fitness doesn't care about that. I guess they don't care about the senior population. After spending over an hour reading all the negative comments on two different websites I can see that they don't care about any of their members not just seniors. Their mission statement stated "LA Fitness will be honoring all of the active membership agreements that it purchased from Lifestyle at their current rate. " I guess we know how that turned out. So much for truth and honesty in your mission statement. In the past few weeks we have seen the upstairs workout area turn into a ghost town due to many members cancelling and going elsewhere. Also the Silver Sneakers class has about half the participants that it had before they announced the end of the program. The mass exit by many of the members is an indication of the unhappiness felt by all. Too bad because we used to enjoy coming to this gym.

  69. I visited the Bloomfield Hills, Michigan location for a general look at the facilities and what they had to offer. To say the least, it was not impressive. Especially for being located in a very high priced real-estate location serving some of the elite suburbs in Oakland County.
My first impressions were not favorable. The staff at the front desk - were not welcoming at all. Worse was the guy I met with to 'show me the center' - he was condescending and rude - walking me through the center while waving and saying 'hi' to people working out, like walking through the halls in highschool. I wanted to stop him and say "Excuse me, but I am your customer right now - NOT them" - thinking back...I should have! When I inquired about the machine equipment being cleaned - he smirked and shrugged off that hand sanitizers were on the back wall and staff cleans machines 2x a day - (Which I highly doubted). The pool was a very small - 3 lanes - opening up through glass wall to the front of the building (so much for some privacy) - there were people standing on the sides of the pool waiting their turn to get into the pool. I could immediately see that this would pose a problem, since pool facilities are one of the tops of my list of amenities.
Basically, the whole atmosphere of this place was horrific - no smiles, no welcomes, no manners - no friendly faces. AND, this place smelled like sweat. Machine set ups were academically elementary in the placement locations - overlooking the first story - When you walked in, you are greeted by staring eyes from above....a bit creepy to say the least.
The worst part was this guy to was 'showing me around' - he had no interest in showing me the club - he was going through the motions, more interested in watching girls walk by and 'fist pumping' all his buddies on the floor.
When it came down to the nuts and bolts (PRICING) he whips across his desk (mindless, cheap cubicles - meant for office space of telemarketers) - a sheet that shows pricing for monthly payments. Telling me that if I pay 'upfront' a higher price I can get a less expensive monthly outlay of money -
Seriously, this is the best you have? This is the best sales pitch you are leaving a potential customer with? Wow, I'm surprised at the lack of professionalism. I could go on and on - with the little irritants that have me running the other way, but you get the picture.
Obviously, upper management at the corporate level is doing a very bad job at creating 'lifestyle' managers to sell prospective clients on their facilities. Read all of the above comments - it is a common denominator. Poor facilities, Poor staffing = unhappy customers who will discourage 'new' friends/co-workers/customers from joining.

  70. LA Fitness in Silver Spring MD on Cameron Street is officially the worst as of today. Showed up this morning at 6 am with a first time guest and found a group of people waiting at the front door...You guessed it… Staff never showed up to open the club at 5 am. I was so so embarrassed. My guest brought work clothes to shower etc, and all was screwed up. We had to drive about 15 miles to the next LA Fitness in another county to workout. For the past few months there has been a leakage in the men's bathroom. The mold smell is soooo violent and disgusting I don't even enter the men’s locker room or even use the lockers. I dare someone tell me sh*!, for keeping my gym bag on me in the gym. The carpet is so dirty it turned black instead of grew AND its wet. I definitely will be calling the health dept. on these mofo’s. The machines take over 6 weeks to get repaired. This is absolutely unacceptable. The gym and location I must admit is good but the maintenance is zero point zero. The carpet is flat dead and the staff look like they are all high on some Sh*!. LA Fitness Silver Spring MD...THE WORST!

  71. Since LA Fitness bought the Bally's Club that I was a member of things have gone straight downhill. (Huntington Beach, CA) They finally fired the last of the Bally employees, who happened to be my trainer. She'd been training for 20 years and really knew how to work with us 60+ old guys. One of their 20+ kids put me through a "boot camp" style work out that I took a full week to recover from. The new manager saw her refreshing an old client how to use a particular machine. That became his pretext for firing her for "private training" in the club. I'm on to Gold's. Much better gym and staff.

  72. Ecinitas LA Fitness had someone vomit in the pool last night and they told me that the pool was closed AFTER I swam a few laps... I'm still totally discussed. How difficult is it to tell people that the pool is closed when you walk in? Or put up a sign? I left 30 minutes and there was still no sign up and people were walking around the pool area. Months earlier my locker was broken into and the girl at the desk said she was sorry but that happens ALL THE TIME....who is running these places? Obvoiusly management does not care.

  73. A few weeks ago several lockers were broken into at our LA Fitness in Gambrills, MD. This is not the first time that we have heard about this going on. Whoever did it used bolt cutters because there were locks on the lockers. La Fitness has been no help at all. THey need to hire security and get their cameras up in the hall outside of the locker rooms. It is a shame that the management doesn't care about their patrons. It has been a huge expense to replace keys/ locks etc... and a huge inconvenience.
They are going to start losing business because they aren't running a safe work out enviroment.

  75. I have been working out in gyms for 30 years and Friday, September 28,2012 was a first at the LA Fintness in Leesburg VA. I approached a pull down machine/bench. I noticed a back pack resting on the seat. I asked a trainer (along with the young lady he was training) if the bag was either of theirs. They both said no so I placed the bag next to the bench and began my back excercise. About a couple of minutes later I noticed from my left side (where the bag was) a mean looking female coming over and very emphatically grab the bag and throw it next the machine I was working out on. Clearly she was upset so I said, "excuse me is there a problem"?. She intially did not respond so I again asked her a little more loudly if there was a problem. She pulled her earbud out of her one ear and with a utter look of disgust said, hey ,fuck you". I asked, What did you say"? She said , verly rudely, that she was super setting and trying to save time. I told her I didn't care if she were training for the olympics, this is a PUBLIC gym and everyone is entitled to a workout station. I would have gladly stepped aside if she would have spoken to me in a civil tone and let her proceed and then would have jumped in after she was done. I went to the so called manager and she didn't want't anything to do with me and I left her in mid sentence. I have never been verbally assaulted in a gym and never plan on it ever happening again. Back in the day, you would have gotten you butt kicked for trying to reserve anything at a gym. Wonderful staff at LA Fitness in Leesburg VA. Anyone who is thinking about joining, please keep one thing in mind, bring your helmet because you never who going to try and pee on your head.I will be terminating my membership ASAP and would stronly advise against anyone joining such an unprofessional organization. This wasn't the first time they did not take care of a good paying member but it is sure as hell will be the last itme.

I went the first time on a weekend and was told only the manager could do it and she is only there M-F. I asked if there was ANYTHING they could do since I drove all the way there. The guy said 'no'. Used 2 lunch breaks during the week and the manager was 'at lunch' or had stepped out, but the girl gave me a cancellation form. I said 'if I was to come in this weekend would I be given this form then? She said 'absolutely'. So I responded 'why when I came last weekend was I not given this form'. 'oh..he must not have known' WELL EDUCATE YOUR FRICKEN STAFF!!! My gym used be Lifestyles and I knew I'd cancel once I heard LA Fitness was taking it over. My previous experiences with LA Fitness have been horrible. My fiancee was charged for 3 months after he canceled and he had to go there 4 times before they corrected it. Each time they treated him like garbage. I did a few booths there on their customer appreciation days and the staff was so rude. They show you their highest prices on the price sheet and wait for you to pick the most expensive ones, when they really keep all the LOWER priced memberships tucked away in the computer. They are ALL THE SAME MEMBERSHIPS. They show you the highest ones so they have room to lower it if they need to and they pretend to be "giving you a discout because they like you" when in reality, those PRICES ACTUALLY EXIST ALL THE TIME. The company is PATHETIC and fires and re-hires people like CRAZY. Nobody lasts more than a year, and if they do, you know they are GOOD at SCAMMING people. It's horrible. The crime rate was rediculous and all of the General Managers are usually ex- crack heads or steroid heads who never graduated and are just always miserable because they have to hit a REDICULOUS % daily. Most of the employees do "DIRTY DEALS" to reach the daily % and then get caught for it later down the road and get fired anyway, and for what!? A $40- $60 commission. ..... When I told him I had already signed up at a different location, he said "Thanks a lot", cursed, and hung up on me! This, from a manager! Wow!   84. Who may be concern;

Im live in miami beach (south beach), Florida and many of my friends and I talk about WHY there is not LA FITNESS is this part of the city. We are very sure if you have a GYM down here will be fantastic. Provably is not enough space in miami beach but there is one location available wich is all ready set up for a GYM. Is big enough to open one of your locations.

To help you with the address is:

    1400 Alton Rd
    Miami Beach, FL 33139

    Description

Ground Floor - 8,179 SF Second Floor - 7,471 SF Third Floor - 5,336 SF. Neighboring tenants: Bank of America, CVS/pharmacy , Walgreens (coming soon), Whole Foods Market. Square footage represents the maximum allowable GLA given the existing structure with an expanded Second Floor and an enclosed Third Floor Property features a 7,500-SF parking lot located west of the building.

    Total= 20,986 SF

    Northwest corner of 14th Street

There was open Gold's Gym at this place before been closed... The reason was because the membership ship was tooooo expensive.. But with your prices i believe you will hit it....

  85. The LA
Fitness in Redlands and Highland, CA has pretty cool service of letting motorcycles to park right at the front doors. Ride your chopper and you can pull it up and park it in the public egress way. Patrons, just be careful when exiting in the case of an emergency. Hey, if the motorcycle falls on you or you get snagged on it, no worries - you can own the facility after you sue them for negligence and total disregard for public safety. You'll probably get a substantial punitive claim too for not being able to ever work again. ;-)
Must be some geniuses in their risk management department.

  86. I was a member of Bally Fitness when LA purchased them. Mine is a pretty standard gym. No pool, basketball, racquetball or hot-tubs. With pretty reasonable rate. I got in on a 299.00 for 18 month special. But, now that their "LA Fitness" they want to double their membership fees,.....??? Are you kidding me? 499.00 a year,.....????

  87. LA fitness has recently bought out the lifestyles club in bradenton FL in which I have attended for years. I have had a corporate account through my insurance company for the last 5 months which LA fitness is no longer going to accept. They told me I will now need to pay $100 initiation fee to rejoin a club in which I have been going to for years! I am finding a new club! Not happy with the new classes either.

  88. LA Fitness is Hollywood is the worst. The cleaning people clean around you while you're working out and breathing in all the chemicals, the women's locker room electrical outlets are out and HAVE been out for over a month, they don't have mats down, and i saw a few people take a fall.
What's it going to take Corporate??? I want my money back, i'll go somewhere where they care about the members.

  91. LA Fitness is the biggest scam in the name of training program. I signed up for a fitness program back in August. However, my job is now requiring me to move to a city where they don't have any clubs. So when I contacted the customer service personnel, I was told that they can't do much because of TX law and I obligated to pay through the rest of the contract. Or I can buy out my contract for 50%. I told them my situation is very different and that I am not disputing back month's fees, jus future ones since I don't live in TX anymore. I was given the usual PR BS and told there is nothing they can do. When I asked her if I can speak to her supervisor, she said there is no one above her. She was totally not interested in helping a customer out. On top of that she said I need to go back to the club where I signed the agreement to cancel. I was like 'Are you kidding me?'. I told her I don't live there anymore and that I am not going to fly into this city just to cancel my fitness contract. Again, she just that is my best option. Please do not join LA Fitness.. They will rip you off at every turn.

This is the worst club and with the worst quality people running the show.

  93. After two months - we are leaving! LA Fitness Signature in Woodland Hills, CA was suppose to be their high end club. It always has machines out of order, its not clean, the weights are never in the right order, the staff is moody. Their locker rooms and pool is much to be desired. Their towels have a manual check in and out policy and the manager is rude. We rather pay 3x the price and head to a real gym. Soo disappointing.

  94. I was told that if I signed up for personal training I could freeze it at anytime and just pay $15 per month versus the $320 I pay for the PT sessions. After going through 4 trainers in 3 months they fired the only trainer I liked. I asked for them to freeze my account and suddenly they say the company changed policies and I can't have that option. DO NOT SIGN ANY CONTRACT WITH THESE PEOPLE.

  95. I joined the club in Culver City, California location. HUGE mistake. I prepaid 4 months of my month to month membership and didn't find out until the other day that they will be closed for 6 weeks for a remodel. Rediculous! they took my money, and knew they would most likely be closed for a majority of the time I had already paid for. The Manager Jessica is rude, cold hearted and passive agressive. She has the worst customer service skills I have had the displeasure of experiencing. If you are considering joining a gym, RUN, don't walk away from LA FITNESS!!!!

  96. I am very distress with the club on Bundy Dr in West Los Angeles. The club is pathetic. Dinosaur equipment breaking down constantly. The steam and sauna in the men's room are not operable. The club is filthy. The energy is very depressing. The management keeps promising the club will be remodeling soon. They said it was suppose to be started last August and now they delay it due to some lame excuse that the West Hollywood club renonvation needs to be finished first before moving on to the next club. I am tired of waiting for these promises. I am cancelling my membership of 20 years and join 24 Hour Fitness.

  97. I am very very dissapointed with La Fitness Huntingdon valley in Pa. They bug you and bug you for a whole year to join trainers with the lie that they are going to just show you the machine I asked to cancel and they are giving me the run around. They are easy to drag you in and when you want out they have no time for you. I am ready to call an investigative reporter on chanel 29 and chanel 6 so they can investigate this gym. Never had issues with other gyms before and frankly the way they handle it is very unprofecional!I am cancelling my membership and joining else where and taking the 6 people I brought with me.

  99. I have been dealing with your terrible customer service in both the gym and at corporate since June 2012. I was a member at urban active fitness in Omaha for a short time, but I moved to a new city and wanted to cancel my membership, the girl at the gym informed me that i had to physically come into the gym and fill out a paper and pay a fee. I told her I couldnt not possibly drive an hour into town to sign a paper so she emailed me a copy and i emailed it back and assumed it had been dealt with. In October i get a call saying the my payment had not been processed because i had gotten a new check card number. I was blindsided considering i thought that my membership had been cancelled since June! so I called Urban Active and informed the manager of the problem ( her name was britney bensen) I explained that Alexis and I had corresponded and that I was not aware that she did not cancel my account. She apologized and asked me to write her an email explaining exactly what happened and then told me that Alexis had been fired or let go and they had no way to see if she had talked with me!

    ReplyDelete
  100. I wrote her the email and never heard anything back, but assumed the issue was resolved because my bank account had not been charged. Yesterday the 29th of November i get yet ANOTHER call from LA fitness this time saying again that my payment had not been processed! I was so angry that i just immediately called corporate and spoke with another girl named Alexis and had to reexplain AGAIN what was going on. She assured me that my membership would be cancelled immediately and I would NOT be charged the 32$ balance considering i havent stepped foot in that gym since late may. Today i log onto my banking and see that i was in fact charged! I immediately called back to corporate and spoke with a girl who tells me that she does see that my membership was cancelled but AFTER my bank had been charged. I attempted to explain that it didnt make any sense that i had recieved a call just yesterday saying that my payment was not processed, but she is saying that i was charged on the 28th. On my account the payment says Nov. 30 and is still pending, she says that she cannot refund me unless i can prove my correspondance with urban active fitness. I do not have emails that i wrote 3 or 6 months ago! It is extremely frustrating that I am the one being held responsible for the mistakes of YOUR employees that obviously could care less that I do not have the time to be constantly calling and worrying about stuff that should have been dealt with. She says ok sorry let me try and transfer you back to Alexis the girl you spoke with yesterday. I sat on hold for 30 MINUTES! just to be hung up on after waiting and waiting. All i wanted to do is get this rediculous situation resolved but obviously all she wanted to do was get rid of me! So after being hung up on, I called yet again, and had to explain AGAIN the situation to yet another person on top of explaining that i had sat on hold for 30 minutes during my busy day for no reason at all. This women was the only women who was even remotely friendly or helpful and immediately sent the refund request and had to apologize 10 times for the actions of others that had nothing to do with her. She informed me that the last person i spoke with was not even listed on the account and that my conversation with Alexis yesterday was the last correspondance recorded. I am sorry but the girl who put me on hold to just get rid of me should be fired from her job! She obviously is manipulative and lazy and has no customer service skills at all. Its the most annoying thing ever to be told something different everytime you speak with someone, when i shouldnt have had to speak with ANYONE ELSE after the first call! Its the worst and most unprofessional customer service i have ever had to deal with, and considering i myself have worked in service for 10 years I know exactly what should be expected from someone in her position. I have never been so relieved to not be a member with a corporation in my life, and your transfer from Urban Active to LA fitness is obviously a huge mess. I expect to recieve a refund since I was told that I would not be charged, and to never have to deal with this again. If possible please commend the last women i dealt with for her great service skills, and please deal with those who have NONE! Please call if you have any other questions i would love to have to explain this all over again.

  102. They did the same thing here at the gym in Yonkers, New York. I went in for the complimentary session and got me to sign to several sessions plus 26 free sessions. When I saw that more money was coming out of the credit card, I went to speak to the manager. He didn't even acknowledge that I was there. He kept ignoring me. I am so upset I never would have agreed to such lengthy and expensive scenario. I have been working so hard to get out of all my debts that I can't even afford to send my daughter to daycare, and then these people trick me into signing this so called contracted. Ever since I found out about this I have had anxiety attacks and depressed. I still can't believe that I am being forced to pay this when I was tricked and pressured. Please don't fall for the TRAP!!!!!

  103. This is a complaint regarding your Fort Lauderdale LA Fitness located on North Andrews ( in the cypress bend plaza). The entire staff are all RUDE and not customer service oriented and is reflected from the management down. The managers name is Henry and he projects an "attitude". In addition another member by the name of "Fabio" is equally the same.

Recently I witnessed that both persons (Henry and Fabio) had a heated discussion with a customer on the floor. They both raised their voices to the customer and we so loud I overheard the entire discussion. Let me say that I, being a customer service manager for the IRS for over 25 years, I was appalled that your management and employees would act in such a rude manner. The manager (Henry) should have taken the customer (now who was heated) aside to his office and NOT have the discussion where other customers could see and hear. I am now thinking of canceling my membership because of the actions I witnesses by your manager.

Lastly, the employees in this store do NOT promote helping customers and never roam the store. They just sit in their desks. .Not a good reflection. They should be available to ask questions. Also, there is equiment lying in the middle of the floor and they just walk over it without picking it up. I am just waiting to trip over a piece and then see a lawyer.

Anyways, This manager (Henry) and the employee named Fabio should be fired.

Hopefully someone will read this and take action but I am not expecting a response

A very disgusted and formally loyal customer

Nobody puts their weights away, wipes down their equipment or picks up their trash, no gym etiquette whatsoever. The dumbbell racks are literally empty with dumbbells scattered all over the gym & there are grown men talking on their cell phones like little girls while sitting on the equipment & the staff does nothing. The staff is useless & unfriendly. The dumbbells are so old the plates have melted together to the point you can't differeniate one plate from the next. There are no rules enforced there at all. I see people who lift weights & then drop them on the floor & walk away.....amazing. They have absolutely no shame or manners & again the staff does nothing. Hoping another gym opens close by soon.

  106. I want to let everyone know that the LA Fitness located in Beaverton, OR is the worst one, the managers there show up to work drunk, one of their sales representatives was caught having sex with another associate in their parking lot and they are still working there. Their managment is very disfunctional, all the way from the floor to their child care is all disfunctional. I always hear their employees gossiping about their other associates. Managment there doesn't want to hear these complaints, they just ignore their customers concencerns. Maybe this way someone will listen.

  108. LA Fitness is just another underhanded/unethical gym membership that pays their employees based on how many they can sign up through auto debit of their checking account. Their is NO intention or the slightest care for their members and they have you so entangled in contract that it is costly to get out of it. They prey on idiots who think they are going to be healthier by joining a gym. 110. I went to the Fishers, IN gym for a yoga class only to sit and wait for 15 minutes - no instructor. I met a woman in the sauna who said that the Pilates instructor hadn't showed either (same instructor - Shaling). I went to the front desk to find out if she was coming and both the manager and front desk greeter "had no idea". Really? When she didn't show up for the first class, no one thought to call and find out the issue? Maybe you need to tighten up your management team if they "have no idea" what is happening in their gym.

This is the second time I have showed up for a class in Fishers and had the instructor no show.

Unrelated, the women's showers were disgusting. It looked as if bears had been showering and the floor had garbage on it.

My usual location is Carmel which is clean - classes run on time (in 2+ years of membership only one class has had a no show) and the staff is friendly and knowledgable. Is there any reason that my experience should be different just because the location is different? Lynda P.

  111. LA Fitness purchase Urban Active in Charlotte, NC where I joined in September thru the Silver Sneakers program. My wife also joined, signing a yearly contract for $40 per month. As of today my membership is inactive since LA Fitness does not honor the Silver Sneakers program. I was told in November that I could join at a discounted fee. Now the fee is $29.95 (regular fee). So if I join my wife and I would be paying $70 per month where as a new couple would only be paying $60. Also since LAFitness has taken over the place is not a clean as before. Sorry I ever Joined.

  112. I joined the LA Fitness in North Brunswick, NJ. What a difference between North Brunswick and nearby Piscataway, NJ. Makes no sense why in North Brunswick, the showers are always full of black clumps of female hair near the drains, and several times they have run out of hot water halfway through a shower. AND my biggest gripe is that the pool is COLD, COLD, COLD. No WAY is the corporate standard of 84 degrees. Yes, Piscataway NJ has a nice, non-cloudy, warm pool. The same pool company services both locations, so what gives? Also, the North Brunswick NJ hot tub is often broken, and I've noticed several machines out of order as well. I just don't see these issues in Piscataway. All I can think of is poor management.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Filthy gyms, broken equipment, COLD pool, weak hot tub. The management team DO NOT care. they only want to sell memberships and personal trainers.

For the past 3 weeks the pool has been cold and the showers run out of hot water. They know about it. I tell them every week. North Brunswick is by far the worst. Piscataway, NJ is much better.

  114. Sad to say, I could NOT recommend LA Fitness to anyone. I was a prior Bally Fitness member, before they got bought out by LA Fitness. Bally had its issues with keeping the clubs up to date, and it seemed like it took a long time to get equipment fixed (often a week or more). LA has taken this to new extremes. My club, in Levittown, NY opened about a year ago. It was their "crown jewel" on Long Island. Today, the club is a dump. Bathrooms are filthy and the staff is indifferent. Equipment remains broken for MONTHS at a time, with the paltry excuse that there is only one person to service all the LA clubs on Long Island. Out of 9 stairmaster machines in the club, 6 have been broken for over 3 MONTHS!! Paper towel machines and hand sanitizer machines are usually broken or not filled. The trainers and sales people claim it is not their jobs so it has to wait for the custodial staff, which could be the next day. Weights are all misplaced by a lazy clientele, but the problem compounded by an even lazier staff that sits on their butts all day and does not put the weights back where they belong, or walk the floor to make sure the members do. Complaints fall on deaf ears. LA is real good at offering "member sales" daily, and pushing expensive training, but falls way short on customer service and basic club maintenance. My advice: STAY AWAY!

  115. OMG...I am SO glad I came across this page from LAFitness basic web page! I am stunned at all the issues/problems all over the Country at this gym-chain! We in Cleveland just had UrbanActive gym bought out by LAF...and immediately I and many of my freinds noticed how filthy the place had gotten almost overnight! We do have hot water thank God...but the shower stalls have black mildew going all up the walls and even on the doors. I have asked them many time's to please have somebody use lysol foam (or some similar product) on them daily or at least 3X wk. all to no avail. Management could care less about anyone complaining, and they never ever listen. Another thing that is a major issue is the Class schedual. I don't know about most area, but we love yoga here. I just counted 35 zumba and aerobic type class's per week at our gym...and TWO yoga class's! Really LAFitness?! And the kicker is that yoga class's are packed with 27 to 35 people both nights! And then...what did LAFitness do? lol both yoga class's (Mon/Weds. nights) were at a very late 7:30 AFTER alll the 'important?' class's finish up right? A lot of people kept complaining for earlier class's...so LAFitness now has the same two yoga class's at 8:00 p.m.!! UNreal. Lots of members feel they should be getting rid of a few aerobic/zumba hours and put in at LEAST one yoga class per day...and at a decent hour also! PLEASE if any of you members love yoga..Email..Call..and complain IN your own gym to have LAFitness have 6:00 or 6:30 yoga class's EVERY evening Mon. - Fri.!! It's ridiculous to have so few class's when members WANT them.

  118. Although LA fitness seems to be expanding, it is unfortunate to have so many complaints from many places about the staffs especially sales rep. You can still do your job without being over aggressively rude. I am a member and my friend really wanted to sign up but wanted to get the feel of it first. We asked the front desk for a guest pass. Being very rude and with no manners he simply asked us preliminary questions with an attitude portraying that she wasn't going to sign up. He didn't give her a pass bc she used to be a member 5 years ago. Throughout the whole time he mugged and made rude comments as we were standing on the side conversations about what to do. Turns out he was a sales manager. Sad and frustrating having to deal with the sales rep being the way they are. It's even more disturbing that a sales manager didn't have proper and polite communication with people who want to sign. I guess majority of the males who work there probably has to much testosterone level from working out that being a jerk is in there nature! This manager should get demoted. Driving a sales goal can only be accomplished with politeness and find ways to make customers feel comfortable and positive about signing up, not harassing them. This is LA fitness in Renton Washington Landing

  119. Aggressively rude and overheaded staffs and managers. I used a free trial pass about 5 years ago. I didn't sign up bc the staffs are rude. I've now returned bc I need a convenient location. Sadly they are still the same. Having to deal w a manger I expected someone more level head and polite. This manager should get demoted and take some communication classes before being one. Whom ever hired him made a mistake. I guess their testosterone levels or so high from working their that they become a jerk. If a manager is a jerk, I can see how the male staffs there are too. This is LA from Renton landing Washington.

Now I am a member because it's a convenient location. I've decide to bring my friend in to let her try it because she really wanted to sign up. Unfortunately I had to deal with a manager with horrible rude attitude portraying " if u ain't gonna sign up, get the f*** out". Seriously should get demoted for that type of attitude or atleast some communications class. I guess working there gives rise of testosterone levels making most of them a jerk. Seriously thinking of canceling my recent membership and its only been 2 weeks. Although the equipment and classes are nothing to complain about, it's the quality over quantity. I see a trend about bad staffs and this will definitely bring less profit to the company!

The only reason I stay is because I have a very low rate which one GM promised me, but since he apparently left, have been getting hassle over getting to keep my contracted rate! I had to fight them to renew this one too but I would have taken them to court if they had not relented and renewed me. I have a contract! Not sure why they think they can just disregard that. Even though I paid for my renewal, I am still fighting them to get a copy of my contract! I paid but am told someone else has to print my contract yet "that person" never seems to be available! 126. I have been a member of LA for eleven years. I have witnessed the expansion and adding facilities around my area and since LA was the new hit, they had great instructors, later on another fancy sport facility started to expand and that attracted most of the great instructors that we had due to a better salary and work conditions. We were left to struggle to find a challenging classes and even GOOD instructors.
I live in Georgia, Johns Creek area. My friends and myself used to attend Saturday 8:30 (body works plus abs) used to be Mariam – great instructor, then they went downhill. We switched facility to use the Windward and now we switched again to use the Duluth. I used to take Friday’s kick boxing class with Mindy also at the Johns Creek, let me tell you about Mindy, packed class, high impact, very challenging, awesome instructor full of energy, we loved her. She was replaced with James, 360 degrees switch to a first grade kick boxing class!!!!
Sundays we take the boot camp at the Duluth with Dy (awesome instructor, full of energy and fun), the following class we had Kelley ( another challenging instructor that goes over and beyond our limits, which we like) for body works and she had to move back to Florida and was replaced with James who is an o.k. body works instructor, has not changed his routine since he started (3 weeks ago) not challenging at all… very sad
To get to the bottom line, we need challenging, great instructors and not just an O.K. ones !!!

After about 4-months, they wanted to quit & were told he would have to pay a $1500 cancellation fee. And, his fiancee was added onto his membership, so she would have to pay a $500 cancellation fee. We JUST found out that my son's bank had cancelled his checking account, because LA Fitness debited $250 for another personal trainer fee!!
When he told him he was cancelling, he had to pay a $140 fee right there!!!
We had the bank put a cancellation request so they couldn't STEAL MONEY FROM HIM ANYMORE!!!

I am sure those fees are in the contract (probably on page 68 or somewhere towards the end in fine print!) A VERY tough lesson for a young person working PT (1-2 days a week)!!

Caveat Emptor: LET THE BUYER BEWARE for anyone wanting to join!!

MAKE SURE YOU READ EVERY SENTENCE BEFORE SIGNING!!! TAKE THE CONTRACT HOME, READ IT & BRING IT BACK!! If they don't let you leave there before signing, it's a scam!!

CAVEAT EMPTOR -- LET THE BUYER BEWARE!!!!

** OUR family will remember this incident and NEVER associate with those clowns again!!! :( :(

If someone does join, you do NOT need the overpriced, slick talking, coniving, deceitful personal trainer!! They are only out for your money! Enjoy the Club; but do not get a personal trainer!!!

  130. I was a member at LA Fitness in Hillsboro, OR for about three weeks before a power tripping manager decided to revoke my membership (which I just found out today). I was working out with a long time friend showing him a couple of exercises that seemed to work for me when I was approached by a physical trainer telling me I couldn't "coach/train" him. I asked to speak to a manager because that was the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard considering he's my workout partner. I continued working out and then was approached by the manager, she told me the same thing and then handed me one of the pages from my contract. On the page was a highlighted sentence stating "No member or guest may coach or train other members or guests ( As determined by solely by LA Fitness)"... needless to say I would stay as far away from la fitness as possible!

  131. I was criminally assaulted by another member who threatened to kill me in no uncertain terms - and all I did to "deserve" this was politely ask said person to allow me to use the equipment that he was using as a lounge chair for an extended period of time! LA Fitness wrongfully terminated MY membership - nor did they apologize or compensate me for said member's criminal behavior towards me.

LA Fitness apparently tolerates such boorish behavior at its clubs. This is unacceptable in a civilized society.

Oh.... any they won'r refund any of my membership fees, either.

DO NOT JOIN LA FITNESS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!!!

  132. My membership was wrongfully terminate by a similar power tripping "personal trainer" manager after I was criminally assaulted by another member who refused to let me use a piece of equipment that he was using as a lounge chair for an extended period of time. The offense behavior of the LA Fitness employees came off as acting like I had done something wrong, which, of course, I had not.

LA Fitness has its corporate head up its ass. I am suing them and encourage you to do so as well! Good luck, they suck!

  133. I don't know what is wrong with LA Fitness, but they are certainly lacking in management skills and for sure cleanliness. I go to the La Habra Ca. gym now because they closed the La Mirada Club for reasons unknown and now I have to drive 5 miles further to go work out. The La Habra work out room where they do the classes is always dirty, with hair floating all over and on the floor. It seems as if it is never clean and the mats are falling apart and little black stuff is coming off of them and leaving a mess on the floor. They can not seem to control the heat or the cooling and when you talk to the manager of the club the excuse is that corporate controls everything. I believe if they could keep their gyms clean they may do better with more members and fewer people who quit and also with the free three day passes they need to stop being such asses when someone comes into the gym when they have a pass. Straighten up LA Fitness.

  134. L.A. Fitness needs to clean up their act! If there was a grading system similar to restaurants, the health department would have shut them down long ago. So why isn't there a similar system in place? Their equipment is ALWAYS dirty. All, not some, of the treadmills have obvious sweat stains and they are never clean not have I ever witnessed staff cleaning the equipment. Perhaps their cleaning staff needs to be trained better; or maybe they should hold "try outs" for cleaning crews/persons. I could go on and on with ideas but why should I when the obvious is the obvious - clean up the mess. The facility to which I am a member has gone down hill significantly. It's disgusting and unsanitary.

On another note, I just tried to freezing my husband's membership for two months due to shoulder surgery and the L.A. Corporate representative told me that we would still have to pay $10 a month during the freeze time. Kind of unjust since he won't be using the gym at all and I told her so. She then told me that I would have to go into my facility and provide a doctor's note. Why can't I just fax it to the corporate office where the billing takes place? My take on it is that they want to visibly ensure that I/we are not lying. Time to look into the YMCA.

  135. Since LA Fitness took over the Lynnwood WA. Bally's it has done everything except hit rock bottom. On any given day this gym is out of soap and paper towels by 10AM. How are the employee's washing their hands? And would OSHA be interested in this? For anyone that is dissatisfied make your way over to the BBB and file a complaint.

  136. This is the worst club to deal with, sold a bill of goods and then have been trying to cancel membership and & trainer for two weeks and get no satisfaction, From the Gym or Corp office.. would not advise anyone to sign up with this company
Lake Mary Fla gym has gone down since they took over,,, what a waste of money and time...

  137. I'm a member at the Allen Park facility and I have made many calls and emails about Gibert Aguitar and his professionalism. Noone and I mean employees and customers like him. On facebook he announced the facility will be closed due to power which was a huge problem there. I asked why don't they address the situation. He responded stop crying and if my fiancee and myself don't like it go to another gym. I attached the conversation.
Twice now he has in front of many customers "who say since they haven't done anything with him would go to court" have called the 2 janitors Jennifer and her mom Bitches and screaming it. Phil his boss knows about this and so does Clinton the regional manager. Tonight in front of everyone he started calling Matt the personal training manager a bitch. He is bad for your business and A LOT of customers are tired of it. He doesn't need transferred because then the sexual harassment on the 2 ladies isn't resolved correctly and many people are ready to back them up. No one deserves to be called a bitch over and over but for a man to say this to 2 women and nothing happens is wrong.
The last time it happened was because Gill put a bag of BEER cans in Jennifers room so she through them out because that in not company policy to have beer cans in the building empty or full and he went off on her in front of everyone.
I would like to know how a large company like LA Fitness allows this.

  138. LA Fitness in Yonkers a health hazard.
Beginning of a Saturday spin class - no towels to wipe down bikes, (also none at the end of Friday nights class) informed a LA Personnel of situation and told he would take care of it. 1 hour later after class of 40 spinners are done, no towels. This guy even walked by the class and waved to everyone but never looked to see if towels were installed. Spoke to a "Sales Manager" who didn't even know they had paper towels in spin studio said I had to take it
up with "Operation manager on Mon - Fri 8am- 5am.
I guess as long as they aren't using the equipment they don't care about health hazards that are related to not properly wiping down equipment.

  139. LA Fitness have a very shady personal trainer program. The day I joined I signed up for the free fitness assessment after. After the assessment I signed a personal training contract. When I came for the first session it was a new guy who had no clue what he was doing. The first thing he told me to do was warm up by my self for the first 10 min of the 30 min i payed for. After the first session I would warm up 10 min ahead of time. But the real problems came because they kept switching trainers on me, and every trainer had a habit of canceling sessions. And since I would be charged for each canceled session I tried to reschedule as much as I could but it was hard to do since I never kept a trainer long enough to know there name. I gave all of them my number but they never gave me theirs. Eventual I started looking into how to cancel it and the contract only had three ways. Dieing, filling out a cancellation form and having it delivered to there HQ In California within three days of signing up or moving to an area that dose not have an LA Fitness with In 25 miles. Luckily for me I just I got a job in Montana far away from them so now I'm in the process of canceling it. Its not final yet but I'm but hoping to get some answers today

  140. I signed up for a "Master Trainer" bootcamp that I thought was going to be in the evenings after work (because their initial class was). I love the work-out but after I signed the contract, I found out its for 5:45 a.m. classes. At first I thought I could do it, but it cuts too close to getting ready and leaving for work on time (I live 15 miles from work one way in highway traffic and the gym is another 5 miles in the opposite direction). I asked to change to evening hours and they said I can't because the master trainer (they only have one) only trains in the morning and only in groups. How unfair is that? It's costing me $45 a week and they won't work around me - the paying client!! I will never use their trainer programs again and will probably cancel my membership after 10 years as well. They're just a money pit and the gym is always too packed anyway. I can't get the machines I want by the time I can get there after work and then there are too many teenagers hanging out like its a night club. I've even encounter what looks like 12 year old kids on the machines or hanging around the machines at two different locations. Bad business!

  141. LA Fitness, N Druid Hills, Atlanta, GA is disgusting. Ghetto! Nasty, sticky machines. Thugs hanging out front. Very pregnant thug at check in. I swear to god some thug was sprinting up and down between the machines and no one said a word.

Not safe! Feared I would catch MRSA, too! The pictures in yelp are NOT the same nasty place where I was! More high-pressure salespeople than there are other staff! ...or should I say STAPH!

  143. LA Fitness in Jacksonville on Kernan Blvd is the absolute worst.
They have very poor customer service and treated my guest and I like we did not belong. I printed out a guest pass of which I did not get a chance to use but they said it had expired and I couldn't get another one until 6 months. I wanted to test out the facility because I was thinking about signing up with the family plan. I told them we were only going to be there for about 30 minutes to an hour and then the manager (Chris) told me that I could pay $15.00 to stay. I was also there with a friend of mine who is a member of the gym but after last night, she is thinking about cancelling her membership. At this point, I would never recommend LA Fitness to anyone based on my treatment there and I feel it was a racial issue. I just cannot believe that they would let a potential customer walk out because we could not use our guest passes.
We have been in talks with Joshua about joining the gym but went up there last night and was treated poorly. A customer overheard my issue and told me that they don't treat people like that at the LA Fitness in Orange Park, Fl.
I do want to give praise to Joshua, one of the representatives at the club. He was very helpful and just a very nice gentlemen but the rest of the staff had very poor customer service skills. We were thinking about signing up with him but not sure at this point based on our treatment as potential members.
    Thanks

  144. I hare this place, i'm currently going to an LAF in Orlando Florida, like others have said here i was basically hustled into a personal training contract. I remember the day the guy came over while i was on a machine and said what i was doing was wrong. The next thing i remember is leaving the gym with a one year membership and a monthly due that i am struggling with now. My trainer is horrible, have gone though a few and i feel like i'm not getting anything good from any of them. When i spoke to the head of personal training and told him that i was struggling with the payments for a service that i felt i wasn't getting, he basically said that he didn't have the power to cancel my membership and that i should have thought about not being able to pay for it before i signed the contract. This is horrible, i basically have to decide at the end of the month wether to buy food or pay for this ridiculous gym. Unbelievable.

  145. I am so pissed at L.A. Fitness right now. I've been a member there for 7 years and have worked with the same personal trainer for about 5 years. A few months ago, they finally renovated our club with new equipment, which it desperately needed. Today I find out they have laid off my trainer. Hmmmmm, so they have the money to spend on new equipment, but not keep loyal employees. Nice. When my membership expires in a few months I will look elsewhere. Screw you L.A. Fitness!

  146. I've been a member with LA Fitness in Saugus, MA for about 3 years and it has become a complete embarrassment walking in that place. It is completely dirty with huge bugs running around the treadmills. I has the most ignorant pieces of shit employees ever seen. LA Fitness should be embarrassed for hiring people like this. You are better off hiring people straight out of jail then these monkeys. You can not leave anything valuable in this place because you will get robbed. You have personal trainers walking around like supper hero but are fat and lazy and don't know one thing about lifting or nutrition. Ones a month they do a members appreciation where they get a Dj (the worst idea ever) and give out pizza and salad. People come to the gym to lose fat not gain. The GM or who is running that gym is a moron. I hope someone up higher is reading this and does something because that place is going down hill fast. Why the hell do we have to hand our card to be scanned? I'm I dumb and can't scan my own card. NO!! I am not but these people are working there. NO Eduction at all!!! GET no employes and MANAGEMENT!!!

    Your member!!!

  147. Don't join LA fitness. This was supposed to be a corporate deal. I joined the LA fitness at a new Panola location. I used my perk with my daughter and we both joined. From that day forward whenever I visit, there is a women, any women at the door that denies me entry for one reason or another. Once I took a guest and was denied entry and had to search on line for 45 minutes, then finally the women says " oh I'll do it then". Finally, I get charge on my bank account that LA fitness has taken liberty to deduct my payments. This was never discussed and I have not been because I knew I needed to pay, just was not in town, well they took it upon themselves. The greeters are rude and the femanine men are just as argumentative.

  148. LA Fitness is garbage, I had quit this over rated den of dolts and joined Lifestyles only to be suck back in when LA Fitness bought them out. All the old Lifestyles employees left with in 2 months time and now we have the same caliper of dolts working at LA Fitness Countryside FL as you still do at the Palm Harbor FL Gym. If you have other gyms in your area and you want to join one, than check them out first, you'll hate LA Fitness.

  149. Hello LA Fitness. I luv your clubs...been a member for over a year. BUT, am not happy with the practice of cancelling scheduled classes without warning. I belong to the Woodbury Heights Club in New Jersey (Mantua). On 3 separate occasions, I have driven all the way there only to find a sign posted on the front door saying that the class I wanted to take was cancelled. Not acceptable. Not nice. An inconvenience to your members. Last Saturday's 4:30 p.m. class was cancelled. I understand that the instructor called out at 9:00 a.m. That is plenty of time to find a substitute instructor. You need to have plenty of substitute instructors to avoid these situations in the future. Not happy when planning a Saturday around a class, making sure I am there, only to find no class. Boo hiss. Thank you!

  150. All,

My husband and I recently got into the same situation with the LA Fitness here in Pasadena, MD. We are military members and apparently, that does not count for anything with these people. I've been reading through most comments and it makes me sad to know that there are so many complaints towards them and that I didn't even know about until now! Like most complaints here, we were lied to, disrespected, and DISCRIMINATED against by these employees! Three complaints have been made, which means we have given them three chances to make it up and instead we got turned away with the terms of the contract thrown in our faces. Unfortunately, LA Fitness is notorious for bad customer service as well as lies. We even told them that a formal complaint will be filed with the Corporate Office as well as to the Better Business Bureau, but they didn't care. Is there anything ALL OF US can do to make our complaints heard or atleast paid attention to? It doesn't seem like the leadership at LA Fitness care whether or not their customers are being mistreated, unless that's how they run their business. Please contact me at tiatran87@yahoo.com!!!!

    Sincerely,
    Tiana

  152. I live in Covina, CA. I attend the LA
Fitness in West Covina on Azusa (when I FEEL like going). Today I decided to go after my son encouraged me to go. He dosen't have membership, so we called and they informed us to get a 3 day pass on line, which we did. When we arrived there, my son had to wait 15 minutes to speak with a salesman. Immediately he asked about joining. My son mentioned he already had a gym membership elsewhere, and just wanted to check out the facility and get me to the gym. The salesman assumed my son would be my trainer and said he couldn't be allowed to come in because they have their own personal trainers that I could get assistance from. (who in the heck asked for a trainer??? My son just wanted to get me to the gym and check out the place. I don't think the salesman should be trying to get people signed up to join a gym, when they haven't even been able to use the 3 days first. My son called corporate when he got home. The lady was pleasant and apologized and stated she would approve him the next time we decided to go, we just needed to call her first so she can contact Azusa facility. I think LA fitness needs to train their staff to be a little more professional if they're trying to bring in business. I will not have good things to say to anyone about LA fitness in the near future. JUST BEWARE! I MIGHT JUST GO TO 24HR FITNESS NOW, THEY HAVE BETTER HOURS ANYWAY.
